I managed to get to my event, slightly late, and an unfortunate situation with the front door, but hey ho. The environment group of my U3A - a retired power company guy has analysed his own utility consumption (along with temperature outside and a million other things) for 20 years, and tried to draw conclusions. One of the most interesting things was his Rainwater Harvesting System - not only used for the garden and the toilets, but even the washing machine. Splendiferous!

Nothing much in Waitrose, I decided I was too hungry even to stop and buy some onions :rotfl: so I came home and stuffed my face.

I'm going to analyse spends, see what I do with the money, part of UFM I suppose.

    Spends
3.50 at U3A group, 6 months of room rental. Bargain.
I don't drink the tea or coffee at these events - yes, its only 30p, but its actively unpleasant, thats why I don't bother :rotfl:

Not sure how much I'm going to do today, it's *really* cold out there, so its another hot drink and a bit of faffing around for me.

KC - I distinctly remember my Gran taking her own flask and teabags to various group outings, as she 'could not abide' by the dishwater that masqueraded as tea :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - come to think of it she also took her own biscuits as she firmly believed that 'they' did not store biscuits in an air-tight tin once opened and so were served stale :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - that was more than 1/2 my life-time ago - funny what leaves an indelible impression on young ones - all that to say...

I know you have a flask, teabags & assorted cookie collection you could make avail of...

...and feel free to quote my Gran in the most hoity-toity voice you can muster:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Fantastic, RT :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I love your Gran :kisses3:

My water bottle just doesn't cut it in comparison, does it :rotfl:

I've started on the Net Worth listing ... I really, really need to smarten things up! About a thousand years ago, for instance, I had a cahoot account. It's so long since I used it, its gone dormant :o with £240 in it. Still, I'm on my way, and I've just paid a maintenance bill for the French property, E157. I might take some time this evening to sort some papers out for the tax declaration - that might help on getting more account information so I can finish this stuff.

  • Another one here who is intrigued by the Rainwater Harvesting System. Brilliant idea:T. We are so profligate with water in this country. Every time I see those heartbreaking TV ads of tiny girls walking miles every day to a filthy water source to fetch water for the family I feel ashamed that in this country we happily flush our toilets with drinking-quality water:eek:

Did you get your card reader sorted, KC? When I went online to transfer my savings to a new account at another bank in order to keep them safe for final payments of debts and earn more interest than my own bank is offering there was a message that a card reader was necessary:eek:. I was given one when I opened my current bank account about 5 years ago but had never used it and couldn't even remember where I'd put it. I eventually found it and was dreading a rigmarole with passwords and maybe PINs which I couldn't recall ever having but it was simplicity itself to use:j. All set up and money transferred within 10 minutes which pleased me no end as the alternative would have been a trip to my nearest branch which is about 18 miles away:(. I've never even set foot in there, I do everything online.

Laughing at the conversations about the tea :D My mum bought me a travel mug for Christmas and I intend to make good use of it :D

Love the idea of rainwater harvesting :j We are in an excellent position to be able to do it here (there's a lot of rain for one thing :rotfl: ) Both loos are downstairs too so that I imagine makes things easier, and we have plenty of outside space for tanks. And you've reminded me I must sort out rainwater harvesting to use in the garden too!

Good progress on your net worth stuff KC :money:

Ooh, I bought one a while back, from a cs, for £1.25 :)

Excellent! Water butts could be the the easy option for the garden, of course, but the toilets and the washing machine, thats different. You're right on both counts about the outside space for the tank - it was huge, 3.5 something? tonnes of water? Don't know right now, actually. Having both toilets downstairs means less pumping - he had a sort of header tank in the attic, yours wouldn't need to be as high, or maybe just straight from the storage tank? There was a lot of extra pipework inside the house (though that might be just him and his private obsession with measuring :rotfl:).
Good progress on your net worth stuff KC :money:
Thanks! I know I'm not going to open the post *and* go through this year's paperwork like I said I would ... what to do? No idea :p but I'll try to do one. Stopping now for a bit.

Rainwater harvesting will definitely be on the list for our long-term home (although the current one is increasingly feeling 'long-term').

I struggle with tea in a thermos - it tastes horrible. I can see the key is to take the water and tea bag and milk separately, but then you have to have something to put the milk in.... hmm, I wonder how small a thermos you can buy (anything else is liable to leak in my experience, but I'm open to suggestions!).... sorry for digressing on your thread Karma!

...Therm0s actually have sets for just this! - A large flask for the boiling water & a very petite flask for either hot or cold milk! I bought mine several years ago at l@keland in the after xmas sale. The set got a lot of use back in the days when my commute was shorter & a packed lunch regularly made it in to work with me!...

Agree with you that "Kept Tea" is definitely gross! - it really needs to be brewed fresh!

PS - KC how's the paperwork pile going? I'm avoiding mine at the moment (which is downstairs on the sofa) by actually sitting at my desk (upstairs) & using a 20 minute timer to eat some frogs!
