Happy days indeed.
A relative of mine is retired and describes his amazing holidays as 'adventure before dementia' he's looking to travel the world while he can, the. Look at the photos when he can't. I want to be like him!
So, go for that cruise a 54 nights does seem very long, but why not? I'm guessing cruises are quite good for you health wise as you get rest days while you are sailing?Outstanding mortgage: £23,181 (December 19)

Wow, 54 days! I'm too much of a homebody to cope with that, but if you fancy it, go for it. Could your sister fly to meet the boat (whoops, probably correct term is 'ship') for a shorter portion (if you and she were happy with that)? Or is that not a done thing? I know nothing about cruises.... DH feels sea sick if he so much as looks at a boat, so unlikely to be going on one!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

So today, I was going to a local NT place, but the weather is more suitable tomorrow (cooler, less likelihood of rain etc) so I'll do it that way round. So that means carrying on with the jobs I'm doing: cleaning, tidying, gardening, networth calculations, bits of all of them (can't do one to exclusion - as well as the physical stuff being tiring, *anything* is boring if its all thats done
).

Botheration! And here we see the problems of not keeping up with stuff. First World problems, indeed, but since I *live* in the first world, they concern me. I have a tiny isa with Nationwide, which is "earning" the princely ROI of 0.5% p.a. And I'm too late to transfer in any other ISAs - I'd want to transfer in the Virgin money too, which is earning 0.5% less than the good Coventry one (excuse the confusing naming of names). So I need to open a new isa, for as high a rate as possible of course, which will allow transfers in. Okay, thinking is done.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Botheration indeed. Those kind of minor vexations are, well, vexatious
excellent news on the rosemary though! :j you've reminded me I have a couple of small plants that I propagated from the Bush at our old house so I'd really rather not lose them - they need getting out of the pot and into the ground pronto (I've been putting it off because I don't know where to put them
which is ridiculous given how much space we have
:rotfl: Just need to get them in the ground somewhere - I can always move them later after all!

Thanks Goldie! It's 54 nights
it's practically round the world
I have a suspicion it might be too much for my sister, but there are 30 day things that would do very nicely, thank you
Like I said, when we were away for 49 nights, it went very quickly, and I didn't think about home too much, even though I love my home. We've also been away for 35 nights, and that was great too.
However...…. I'm not sure I'd go away for such long cruises again. I loved it, but I think we've got it out of our systems now. We did toy with the idea of a cruise that P & O do, from Southampton and back, which goes all the way round South America. It would be an amazing opportunity to see lots of new places, but it was 65 nights away from home. I felt that it would be too long away, and we preferred to spend the money on the bathroom and cloak room
I think 25 - 30 nights would be the max I would do now.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Good points, Goldie. I've done two months away, but it was a long time ago, the winter of 1991 - I went hostelling around Greece and Turkey. Before the Americans launched their attack on Iraq (the first Gulf War) local people were very scared that Saddam would come further towards them - once it began, that was felt safer for where I was, but I still had the whole isolation thing (after a certain point, there were no other foreigners at all). Nowadays, with a kindle, a phone, and a way of writing (which keeps me sane!) I'd probably be okay on a cruise ship. Its not something I'd do twice though
My gut says we're not doing the long one, we'll talk about it more when she gets back from a trip up north in 10 days time.
Meanwhile, I've repotted my fennel (not doing well) and potted on my new bay plant - I hope I haven't damaged the roots of that one, we'll see.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Lots to ponder cruise wise
Hope you enjoy your NT visit if you go tomorrow.
