Of course, now everything is focussed on getting ready, though there's a few things here to catch up on. More later.2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -

You're so right, apple. Holiday prep here, really: got my case out and laid it on the desk
got the easy stuff in there like the washbag and covid precautions, camera and charger, blah blah. Texted sister re oatcakes and eggs for me, since I don't have a delivery lined up before we go away. Dishwasher. Some research on places to go (there's loads! good grief!). And 45 mins in the garden, digging up weeds, relocating tiny grape hyacinth bulbs - I'm trying to plant the primroses I got from sister, though I've since realised that's not the right place for them. Ah well, it needed doing anyway. Crashed after that, thank heavens for a sparkling episode of HIGNFY.

Thank you both! That's very kind - the financial ability to do stuff like this feels like luck - I never planned for my retirement the way people on here do, and though I've always lived frugally, I was also lucky that I fell into self employment that was pretty well paid. The budget I did the other day was well within my state pension, but big expenditures come out of savings, which still stretch, just about tip the scales at £100k. So although I'm annoyed with myself for not focussing on a car, I really feel I have something of the best of both worlds.2023: the year I get to buy a car9
