Going to have a last tour of the charity shops in Ripon today as I’ve been staying with my ‘bubble’ friend for the weekend. Yesterday I found a nice pair of navy Lands End ankle grazer trousers in the BHF shop in Thirsk - appear brand new tho no tags and beautiful quality, priced at £4.99.
As for what wouldn’t I buy....rather like other posters - underwear, socks, tights, swimwear, make up - unless it’s in the original, unopened packaging.3 -
A trip to the Royal Borough of Kidder today!
St Richard’s Hospice shop:
Per Una cable jumper £4
Debenhams nightie £2
Forest Dog Rescue:
Joe Brown t shirt £2.95
BNWT Next t shirt £2.95 (for sons)4 -
And I’d wear anything from a charity shop except worn pants, bras and shoes.5

itgirlinuk said:Can I ask everyone clothing related what you would NOT buy from a charity shop and what you wouldn't? Hypothetically of course as lockdown is looming. Me and my friend are arguing about the kind of things people wouldn't buy used or new from a charity shop. I thought why not ask you all to put the argument to bed. Thanks. Send me a message if you want to.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
It was a gallop around the charity shops of Ripon today trying to dodge the heavy rain. Thought I was going to be coming home empty handed but in the last chazza, (Cancer Research), I could not resist a Hobbs dress in an amethyst shade priced at £10. Was a bit worried about not being able to try it on as they will, of course, be closing for at least a month so a return would be a problem. Anyhoo it fits perfectly but goodness knows when I will get the chance to wear it now as it is deffo a pawsh, going out frock.5

I'd buy underwear if it was BNWT.Oxfam sometimes have M&S rejects.I'd buy shoes from a charity shop - but only if they are in great condition and only if they are shoes that I'd buy from a shoe shop - IYSWIM.I've bought Clarks, Moda in Pelle and an almost new pair of Doc Marts from charity shops in the past.I too look after my feet - after 2 operations in 2 years, I want to and need to - and a pair of shoes that are good quality that have maybe been worn once is - imo - a good buy.I currently have a 100% merino wool teal stole in my freezer.BNWT from Air Ambulance, priced at £2.00, website (can't remember the name but is a UK company) is £45.00 in the sale from £60.00.Their stoles are twice as wide as their normal scarves, apparently. Not sure if it will be mine or gifted to a friend.6

I’d buy everything apart from underwear and swimwear Love the sound of your teal stole Pollycat; sounds lovely and an absolute bargain. Can I ask about the Doc Marts please. I’ve never seen any in any charity shops and wondered what you paid for them please? No worries if you can’t remember. Just thought I’d be informed in the unlikely event of me coming across any

I think I'm in panic buying mode now at the thought of the charity shops closing for at least a month. Today....a b/n Ted Baker eye mask for 50p from the Brain Tumour shop and yet another dress, this time from the big Sue Ryder shop....Phase Eight BNWT and originally priced at £120...mine for £10. Fitted, cap sleeves and in a rather loud hot pink/burgundy/navy print with 3 pink beaded flowers at the front of the neck.5

I went to my local fave CS today as I thought they might be just closing up tomorrow (they aren't, so I will be back!). Got a single induction hob for £5, complete with instructions etc. and a new Slazenger polo shirt for OH and a cookbook I have been after. Spent £7 in total so well pleased. I will miss the weekly contact with the ladies in there but I may see them when passing as they are still accepting donations.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
