Thanks Apple! It's definitely partly my fault, sadly I think - it just gets stuck on a page and doesn't go anywhere :( I'm meeting up with a friend tomorrow, and I may come home with a new laptop, if its at all possible ...

Oh Karma! I feel your pain! The HMRC website is dire - DH always gets so cross when trying to do the verify thing to log on (I was set up before that came it so don't have to log in that way).

I hope you have a better day today!

Thanks madvix! I've just had an email apologising from HMRC, so apparenty it wasn't *all* my fault - it said "We have been working hard to restore the self-serve credential reset function. Customers can now reset their User Id and password online." So we'll see!

I'm just about to go try again - if it doesn't work after about half an hour, I'll give up and literally buy a new laptop. I'll also have to buy a new computer mouse, I broke this one by letting it crash to the floor once too often :o

So, it didn't work. Instead of running out into the street screaming, I phoned the helpline. Nearly ran out screaming when they answered, but eventually spoke to someone who understood what I was saying, and ... I logged on to the real account! And they've used my old User ID to create it (back in 2012? I've been using it since the 1990s ... hey ho). So I've done all the faffy bits of admin, and now I need to go offline to work out the French expenses and income. Life is too short for this carp every single year - it will change next year, I know, because of Brexit. I shall make hay while the sun shines.

ETA - thanks beanie! Just seen your post. Its good so far :)

I've done naff all since then, spent the afternoon with a friend who lives a good long rail journey away, but was in my town on business for her trade union :D

Since that was right by our Sainsbo, I finally found a few Christmas bargains - tres posh gluten free cranberry and orange mince pies, 10p for two: I got the last four boxes :o; plus a gluten free carrot cake £1.19, thats a good enough bargain for me :D: 25% off family size live yogurt pots; Christmas-spiced porridge sachets, 37p for 8 - that'll do nicely on the caravan holidays. Plus gods own frozen broccoli and cauli mix :D

And now ... French accounts. The adding up is the easy part, inputting into hmrc is slightly more fraught, but the really hard part, the logging on, is done, woo hoo.
