Thank you!  I'm sure today will be quieter from *now* - but I had a few moments this morning 🙃 because of the rearrangement, I was facing 3 days of 3 stressful appointments - driving lesson, spaceflight group (talkative woman that *I* introduced is the stressor), and then the dental appointment.  I couldn't do it, and the easiest to rearrange was the driving lesson - 48 hours notice required.  So I cancelled, and then arranged *two* for the next week, so I'm keeping up.  But BSM charged me anyway 🙄 so I had to contact the instructor *again*.  Bless him, he's sorted it, and the next one is booked for Monday 3 July.  I'll book another one on the Thursday or Friday of that same week, and be back to normal.

Monday 26th, I have a zoom talk booked, and I *will* manage to listen to a bit of it - climate change adaptations - but I'm off to the seaside for the day with my sister 🌞 nice temperature, lovely long beach that we know well, car park, very nice toilets which even have hot water in the sinks 😁

So this weekend needs to be a bit domestic - since I'm going to be putting some washing on the line, which will scare the foxes, I can go out there to pull up some annual weeds that are about to set seed.  Exciting 🙄 but necessary 😁

I just had a little local walk at 9pm or so, out in the cool air, and walked past my local "food bank" - it's just a garden shed, with doors along the wide side, and shelved, next door to a community cafe run by a church.  The shed is closed for the night, of course.  But stacked outside the community cafe were what looked an olio-er's haul - a couple of dozen loaves of bred, Waitrose brown sliced, tiger bread sliced from M&S, all sorts.  I hardly ever walk on that side of the road, because the footfall is quite high, but it was deserted tonight, later than I usually walk.

My question (there is a question, honest): is it acceptable for people like me to take a loaf of bread from this place?  I'd freeze it, mostly for use in bread and butter puddings, to ber honest.  I don't *need*, not at all - but especially on these hot nights, I can well imagine that it might be unuseable by tomorrow morning, when people are up and about again.  Better for me to use it than for it to be thrown away, the whole raison d'etre of supermarket collections.  But its a church foodbank.  I know they don't run checks on neediness, but it just sits oddly with me.

It definitely should not have been left there like that KC - that is against all rules. Was it in big sacks/green crates? Or was it in smaller bags, in which case it might have been that it was bagged up for individual collectors and that was the easy collection point. Collections can take place quite late because evening collections aren’t collected from the store until 8.30 and use by stuff (which I seriously hope wasn’t in that haul) has to be collected by midnight. So it might be that it had been dropped off and someone was on their way to pick it up/take it in at food bank too.

I’m afraid I’d say don’t take it in any case - without agreement from the Olioer it is a no-go. But perhaps worth registering if there is someone nearby - you could always request then - no contact collections are definitely a thing and you don’t have to ‘need’ to collect from Olio. Absolutely awful if it will all go to waste. Feel free to PM me details of location etc. and it can be reported if it really looks like it’s been dumped.

Thanks madvix - it was in a couple of green crates - there were a couple of others too, with wilting veg.

Good to know that you don't take stuff like that in any case - and I remember you mentioning how late collections are that you take part in.  I haven't had a cup of coffee yet 👀 so I'll pop out there later and look at how things are.  If there's no one there, I'll just keep an eye on things for a few days, I won't report straight away, I don't know how regular it is, how much of an issue it is.

I just downloaded the Olio app again :) there's an olio-er 10 minutes walk from me, she was offering pastries and rolls to be collected until 10.30 last night, so it's unlikely to be her that dumped it, I was walking out at just after 9pm.  I'll keep an eye on things.

    Thanks for the feedback!

And you a volunteer yourself, beanie :)

Well, it's good to know, actually.  I confess, I've given myself a day off anything remotely like work - in fact, the dishwasher's still finishing, and I only put it on because I have no cutlery left 🤣  A lot of today has been binge-watching Staged S3, which has been really meta stuff, and it's also some of the funniest, I was laughing out loud.  The eldest child of each of them also had small parts in one episode each, which was sweet to see.

Re: bread etc, I would probably email the food bank explaining what you saw and asking if it would be ok to help yourself if you came across it again.  I love e-mail for this kind of thing - no embarrassment on either side if they say no.

Thanks for that, Ramouth!  I like email for that kind of thing too - but I honestly don't know who runs it, that church or the Tressell Trust, or if it's a separate identity altogether.  I'm here all tomorrow, so maybe I'll pop along there and ask.  If I was in need, I'd be embarrassed, even though I know there's no reason to be.  But since I'm okay, I'm perfectly willing to be told "no" - or yes you can, as the case may be.  There'll be no trail, nothing problematic.

Today was different though!  My sister and I drove to a long shingle beach (*miles* long) about an hour from my house, and walked a couple of miles there and back.  Sister paddled, I didn't 😁 We thought we'd be struggling in the sun, but we were actually struggling in a very strong wind - which the Met Office says wasn't strong at all 🤣  Shattered in a good way, I loved it.

And yesterday was a bit different too - as I can't use Open Office any more, and still can't use Office software (I won't pay for what used to be free, that's my trouble!) the only way to write documents is using One Drive, so I was uploading merrily the little biographies I've written for the genealogy - boring but useful work.  Also gives another level of redundancy to my backups.  I'll faff around with that some more, maybe.
