  • Yes, make sure you buy one where the blade bit unscrews to be washed. With some of the really cheap ones the cable bit doesn't detach so you can only wash the blade under the tap or very carefully in a bowl whilst avoiding getting the plug wet.

Inspired by your posts I checked on my two nearest U3A branches but they are both pretty small and the groups and activities aren't very interesting and don't appeal. I'm really disappointed, I was looking forward to giving my social life a bit of a boost:(

Thanks yes, that whole thing is a bit of a mystery to me :p

What a shame! Don't give up though: horticultural society, WI, meetup.com (free to join online), the local council walking groups, Ramblers, there's Egyptology in my county - honestly, there's all sorts. Beanie does voluntary work for the local foodbank, vol work is amazing for building relationships, and if I had the energy, I'd certainly be doing some.

We had a nice little walk to the community farm - the pig was perfecting her wallow, using her nose like you think they do but never see :j:j:j apparently her piglets are due on Thursday, so I've got some great photo opportunities in the next few months :)

Starting to work on the diary at the moment ... there's so much that needs to be written in/ crossed off :).

I have a Braun stick blender. It came with all sorts of attachments that I have never used. I use it all the time and it's great. I recently bought a Sainsbugs own brand version for £7 that I will use when I make soap, which I intend doing a bit more of. I haven't used the Sainsbugs one but I did just stick Braun stick into Faceache Marketplace search and there are several on there in varying degrees of sophistication for under £20... just saying
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2226.88/£3000 or 74.23% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread

    I really envy you:)

I already do voluntary work with 2 different groups, dementia sufferers and rescued animals. I love both, tiring and heartbreaking in many ways but so worthwhile. What I'm looking for is something where I can meet likeminded people, learn new things and have some fun.

Thanks SL, good to know. I don't want to use Faceache, though - I'd have to travel to whoever's selling, and I couldn't use my Amazon vouchers :D so Amazon purchase is brought to my door for "free" (i.e. all those SB points!). Braun does seem to be the one, I'll do that tomorrow.

Erm, I don't *do* all that stuff, Scrimpess! I have chronic fatigue, and I'm continually cancelling days out, meetings and holidays :(:(:( I guarantee you that with two sets of voluntary work, you do a **bleep** lot more than me :rotfl: Likeminded people are hugely important though! Have you used meetup? What are your interests?

Morning! I woke up to an actual proper amount of rain today, so I'll do some actual proper digging for weed roots :) later on.

There are financial admin things that need to be done:
    - my energy deal expired at the end of August, I need to see to that.
Update: expires end August, I'm not fixing it yet. I had the patience to look at the detail of some of the deals though, thats good :)
    - £21 sitting in Pinecone, hurray. Do I withdraw that to Amazon as usual, or to JL? I do like JL - they're safe financially, I think I might go there.
    - order the Braun stick blender.
Update: done. Braun multiquick Vario MW5000, no accompanying gadgets, and business end definitely detaches.
    - send some cash from current account to savings account, its only there to fulfil conditions.
    Update: done.

Need to spray some insect killer around the porch today: the electrical work wasn't spider proofed properly :o and it's created a bleeping highway. I also need to prepare the food for tomorrow's trip :)

    I agree:T

I love kitchen gadgets but have had to curtail my spending on them as I've tried to revamp my whole approach to money and minimalism. Failing on both fronts, it's still a work in progress:o. The Lakeland catalogues lead me to rack and ruin.

Having said that, my addiction was temporarily satisfied when a friend gave me a spiralizer recently:j. She's a gadget fan too and someone gifted her a really swish one. The one she gave me is her original one but it had had very little use. It's one of those gadgets of the type that I think it would be nice to have but definitely don't need. Apart from courgettes I haven't used it for anything else yet. Must go online to find some ideas as there's no instructions with it:(

Courgettes are why I would like a spiralizer.
