Magpie - have you tried relaxed skinny jeans? Well done on your finds, I have North Face boots and they are fab, had them for years and have walked 100's of miles in them, hope your jacket gives you many years of service too.

I hung my new pictures yesterday and they look great. I will be reducing my browsing of charity shops as I have a lot of jobs to do in the house so time and money will be spent there, I will be looking for some household things and a few other bits but no clothes unless it is an unbelievable find.

  • We’ve had a very fraught struggle persuading her it’s ok to say “no flowers” & go for donations etc instead.

Do people really argue against the parents' wishes when it comes to funeral arrangements of a child? Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised by anything anymore.

I think some of the older generation have set ideas about how things should be done.
And I'd guess a funeral of a grandson is something they hold strong views on.

Well done to DFV for 'persuading' rather than laying the law down.

We got round it at DDs funeral by having a bunch of orange tulips on her coffin ( her favourite flowers and what she had for her wedding bouquet) and requesting donations as she has specified .
She would have told me off ,but one lot seemed right .and funerals are for the living.

Probably easier for us as no surviving grandparents, but some elderly aunts were a little unhappy.
    Agree it’s a probably a generational thing

    Wishing you continued strength

Quick suggestion for you, Dig : have you thought of calling any theatrical costumiers in your neck of the woods? Here we have oxondramawardrobe.co.uk where quite literally thousands of period costumes of all sizes are hired out (to the public, as well as to theatres) for around £35 a time.

Trip to Otley this afty.....found a pair of as new, smart black jeans by "Pure' in the BHF shop £2.99. Currently selling at £99 on their website, (love this make but who on earth pays that for a pair of jeans??).

Then in the weird 20p shop I got a pure silk, black & white Fenn Wright Manson dress for.... er um... 20p. Similar style to this but different colour and pattern of fabric
    .

Label says 'dry clean only' but for 20p it is currently whizzing through the washer...:D

Thing is, on a Lot of points, I agree with her. Happily a cherished grandson was able to coax her into tolerating certain newfangled ways. She's unwillingly prepared to be coaxed that (at least) 14 trees is worth a bare coffin but she's used to seeing them covered in flowers as a gesture of love & respect & so the lad had to try to update that software without getting slung out of the Will. Happily her neighbours won't see it, but her views & my agreement therewith is still not going to get me out of long black skirts.

Genius idea! I will get on the phone forthwith and see if they have Anything in size 30 (not consistently, but I need to be able to breathe for the hymns). Some websites make you feel like a homunculius of dough clutched & squished....

After a day which included seeing the GP for antibiotics & wasting 6 hours searching online for "something appropriate", I am closer to sheer frustrated tears than I've been since I was learning to walk.

As the heroic horsewoman dream is being shoved firmly along towards the fantasy end of the spectrum, I recall someone wanting to find someone who’d died of something not infectious that they could buy up a ready curated wardrobe.

Me, I’m *almost* ready to prowl with a syringe of rohypnol.
Just with my luck, I’d still end up looking more like Grendel’s mother than a grieving one.

ETA in case I haven’t mentioned it, I love what antibiotics do to life expectancy, just they make me feel horrendous as they work.

    Oh dear DfV!!

Have you had a squiz on FleaBay? Bit pricy some of it and, of course, there may be a time constraint.... I was amazed at how much there was but I guess what with re-enactment societies and steampunk it is now sought after stuff.

Also...are you anywhere near Blackburn? Came across this shop, (may be just online), they seem to have some fabulous stuff in their EBay & online store anyhoo:-

Flea bay is brilliant for the (ahem) standard sizes, and inspirational for dreams.
Blackburn is near local and I must make time to visit!
Just still need to go gently around mother in law. Husband opined our news would kill her - it didn’t, but too many shocks, related, too close - none of my chaps alive or dead would approve....

For all the cheering on though, huge thanks!
