Aw, thank you all! Yes, it was great - one of them is a professional singer, who gave us an impromptu little jazz fest - so I have another diary date now, for a concert she's headlining late this year. This year. 2019!! Woot!
Right, a sprint around the boards, then definitely, definitely, plotting for 2019.
xxx2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
A lot of this is about building on 2018, which has been a real turning point in my life. I really, really want to catch the 2019 growing season, I still haven't been able to catch the new season properly, but I think I've got a real shot this year.
Practical
1. Finish pruning hedges.
2. Prepare the garden for planting: weeding and digging.
3. Building work in the house: replastering, rewiring, RSJ installed.
4. New kitchen.
5. Repairs to the crap garden gate and door that were installed 14 months ago. Repairs to the fencing and the gate to the street as well.
Making connections
1. Keep on with the connections I've made that I like.
2. Use the diary I've bought - I've put in the regular basics and any one-offs I already know about. Make the most of all this!
3. Travel. Time to establish what I'd like to do, rather than doing anything that comes along that I feel I can cope with. Its a long time since I've been able to pay attention to my likes and wants on travel - I'm really looking forward to this one.
4. New connections: my diary feels quite full already for me, and it's important to keep going with older connections (like my friend in Margate) and still be open to making new ones, even with older acquaintances (there's some people in Bedfordshire I'd love to meet up again, we're still in contact so it would be doable).
5. A combination of (4) and (5) is to travel for some of the genealogy research. Ireland, France, Scotland, Northamptonshire and Yorkshire
Finances
1. Find out my net worth - I've no idea why I'm finding this so difficult to pay attention to, but I really need to do it.
2. Sort utilities - I'll check the gas and elec, though I think there's very minimal savings there. The main one has to be my mobile bill, which should go down to around £7.50. Will look at broadband after that.
3. Sort out where to put this probate money.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks for sharing your plotting, Karma. I really like your making connections heading - it's so important but often we don't prioritise it. I'm going to add that to my happiness section if that's ok?Choose kind0

For people who were wondering if their subscription to the Frugalwoods challenge had gone through alright, I've just received my first challenge emial:j
I've just started my own diary although I can't imagine it attracting the crowds as my life is so mundane compared to other people's:o. Please drop in sometime and see me, I'd hate to be all alone just talking to myself:rotfl:

Good luck with this! I need to do Germany. My maternal great grandfather apparantly lied (as far as we can tell anyway) to my father & my mother didn't know & actually looked the part (ie Jewish). He told my father he was a german jew who had left germany late 1890s & lived with an aunt in Norfolk. Total BS. Although he spoke very gutterally/germanic. His mother was german & married an englishman from Norfolk - where he and his elder brother & younger sister were born, but she was not jewish.
They warn you before you start that it can be a rollercoaster ride & that a lot of what you have had handed down is untrue. I suspect that knowing what I do the Jewish part came as he found himself with a German type name in a country that was going to war with germany & can completely understand but it doesn't half muddy the waters.
His mother came from a well known family in germany who mostly went to America & we suspect that it was on the route across the UK, Norfolk - Liverpool, that she met my great-great-grandfather.
So good luck with the research. I still have to find out whether my maternal granmother & her sister were the illegitemate daughters of ....! Well you get the picture! And some of the websites have too much information. It is impossible to find the wood for the trees!0 -
Hi, KC, it sounds like quite a busy year you have planned. It'll be good to sort out the practical and the financial, as once that has been done, in future years you can spend more time on the fun stuff, such as the travel and the connections.
I also find the 'net worth' thing slightly perplexing. Since I've been retired, I've done a financial inventory on two occasions, normally when I'm feeling like we've been spending too much. Each time, I've been reassured, but I don't want to spend too much time on it, as I have moved away from logging every last detail. Having days out is much more fun!Early retired - 18th December 2014

My first "making connections" event is starting soon (like, in 40 minutes!) I need to be up and out in 10 minutes, oops :rotfl: I can do it. I'll pop into Waitrose afterwards, as I'll be in the next block, see whats there. I did pretty well at my tidying up yesterday, my spare room is a lot more accessible. Thats it! Gotta go :kisses3:2023: the year I get to buy a car0
