Depends I guess whether you still wash up anything? - we do - some things aren't dishwasher-able and some things I just prefer to wash up by hand. Plus there's when you have a sink of water for cleaning sides etc. I also prep some veg (peel potatoes, carrots etc) over the sink (I dump a pot in it to catch peelings which then go to compost or food waste, depending on what I'm doing with them at that time (I compost less in frosty weather))
I *do* have another (actually bigger) window with just worktop under it - but I don't ever stand and prep or whatever at that one - creature of habit!

I rinse stuff before I put it in the dw, actually, hmmm. And I do the same as you for peeling stuff - at least, I did last night, when I peeled (eyed
) spuds for the first time in a million years. Plus, my kitchen being the size/shape it is, there'd be a lot of unnecessary expense in moving the sink, it would be very difficult. Not impossible, just not something to be done without a really good reason. Great question to ask, though, so I can think through these issues. I think I'd really like greent's situation, where I have a window over *both* :rotfl:

How about using recycled plastic for your fence? I'm not sure where this sits with your values, I know personally I would have an internal war over it. On the one hand its recycled, creates/increases the market for recycled products (which according to our local waste centre that I visited is a major factor on the type and how much is recycled and the cost/profit from such products) on the other hand it is plastic when all said and done and when it comes to the end of its life what then? Not sure if I explained myself very well there.

Re the fence:- they come & do it once & it is guaranteed for 20 years, so should last 30. No painting/staining required so no visits to DIY stores, no brushes, no car trips involved. And last, but by no means least important, no medication required!0

I'm not sure about the costings - if its twice the price of wood, for instance, it would be a no-go. But yes, its something to explore, actually, rather than a gut level "no"Re the fence:- they come & do it once & it is guaranteed for 20 years, so should last 30. Tell me more about the price of plastic fencing compared to wood. I'm more than happy to sit on the side of it utilising recylced plastic and therefore being put to good use!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Wayfair, of all people, do some stuff, but it looks very bitty - exactly the sort of thing that sheds microplastic very easily and ends up in the water supply
I can't see anything at B&Q.
Can't see anything at Screwfix.
I wondered if CAT might sell something appropriate, but there's nothing on their website.
I need to do lots of research, obviously - a life of 30 years (10 years after guarantee ends!) is very attractiveas replacing it would be somebody else's problem
Never simple, is it!
Anyway. There's a ton of research to do, I obviously need to set up a spreadsheet or something. But I do want that gate restored to the front - for one thing, it goes with the other stuff thats out there.
I'm definitely going to set up a plan for next year ... so, not Uzbekistan with my sister, but what would *I* like to do? It's years since I've thought about that question in terms of travel ... I can't do *lots*, but I can certainly get somewhere nice and have a low-key exploration of what's around, just like I used to.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Re: no medication. My sister used to have 40 wooden fence panels that, because of living on a fairly exposed hill, needed re-doing every year. She used to do them all over a couple of days & land up needing serious meds for her back. The most she does now is a hose down occasionally after it has been particularly dry & windy then wet. Yes they did cost more than twice the wooden ones but she hasn't regreted for a moment getting them. Because she had so many the manufacturers (I think in Yorks) fitted them. But around here I know there is a co called Cocklestorm who fit them.0

It's interesting, isn't it, beanie? badmemory, thanks for expanding your reference.
I've been working on the hedging plants (again). And I think I've reached a kind of balance point with the laurel  there's more that needs doing, but its good enough for now, while I bring the other hedges, and then the weeding  up to speed.
So this afternoon I also started cutting back the box, which is about four feet over the perimeter for quite away along its length. And now that I have hedge cutters, even manual ones, it goes at the speed of light
