Afternoon all! Isn't it amazing how something as simple as a fried egg sarnie is so delicious :p No regrets, though I won't buy any more glutenny bread, I really must learn to make sourdough from gluten free flours.

Very odd morning: I woke at 4.30, looked at my phone for an hour or so, and by 6am I decided to try to sleep a bit more. Woke up at 9.30!!! Woo hoo! I haven't done a thing except have my breakfast :o I must really have needed that recovery time.

For the rest of the day - I'm just concerned to stay under cover and keep drinking, actually - my niece, for example, is a commuter that took the advice to stay home (she can work from home) as both the trains she normally gets were cancelled. Buckled rail lines is a bit shocking, actually. Doesn't affect me, of course, its just a straw in the wind about how things are. So today, I'll be catching up on admin - electoral roll tick, cheque to the new isa, maybe look at the new regular savers, SB rolling around in the background.

Hope everyone's staying as cool as can be.

I did remarkably little yesterday, not work, not fun stuff - just electoral roll, isa cheque, recycling collection and SB. Put my fan on all night, woke up this morning to thunder and damp pavements - I think it may rain again, actually, which I'd be glad of for the garden's sake.

Today feels more like I'm in the land of the living, which is always nice :D and I need to do more physically today, so that I have a chance of sleeping, so:

    - SB in the background.

    - dishwasher on.

    - check the ongoing financial admin: TalkTalk debits, return of the unused boxes of tiles to Wickes and another refund, and there's the Regular Savers to investigate and apply for, plus another little thing I'm juggling with. That would include unpacking the fly swatters, which have finally arrived :D

    - might be able to do a bit of work outside - fill up the green bin, maybe even get the mints planted. I've decided to plant them all (4, of 2 different kinds!) in a line near the shaded boundary, getting my own plants there, going good and strong, would be great. Might not be able to do that today, heaven knows I keep on discovering unknown brambles

Yes. £5 Amazon voucher ordered, shenanigans done, I'll do very little else on that today.

    - dishwasher on.
    Yep.

Regular Savers investigated - too soon to move my current account, so its 3% p.a. with Virgin and a local BS, both branch accounts only. I can do them both on one train journey, but it needs planning.
Internet order of special jewellery (ssshhhhh!), I've written the cheque, its all ready to post.
    Flyswatters are unpacked :D

Just some time in the garden this afternoon, digging a few sneaky couch grass roots that won't go away, making ready for the mint, which I definitely didn't get to plant :( Still, its raining again right now, which makes me happy :):):) and nearly all the rubbish I'd picked is in the green bin.

But oh my word, the nettles :eek::eek:
I was pulling the tops of the stalks off, because they're full of seed. Too late! The seed coming off them was like dust, there was tons of it. The seeds are obviously an internet topic in their own right, and another year I'll be working on them - not this year, I just need them gone!

Thanks earthie! I was a bit shocked, I have to say! And the seedpods look like seeds, but they can't be. Anyway - my neighbour's garden is literally *full* of nettles, so it will always be an ongoing issue, I'll get some crop next year, leaves or seeds or both.

Clearing the little storage/former bbq addendum to the patio has been interesting - if I keep it clear, not only of my trees but also next door's overbearing hedging plants, the mints could be planted there, as soon as there's soil and not tree roots. And keeping everything cut back makes a lovely, shady little arbour for afternoons and evenings.

Today, I was heading out to another local NT garden, but its **raining**, a lot, and not forecast to finish till well after I'd need to be out. That's okay, I can go tomorrow. Today though, that means indoor stuff for a little while, then popping out to get some frozen veg.

  • I know you do a lot of work in your garden, but it does sound like a lovely space.
I hope you do enjoy it as well as navvy in it.

That's a really good point :o and thats what this little "arbour" area is about. It's shaded after about 11am, which is best for me as my skin is so problematic. Erm, I also need to wash down the patio chairs, lots of algae on them :o:o:o being out there is so lovely, you're right. I enjoy watching the bees go crazy after some of the plants too :)

Bunnies & baby birds playing in the wet garden this morning :D So sweet - they love this cooler weather.

Well even though the menagerie loves this rainy weather - I don't!

So I g00gled "Why is it always raining in England" and got...

The prevailing warm moist westerly winds mean that the west of the UK is more likely to receive rainfall from Atlantic weather systems - in the form of frontal rainfall. These weather systems usually move from west to east across the UK and as they do so the amount of rainfall they deposit reduces.
