Beanie - its Sainsbo, I only use them because they keep giving me sturdy vouchers like that. The spend isn't usually so high - its usually £40 - £60, but on a one off, I don't mind. It makes them cheaper than Asda - and Asda never seem to have a month's supply of pasta, which is a real pain, as I need another shop then. I don't honestly know why they keep giving me the discount - I did one shop without one recently, and then went to Asda, I think their spending algorithm must pick up on stuff like that.

I'm also baffled by why Sainsbury' keep emailing these good voucher codes to me. I'm awaiting a delivery from them today using a £12 off £60 code which came totally out of the blue in an email headed 'We've missed you...'. I can understand them wanting to encourage former shoppers back (I use Morrisons as well as Sainsbury's depending on vouchers;)) but they'd 'missed' me just 5 days after my last order from them:rotfl: using a sizeable voucher off a smaller trolley total. The day/time slot I usually get from Sainsbury's is only 50p too:j. I use Asda too sometimes but, sadly, they NEVER send me any vouchers:(.

Hi Scrimpess, thats interesting to know they send them to you too. It's very useful! I've never done a shop of this size, so I usually use the 50p slots too, a very attractive use of money, that :) Without the voucher, though, Sainsbo would be way more expensive than Asda.

Interestingly, I've found a Lidl I didn't know existed, near a suburban railway station thats the next stop along from my town. Though google maps shows it as a building site, so ... hmmm :rotfl: and there's no other shops to windowshop at. I might have a look next month.

Today: a bit of boringness: finishing up the shopping tidy, and carrying on with the weeding tidy. I'm away for a total of ten days in October, with associated packing/unpacking days, I really want the garden stuff done before then.

I decided to get my act together a little bit in relation to these 78rpm records that I've had hanging around since we sold my mum's house. I think they must have belonged to my grandparents ... Sophie Tucker, Fanny Brice, Maurice Chevalier, and the world famous Reginald Dixon (a Blackpool organist, with the success of Strictly, there might well be a market!) I ended up on this site https://www.popsike.com/index.php which is about *achieved* sales - some of them seem to be quite valuable. They're not likely to go for £1 each, which is what I sold my own LPs for 15 years ago :rotfl:

I can totally understand why you haven't got round to selling the records yet. Finding the best place to sell and knowing what their true worth is can be a nightmare. I've procrastinated far too long over some of my possessions which I really have no use for but can't seem to take finding an outlet for them all that seriously. I think reading your post has given me a much-needed kick up the rear:T

I have some old LPs , although not quite of the Sophie Tucker era:(. I have a very old Beatles LP (first pressing, original, earliest Parlophone label) that is rumoured to be worth thousands:eek:. I want to sell it but am too scared in case I get ripped off. I'm not naïve (sp?) enough to think mine is really worth that eye-watering amount but it's surely quite valuable and while it's still pristine I'd like to realise some cash on it;). I also have a pristine White Album by them which I also have great hopes for. I'll definitely take a look at the website you linked to.

Someone recommended I check the Discogs website:

    http://www.discogs.com

Not sure if they have values for the 'old' 78s which I imagine are the hard shellac type. Might be worth your having a look though. I agree with your hunch that there is an optimum time to sell, such as the popularity of Strictly.....

    Good luck:beer:

Thanks Scrimpess :) I'd only just realised they might be worth something, to be honest - I was expecting to get a couple of quid each in a nearby city, but I think it might be more.

I understand that fear of getting ripped off! An attitude of my sister's has always impressed me, though it was about financial products: getting a good deal is more important than getting the *best* deal. If you hang on for the final quarter per cent, you possibly earn less, because of the extra time taken in searching, products changing, all of that. So if you do your due diligence - a local auction house, maybe one in London, couple of specialist record shops - maybe you could have got 5% more, but how much of your time did it take? On a miniature scale, it's why I'm slowly backing away from Swagbucks :rotfl:

But seriously, dip your toe in - do a round of research and then leave it for a bit, maybe, get used to the way people quote figures, what they're looking for, all of that. The new vocabulary I've suddenly had to pay attention to is mindboggling! Good luck to you too!

Thank you. That's very sound advice of your sister's:T. I know you always talk such good sense anyway:)

I know you did well when you sold those books recently at a specialist auction. I'm sure a specialist sale for rare records would be the place to try, rather than just a 'general' sale where they often sell lots of cheap household clearance stuff. There's a specialist record shop in a nearby town where they buy and sell unusual stuff, especially vintage. I was a bit dubious when I was in there once though because someone came in with a couple of LPs and the shop owner gave him a valuation without taking much of a look at them and without referring to any lists or books. The records looked really unusual and, to my mind anyway, rare so I jut got the impression that the 'expert' was just giving a generic price and would sell them at a vast profit in the future:(. Maybe just me being cynical. The prospective seller, who didn't accept the offer, was very disappointed at the offer price and said he'd done some research online and believed they were worth a lot more than he was offered, even with a big mark-up for the shop owner. Experiences like that tend to feed my paranoia about being cheated:o

I thought of you when there was all this recent talk in the press and TV about everyone's need for a Grab Bag. I know you're a big believer in Preparedness.

Good points! There was a nice vibe in my record shop ... and the city itself is big on vinyl ... with you mentioning auctions, though, I just popped back to the website for the auctioneer we used for the book, and they *do* sell records. I might well do an email with photos for them and the record shop, see who says what.

I am, its true, starting from when my fatigue was at its worst, and sitting up to place an online supermarket order tired me out. You want plenty of food in when you feel that bad ... as for grab bags, absolutely! House fire, being taken ill, rellie being taken ill (happened to me), water main break, flooding, armed standoff locally (also happened to me), Whaley Bridge type evac, unexploded bomb - the Scouts had it right in terms of Be Prepared :rotfl:

    I have no clue.

The potential to need them is in that post of mine immediately above your question, beanie: "House fire, being taken ill, rellie being taken ill (happened to me), water main break, flooding, armed standoff locally (also happened to me), Whaley Bridge type evac, unexploded bomb". If you disagree, thats okay too :)
