DigforVictory - thank you for the 'heads-up' on that other thread being 'accidentally' resurrected ! Teach me to read 'dates on threads' properly ;)!

Re-posting what I put on that one -

I was working in my local Charity Shop yesterday when one of my customers was trying on a beautiful, calf-length, edge-to-edge, cream/brown/black knitted cardigan. I hadn't even spotted it hanging up. she was very disappointed with how it looked on her and put it back again. Another of our Staff said that she'd tried it on, but it was w-a-y too long on her - and demonstrated by putting it on ........................ she was right - it was almost touching the floor. As I'm tall, they all told ME to try it on - wow! I was so surprised how good it looked on me - that I bought it straight away :j. Apparently it's been there for nearly a week and not sold, due to its length. Bargain at £3!

I didn't realise the returns policies were so bad.

I bought some stuff for my husband, so couldn't try it on, ended up with a £19 credit note for a month - not happy. Hospice shop. There was nothing I wanted in the shop at the time.

I bought a dress for myself, half term, with autistic son so couldn't try it on, ended up with a £10 to exchange only for seven days - not happy. Hospice shop. There was nothing I wanted in the shop at the time.

British Heart Foundation good full refund no problem.

I will have to make sure in future that I really want something when I buy from these shops with no room for exchange.
  • At our Hospice CS we don't get refunds at all but they will swop for something else. Problem being though that if you can't see anything else you prefer you have to keep the unwanted item until you do. May mean carting it back and forth several times.
All that clutter used to be money

To be fair, shops don't have to offer refunds or exchanges on 'change of mind' purchases.
The fact that M&S, Next, Primark etc do is over and above what the law says.

Because they know they cannot afford to alienate their customers. This is one thing that commercial industry is wise to: chazzers don't have quite the same skin in the game.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

TBH, I wouldn't expect charity shops to offer refunds or exchanges.
I view buying from a charity as a totally different experience to nipping into M&S.
I buy from charity shops on the basis that I'll either keep the item, pass it on to my sister or redonate.
In my Air Ambulance £1.00 shop I've got to the stage where I don't even bother trying things on.
If they fit when I get home, that's fine.
If they don't fit, somebody other than me benefits.

Same here, I buy and if it's not right for whatever reason, duplicate item for example, can always redonate
