Just to report that I have feedback from a friend who opened her 'birthday box' this week- it's the £5 challenge.
Probably reported on here what I had bought but suffice it to say the M& Co cotton blouse is a hit and going on a cruise (£1) and the purple micro fibre coat (£1) seems to have barely been off her back! - it's so cosy and bright and has been much admired. Surprising that you don't actully have to spend a fortune to please folk!!:j

Years ago I saw a meme of art materials & the comment - “get your kids into art & they’ll never have the money for drugs”.
Youngest has a talent so husband hunts to supply/equip him.
Astonishing what people buy & give up on, or never even unpack!0 -
my niece, age 9, shows a talent so am always looking out for her.
I bought her a charcoal set from Liddly at xmas for about 7 pounds.
She is one of 4..........they all loved it.........AKA : Bala La Boo & Bala Baloo

dfv - you do very well with the art supplies, we are not arty in that way so I never look for them. I use Fairy soap bars for stain removal and they are fab, I bought a pack of 2 years ago and am still on the first bar but I've now found that they are no longer made. Why do we seem to be moving away from the lower waste effective products to more bottles of liquid at a time when we all know the damage it's doing?
miro - I am on the look out for new hankies as we are moving away from tissues.
Katiehound - glad to hear your gifts went down well. I have no problem giving or receiving second hand gifts.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

:T
Never really thought of it before but I suppose it is more environmentally friendly :j Tissues make my nose sore and the balm(y) ones fall to bits. Have spent hours picking shredded bits of tissue off washing after a rogue tissue gets left in a pocket. Also, there is nothing like keeping a large clean mens hanky in your bag for a whole variety of purposes. (I really am turning into my grandmother)

Earlier this week, as I was dropping off a bag of donations, I found two items for toddler DGS on the clothes rail at my local CS.
One was a dino onesie that needed mending, the other was a rain jacket with a label that said "dirty pocket" - ink scribbles etc, but fine for garden play I thought.
At the till, after I had paid, the two assistants looked at each other and then started grumbling about how "cheap" they were, and how the shop shouldn't bother selling things at those prices.
I'm a grumpy old woman, so I asked loudly "Were the prices wrong? Do you want me to pay more?"
What a surprise, they didn't.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.2
