Did you feel that the charity shops in Harrogate were rather pricy? I've been loads of times but don't think I've ever actually bought anything.7 -
Just found a few bits and pieces this week, all from the community shop....an amethyst coloured beaded necklace for 50p, a box of 5 hand made, (supposedly!), season's greetings cards also 50p, an Autograph BNWT shirt in stone with a fine gold and lilac check on the £1 rail - I was tempted tp purchase this when it was originally selling in this chazza at £4.25. Finally today from the Sue Ryder shop I got a pair of M & S brown leather gloves for £2.50 - b/n as still fastened together.7

Recently I have been donating to, rather than buying from!
That's the result of saving the planet! ie bringing home split bin bag dumped by the bottle bank- and it had sat there for 2 weeks in all weathers. Why do folk do it? Presumably because the clothes bank was full. One of the items- brand new with label from local independent shop- Frank Walder Brenda trousers- price £99. Sadly had to remove tag to wash them. A very nice Waitrose 9-10yo sized fluffy dressing gown- went to a happy neighbour. Most of the other stuff went for rag weight.
I've bought:
a reasonable Elvi Tee shirt £1 (wish they had washed it inside out!!) - part of my new lockdown outfit
Evans wide-leg evening trousers (£1)
bag of assorted craft bits £1- turned out to be 10 necklaces
A few knitting patterns @50p or 20p
a nice cardi-coat in grey- New look- 2 sizes too small (supposedly) free from a skip! part of the new lockdown outfit too!!
(Just to explain that the lockdown shorts and trousers
which were years old and patched so many times, finally went to the rag bag in the sky!!:- Hospice rag weight!)
I had better had a quick trip round the shops on Tuesday. They seem to be closed Mondays, these days

Went to a large Sue Ryder shop yesterday and nearly bought some Fitflop sandals for £3 then decided I probably have enough shoes of various kinds and they would only be going into storage until next year. However I did buy two Mason Cash items which are colourful and called Abstract! I can only describe them as big ramekins. Looked them up as I am pretty sure they are brand new and discovered they are meant to be .... dog bowls!!! Paid £2 each which if they hadn't been Mason Cash I wouldn't have done.

Brief trip today got me a full, Disney, still in packet, maybe not ever worn, age 5-7 Jedi costume for DS (he's just four but top half usually requires an age 5 now). £3.50.
I also found multiple long sleeved tops for both DS and DD, her in genreal but him especially for wearing under the millions of t-shirts he has to get some use out of them through the winter. Total of £10 for about eight items between the local hospice boutique CS and the Scope discount branch next door to it.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

Can I ask everyone clothing related what you would NOT buy from a charity shop and what you wouldn't? Hypothetically of course as lockdown is looming. Me and my friend are arguing about the kind of things people wouldn't buy used or new from a charity shop. I thought why not ask you all to put the argument to bed. Thanks. Send me a message if you want to.The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:2

I wouldn't buy underwear unless it was brand new with labels but other than that, can't think of anything I wouldn't buy7
-
@itgirlinuk interesting question - I'd buy bra if new, socks, tights if new in packet and so on but wouldn't buy any kind of knickers, spanx or suspender belt.
Having thought about it I'm not even sure why some things and not others but being squeamish seems to be the answer to that!
ETA: You might take into account that people making their own garments may purchase items so that they can obtain various clasps etc. cheaply which is a consideration now that we are all going to be broke forevermore.6 -
Not shoes unless they are new. Not underwear or socks unless new and sealed. No swimming costumes. Would be iffy about pyjamas unless new - basically anything that doesn’t have another layer between me and my nethers - I know you can wash them, but still doesn’t appeal.
Otherwise, I’ve had most things one time or another, even gifts for people. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5
