Hello fellow fabbers  and welcome kendraallen
Congratulations to your son 7DW - you are entitled to be proud of him :T
Hope things are going well for your move and you are not overdoing it too much LL. Can't be long now until the little one arrives?
Did a bit of garden 'fabbing' last weekend - OH and I were exhausted by the end of it - we have an extremely long (& high) hedge that borders our house so it took us two days of virtually solid trimming (OH's job) and clearing (my job) Good exercise though
Hope everyone has a good weekend :j0 -
Hi sukey. Posts crossed I think. Yes not long now, we are all getting excited. Poor DIL is huge and very uncomfortable but in good spirits. It's nice that her parents are here. Her mum is going to stay for 3 months. Her dad needs to go back earlier, sometime in August because her sister graduates.
Then her sister will be coming to take up her residency at the Queens Med in Nottingham. So she will be living with DIL and my son for a few months whilst she sorts herself out. Great for DIL...... not only does she get her sister but also a doctor on tap. :rotfl:
My (hopefully) new house has an extremely high and very overgrown conifer hedge. Probably around 20t high and 4ft depth. The trunks are really big. It's an eyesore and cuts out a lot of light. I think rather than try cut it back and maintain it over the years I am just going to bite the bullet and get it removed. Hopefully this autumn, so the roots can die over the winter. Then I'll replace it with something pretty, a couple of nice trees which I will keep under control, and then climbing roses, honeysuckle, clematis etc. The abutting neighbour has trees so I won't be overlooked. There is actually a fence already in place although I can't see what state it's in. That might need replacing.
I am also going to go heavy on flowering cherry trees, I love them, couple of magnolias, and a couple of Lilacs., then some fruit bushes. It's a big garden and has had its guts removed so I will be starting from scratch. Such a shame because in a previous incarnation it was a lovely Japanese style garden with established acers, and two ponds. I probably won't reinstate the ponds because they will be too much work for me as I age but I do intend to try and recapture some of its former glory, whilst at the same time try and make it easy to maintain as I get older, so some nice gravel areas and perhaps a summerhouse surrounded by a rose garden. I am aiming for pretty and feminine with lots of scented flowers. I have already got some saplings in pots which I have been nurturing. I am also taking cuttings of things in this garden.
Luckily ds2 works in a garden centre (discount!!) .....and one of DS1s friends is a landscaper....... so between the two of them I should get some good advice and maybe a few bargains. :rotfl:
DS1 had a row of confifers removed last year. It has made such a difference. They hadn't been maintained and they had grown into monsters which made his garden really gloomy. He now has a beautiful scented white rambling rose which was always there but which was being swamped by the conifers, now that it can breathe it has smothered the wall and it looks and smells lovely. Passers by stop and admire it.
As you know he bought a grade II listed wreck and has been lovingly restoring it. It's been almost 5 years now and whilst work still continues it is starting to look like the once beautiful house it was in its heyday. There is a side entrance with a courtyard behind wrought iron gates. The courtyard is currently in full bloom and we often catch people at the gates peering in and taking photos.
He had to get permission from the council to remove the hedge because it's a conservation area but they were delighted that he wanted it removed, it just wasn't in keeping. They sent a conservation officer round again recently and they are so pleased with what's he's done

Hello ladies, may I join you? I have been feeling distinctly frumpy these last few months and have just wanted to shrink in on myself and not let anyone look at me.
I've been very fed up with all aspects of life and been steadily putting on weight. I have about five outfits that fit (all are frumpy, and I ripped one of them on a fence on Thursday!) That, coupled with reaching my mid 30s and my body all of a sudden requiring 10x the maintenance (actual whiskers!?!), means I am feeling distinctly 'gone to seed'.
I started off last night with a proper bedtime skin routine and I do feel better for it this morning. Today I plan to blow dry my hair properly (instead of pinning it up still wet) and remove my chipped nail polish before meeting a friend for lunch. Have a good Saturday everyone!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Hi Tete......welcome to to the thread. That's an excellent start. It really does all begin with simple grooming.
Well the countdown begins.......I have this morning culled over 40 books. They are in the car waiting to be dropped off at the chazzers.
Last night I wore a pair of shoes that actually hurt me......madness. Why would any sane person wear shoes that cripple them. :rotfl:
So today I am going to cull my boots and shoes.
The big pre move declutter begins today and I'm going to be utterly ruthless......
New house, new start. Good bye anything frumpy, old, tired, unloved, or unwanted....and i will try not to think how much money I have wasted. :rotfl:0 -
Hello Ladies,lessonlearned wrote: »Hmmmmm.....that's a bit weird isn't it.
That is strange. Why would anyone new to this thread want to copy someone else's goals for 2018?
I had a evening with Wayne on Thursday. Still just as friends. He actually made a huge effort and arrived on time to pick me up in his car :rotfl: Wonders will never ceaseWe had an enjoyable time together at the pub, but I cut it short because I was in pain, despite taking my painkillers
I now have a definite diagnosis with regards to my Arthritis. I have Seropositive Inflammatory Arthritis ( otherwise known as Rhuematoid Arthritis) and Osteoarthritis.
I can only enjoy what mobility I currently have as I will have more and more mobility issues as time goes by.
I am continuing to improve my diet on a daily basis. My daily food journal is looking much better. My children are being supportive and understanding that I buy less tempting snacks for the 2 of them to try not to have unhealthy snacks myself.
My Employment and Support Allowance Appeal has had a response from the Department of Work and Pensions. So it is progressing.
I am taking it easy today as I am planning on going to Karaoke tomorrow.0 -
Welcome Tete :hello:
I remember you from the SW forum - Maman posts here too but she is on holiday at the moment.
Congratulations on starting your ‘fabbing’ - you have won half the battle when it starts to become just part of your normal routine.
Saying that, I am having a very un-fab day today - do you ladies ever get those days when you just feel old & haggard?I think I am just feeling a bit run down and tired so I will try and get an early night and some ‘beauty sleep’
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis Sugar but glad you had a nice time out with Wayne.
LL - something I have definitely learnt as I have got older is that I must wear comfortable shoes - used to hobble about in all sorts when I was younger but my poor feet can’t cope with that anymore :eek:0 -
Good morning, thanks for the welcomes!
LL, just think how fab you will feel in a decluttered home! It has such an impact on our state of mind.
Sugar, so sorry to hear about your arthritis, you sound very upbeat though. take care of yourself.I remember you from the SW forum...
Yeah, that's something else I need to take back up (again). I don't know if I dare show my face there, I pop up sporadically full of gusto then disappear after a week or two (under a pile of empty crisp packets usually), it's a bit embarrassing really. I am at my highest weight ever (a record I keep pushing the boundaries with) but I got my calculator out yesterday and worked out that if I lose 2lbs a week, I can be at my goal weight by New Year. That would be amazing, not to have to start my fifth (?) year in a row vowing to lose weight.
I'm definitely a member of the comfy shoe club. I'm really tall anyway so I don't like wearing heels for practical reasons (e.g. can't fit my legs under the desk at work), and I also need to be 'strapped in'. Can't be doing trying to keep my shoes on all day, more important things to think about. Men don't have this issue - blame the patriarchy.
No fabbing for me this morning (apart from my new face routine) as I'm heading straight into the garden. Determined to actually get all the bedding flowers planted today so all I have to think about is maintenance. fed up of having a to do list as long as my arm! Tonight I'll be doing my nails and eyebrows before work tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Im a frugal person by nature , always have been , but want to try and be even more so
Im same as most people , have a few health problems , anxiety issues , mostly worry about family , etc etc , but on the whole im a very positive person , and try my best to keep cheerful , Hopefully that will rub off on others here , Ill try my best . xx
