Two metres of vintage barkcloth-type fabric for £2. Underwhelmed? So is DH, but similar stuff is around £15 -20 online in the fancy retro sewing shops

I found some of that kind of fabric in a chazza shop a few years ago.....kept it for ages as I couldn't decide what to do with it. Eventually I used it to make half a dozen 'bag for life' sort of thingies and I used them as gift bags for friends at Christmas. Went down very well - I still see a couple in use even now!! What might you use your fabric for??

I paid £9 today for a pure cotton, lined shift style dress in white embroidery anglaise from Jaegar, a brand I love.
Got it home and in it look like an asylum escapee or someone in a hospital gown awaiting surgery......

My CS itch finally got the better of me yesterday, once I'd caught up with everyone's lovely finds on here! :D

    An Oxfam yielded the following:
    - A pair of knotted cufflinks for 99p - not the biggest of bargains, but I had a need and this was convenient;
    - A Fat Face woodland fox felting kit for £2.99 - always wanted to try felting;
    - A brand new (I think) Uniqlo checked linen shirt for £3.99 - I'm a big Uniqlo fan and have been waiting for these shirts to come down in the sale (usually to £8-9, but sometimes as low as £5), and this was even cheaper than that, so very happy with that; and (with the best saved to last)
    - An unused, in-box (with some minor damage to box) Smythson A6 size wedding planner for all of £1.99!! I looked it up online and it costs £45 - blimey!!

My OH was a tad confused by that last one! :rotfl: No idea why, though - we've been engaged for 4.5 years, so he must have known it would happen one day! :D

Don't you hate it when that happens?! You see something that you imagine will look incredible and then it really doesn't...

Hopefully you can take it back / sell it / gift it to someone.

I have got to hit the charity shops

Just over a week until I start my new job - and I need more 'smart/casual' office style clothes to wear

In my old role, it was uniform mainly, which I lived in.

Had planned to go charity shopping today, but OMG how hot it is?

There are two small towns very close to me, which have four or five charity shops in close vicinity, and I am going to hit them tomorrow as I believe it will be cooler

Will report back with HOPEFULLY the items I have found x

Luxor4t, I'm not underwhelmed at all!
Any thoughts as to what you might do with the fabric yet?
Barkcloth is very cool right now amongst the mid century fans.

It looks like barkcloth in pattern/design, but is thinner and very slightly ribbed - maybe meant for curtains? - so I need to work out what the fibre content is.
If it is as cotton rich as I believe it to be it will be yelling to be made into something quilt-y for a baby.
It is pink roses over mid blue and white 2" squares and screaming for broiderie anglais, ribbons and a pop of something stronger. It'll come to me.....!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

If it's cotton could you dye it....might that improve matters?

    (Sorry for laughing!)

Congrats on all the fantastic bargains over the past couple of weeks everyone!
I got lucky again today. Only had time to drop into Banardo's but I did really well.

£1 white Hollister vest top with a neon pink floral embroidery. Perfect if we have any more days like today.
£3 black Oasis work blouse with a tie back and champagne floral embroidery on the chest.
£3 white Nine by Savannah Miller peasant blouse with a lace yoke and frilly sleeves.
And the piece de resistance, a black 3/4 sleeve Boden dress with a sheer over panel and black polka dots. It has a shin length skirt with tiers, and it is so so gorgeous. An absolute steal at £4.50! I need an occasion to wear these pretty dresses now.

Well I ended up braving the heat today, despite saying I wasn't going to

I went Charity shopping to a lovely area that has five shops in close vicinity

I had hopes that I might be able to kit myself out for my new job - but ended up buying a couple of bits that are not for work

so this is what I got:-

1 x black and white dress (Next)
1 x dress - very slightly boho style ok for work (Monsoon)
1 x dungaree dress (not for work, but couldn't resist (George)
1 x pair of Jeans with lovely detailing on the pockets (Per Una)
1 x Lacy black top (Next)
1 x multi coloured boho style wrap/cardi (Wallis)
1 x lovely little lightweight black jumper/top (Shapely figures?)
1 x slightly goth looking jumper/top - with ribbon detailing (Firetrap)
1 x black top with zips on shoulders (f&f) - this is my absolute fave

I am really pleased with my bits and pieces and all for £22.50

I think this is fantastic.... and from three of the shops, there were another two within a very short walk, but I couldn't bear being hot any more and felt I had done, and spent, enough for one day - especially as I am not earning until my new jobs starts

I do love charity shops. Most of the clothes I own are second hand

Anyway, just thought I would update, love to all x
