Have had a very expensive outing to get my flu jab.
Gave me the opportunity/excuse to visit the charity shops in tremendously upmarket area and miraculously in the first shop, Scope, that I stepped into there was a rolled up exercise mat with a carrying strap for £3. I then spotted a cake cutting wire on the side shelves and snapped that up for another £3.
Then I found a lovely, large pillowcase with drawn thread work on its Oxford border made of beautifully soft white cotton for £7 and two mauve Land's End Therma Loft fleece throws for £6 apiece in the hospice shop.
Then across the road in Oxfam I found a pretty melamine tray in my favourite rectangular half size for 99p.
On my way home I called in to my favourite BHF shop just to look and pounced on a wooden book rest, £1.50, which will hold cookbooks open for me and an IKEA silicon ice tray, £1,which will make little bottle shaped ice cubes.
I got to the hanging rails hoping to find another pair of flattering trousers and instead discovered that a local retailer had just made a corporate donation of discontinued stock and so I now possess several pairs of pretty exercise leggings which are all new and cost £3 per pair. I shall be able to go to the gym or out for a walk/run in a different outfit every day of the week at this rate and all for about a tenth of what I expected to have to pay.8 -

Floss said:@Dolly84 do you live in Saddleworth? I was brought up there but we left mid-70s for Cheshire.
No, I live fairly close, just outside of Brighouse so Saddleworth is just a quick jaunt down the motorway.

Ooooooh, used to go to a nice restaurant in Brighouse....Brook’s! Probably long gone now.
The clearance rail in the Salvation Army shop turned up trumps again. Found a pair of black, wool trousers by Brax for £2. Lovely quality but a bit on the big side tho. Will be good for when I need to wear my thermal long johns. Today in the community shop, also on a clearance rail, I got an M & S, black, sleeveless shifty dress for £2.25. Then in the same shop, now don’t laugh, I got a sparkly, gem encrusted headband/tiara. Still in the box from Accessorize and originally priced at £20...I paid £1.50. I’m planning on going all ‘pawsh’ over Chrimbo and making an effort to dress up for dinner each day, (well it’ll give the chazza frocks an airing if nowt else!!8 -

I popped into my favourite BHF shop this afternoon but there was nothing that I needed or wanted so I came away empty handed thinking that my spending spree is over which is probably a good thing.
I rather like the idea of dressing for dinner and might make more of an effort myself in the coming days. I could certainly wear my jewellery rather than storing it in boxes in drawers for instance.
Off to the kitchen to bake now, have a lovely evening all, goldfinches."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

I bought a hand-painted large cream jug for £14 on eBay from British Red Cross and also on eBay, a green Sylvac vase from a hospice shop, for £8. Not sure whether eBay is more expensive than an actual shop.
If you're looking for books, Amazon can be cheaper than the Oxfam website. A book I wanted on Provence, was 14.99 on Oxfam website but just 3.53 with free postage, for a new copy on Amazon.7
