I think anything goes at funerals nowadays. The last one I attended had some people in jeans, leggings and T-shirt’s.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.6 -

Seriously I've been rather horrified at what some people have considered appropriate to wear and can only assume that the service has not registered as an "occasion" with them in the same way that it has with me.
I don't mean times when those attending the remembrance have been specifically asked to wear bright colours and so on; I mean that at some services quite a lot of mourners give the impression they just put on the first thing that came to hand that morning.
Anyway I have decided that I'll have a scout around an area I've never tried the charity shops in tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on and what their returns policy is too. Onwards and upwards to all, goldfinches.7 -

Don't know when I'll ever wear a suit again ... but suits my size don't come up very often.
Is black pinstripe OK for non-family funerals?

Went for my flu jab today so couldn't resist toddling just a little further to the big CRUK clearance warehouse. First find was a BHS summer dress, dark rusty pink, unusual textured fabric, fitted into the waist with a swirly skirt. BNWT and £35 price tag...CRUK price £3. Then found a M & S pure cashmere sweater in a lovely shade of apricot. Cropped length and with a big cowl collar, also £3. Yes, I did examine every centimetre for moth holes/moths/eggs/grubs etc! If i missed anything I hope a hefty blast with the steamer will sort!7

I think this year, funeral wear will be taken seriously as it’ll be gruesomely obvious if you haven’t made the effort. (You heard my lamentations, and my wry pleasure to hear his flatmates were preparing As Hard as we used to for Scout parades...)
Saw a delightful meme that said “a well tailored suit to women is the equivalent of lingerie to men” (I approximate). The chap wearing turned out to be some film star but the suit was absolutely phwoar, enticing you to appreciate the fabric textures, the starch, the seams, the lining, the button by button removal [i think I should stop there.]
Wholly right that the Gentleman Caller should uphold sartorial standards & be appreciated for it! Also, a slightly loosened tie can achieve louche in a way no crumpled garment can - something about on the edge of deniability.9 -

Men certainly look drop dead gorgeous in a well fitted suit. I start fancying my own husband all over again when he wears one lol
As for funerals, its something I found to be completely dreadful, when I realised I have two complete funeral outfits - winter and summer
I keep forgetting that chasing the bum off 60, Im more likely to go to funerals ( Im only 20 inside) and not only that, I have friends with whom we share funeral attire
However Ive attended a lot of youngsters funerals, and it breaks my heart seeing their friends in suits. I think to myself these are just babies, they shouldn't know what accepted funeral attire is. I much rather see the youngsters in their every day wear7 -
My husband wears a suit every day and I love to see him so nicely dressed.
Had a hospital appointment in large market town so popped into 2 charity shops. The first was ridiculously priced but the second was worth stopping at. Had been searching for glass storage jars and picked up 3 as well as some vintage clothing. I have started only to take a set amount of money with me so I have to stick to my budget.5 -
Envious of those with Husbands that wear suits!
i married a suit wearer but then the director genera, changed and brought in laid back culture and it was perceived to be fuddy duddy old school to Wear a tie to work, never mind a suit.He went with that for some years and latterly at least started wearing a jacket and tie again.
now hes retired I do miss seeing him looking smart.
the Janet and John books of my early school years have a lot to answer for!
Mother always had a frock on and father always a suit and tie!
Anyhow, im popping into Barnardos this morning for a browse.
no trying on, full refunds and not queueing so not too bad at all.Norn Iron Club member 4735 -
