Didn’t actually buy anything but went for an unexpected ramble around the chazzers of Eastbourne on Sunday. Yes Sunday. At least 11 or so were open. Several are almost opposite the train station & round the corner going right. Then walk the other way towards the defunct Debenhams & there are several more to be found. One end was Oxfam & Mind & the other was Wras ( wildlife) . Hope that helps if my directions don’t make sense . The Wras one has a vintage room upstairs although there is a giddy line between vintage & just plain old tat...:rotfl:

Plus there is the Mad Catters cafe where you can cuddle cats & a zero waste shop. Sadly closed when we found it. Hopefully does the “ scoop your own cornflakes “ type stuff to avoid waste. Will investigate another day.

More than £5 and a tie-on brown luggage label is vintage.

Is the term "bric-a-brac" used anywhere other than charity shops?

Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman, Jr., in The Decoration of Houses (1897), distinguished three gradations of quality in such "household ornaments": bric-à-brac, bibelots (trinkets) and objets d'art. (Wikipedia)

And I though I was cynical. Love it!
  • on a cheap day out to Morecambe (northern rail 10p tickets) today, my dad who I was with was complaining he had forgotten his scarf which he had brought last week in Primark & it was blowing a gale, so I left him drinking coffee whilst I had a look around the chazza shops, went in I think it was wildwood where everything was £1, they had a basket with scarfs in but no prices so asked how much 50p, they had a nice navy one that felt nice, label said it was a James Alexander 100% baby alpaca, so thought OK bit dear compared to other stuff bt still cheap scarf that would keep dad warm for the day. I also picked him up a M&S sleeve cricket style jumper & a m&s shirt for a pound each.

So when I met back up with dad did a quick google which suggested that the scarf was on sale for £35 reduced from £45, nice scarf but not £35 nice, at this point told dad the scarf was only on loan.

The shop had lots of good brands amongst the mens wear, did not look that much at ladieswear as it was sort by colour (pet hate) I dont go into a chazza with a colour in mind, & as a larger lady I tend to look at the size first before making & decisions

I hope it got your dad thinking that he can get better things for his money than Primark (sorry I just have a palpable hate for the place). I agree on the organising by colour, you miss things when everything is in the same shades.

Can I ask what you do to make them Vegan please?

As mentioned above, its the soy wax.
I do soy wax, jojoba oil and pine resin, with some essential oils mixed in too for extra antimicrobial benefit.

Not charity shop related but the church very local to me has their monthly jumble sale and I think I will try and pop round to that.
Seems only far since I'm donating 15 bags to charity on Friday (not the same place though :rotfl:)

Had my weekly jaunt to Otley today. Came home with a fine pashmina stylee scarf in off white, 99p in the St Gemma's Hospice shop and a BNWT dressing gown in an amethyst shade of floofy, fleecy, supersoftness, priced at £3.99, makers name is Rose Garden Fashions (?)
  • I got a fabulous mid thigh length, fine knit Fat Face waterfall cardigan in oxfam for £3.99 today. Thrilled with it as it is a lovely grey and cream marl that will be great in spring, cool summer days and next autumn.

Just a mini saunterette through the community shop today and they had a big basket of b/n boxed hankies....the sort that used to be given to grannies for Chrimbo but never got used! Anyhoo they had a pack of six white linen hankies with heavy lace corners made in Ireland priced at 75p. So pretty I couldn't resist as I do like to have a pawsh lace hanky, like a laydee, in my 'good' handbags :D
