I would definitely have a word KC, even if it's to make them aware that food was left outside. It could be what Beanie suggested above and it was put out purposely. But then people need to know that it's spare and free for taking otherwise it could possibly sit there all night.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2003

What is the problem with open office KC? You may want to try libre office. The google suite (docs, sheets, etc) is surprisingly full featured too.3

basically it's a ploy by Microsoft to get more money out of me. I object to this, of course 🤣 My spaceflight group guy took an hour looking at my laptop (he used to work in IT, and does voluntary work at the library on it) couldn't make it happen so that I could use a full-featured zoom app on my laptop. And I refuse to pay Microsoft for something so unconnected to them, something which I used to get for free.
Erm, I just experimented. I *can* write documents in Open Office, I can even save them in odt or Word format. But when I open them again, I can't change them. And I'm quite finicky, I like to proof-read 🤣 And I don't like being locked out of documents I've written. So the only way I can *alter* documents is to upload them onto One Drive.
I just had a look at Libre Office in Microsoft Store - that certainly fits the bill. It costs just over £3 - I know I'm making a rod for my own back here, but I'm incensed that I pay for something that used to be free at point of "sale"I haven't tried downloading it direct yet, I'm not that brave
last year I was getting all sorts of dire warnings from my Microsoft software about downloading anything not from their store, including invalidating my laptop security features.
Are they making that up? Do you know a safe way to do it? And if I buy it, who gets the money? I'm really sticking on Microsoft making more money from me?Now I've unpacked it, I feel like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, and making my life much more difficult than it needs to be

It might be a little mountain out of a molehill in money terms, but I totally get it from a principles point of view.
The files being read only sounds weird. Is this any help? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/why-did-my-file-open-read-only-3ab4b792-da50-4b38-8628-14c64e1f1d15
You can get LO for free, but if you choose not to at least the payment does go to the right place, here it is from the horses mouth - https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-from-microsoft-and-mac-app-stores/ I'm willing to bet MS will take a cut, but they do provide the store infrastructure so I suppose that might be fair.
I'd personally get it from LO's own site and maybe consider a small one time donation after using for a while. If you have security concerns please don't take this as advice, I don't know enough to be offering any! I trust LO/TDF, it's just the MS warnings causing me to hesitate, which I suppose is what MS wants...
If it's a file permission issue it would probably apply across all software packages, so probably worth looking into that first.
You can upload existing word documents to a free Google account, modify them as much as you like directly in your web browser, then download the updated versions if needed (or just keep it all in the cloud). Costs nothing to try that option 🙂 Sounds like you're already doing this via one drive though, so maybe of no benefit.3 -
I really appreciate the feedback, Squirrel, thank you. I'll check out those links, but I've been out for hours at my spaceflight group, and I'm shattered, so I'm very aware I might misread whatever I look at that's of importance. But in general, yes, its the MS warnings that spook me, LO themselves sound absolutely fine.
I *do* have 13 gigs of storage space used on google - I can't actually find the documentswhich is very silly, but of such everyday nonsense are our lives made

Update on the dental saga: it wasn't a bit of tooth that fell off, it was part of a crown! It's been smoothed over now, so it feels a lot more normal 🦷. Couple of X rays to check things out. The first looked like an alien had got involved 👽 - turned out that was an air bubble between my cheek and my gum.
Emergency appointment plus drill work on the existing crown today; check up next week; hygiene appointment in August: £300! I'm giving in and joining Denplan.2023: the year I get to buy a car3
