Oh Candy. Sorry to hear that. You have been really going through the mill lately. Sending you a virtual hug.

Speaking of family issues. My sister wants to meet me next week for a pre Christmas drink/lunch. I haven't seen her for almost 21 months. I don't know quite how I feel. Part of me doesn't want to see her ever again but if she is offering an olive branch and trying to make amends then maybe it would be churlish of me to refuse.

We were practically joined at the hip and I was really hurt by the stunts she pulled when dad died. I never thought we would ever become estranged because we were so close. But in those few weeks after dad's death It felt like she was a total stranger (and not a very nice one).

Do I really want to open myself up to all that again ........it was so painful at the time I really don't want to go there again.

Yeah, I'm a coward. :rotfl: but I feel that it was such a long struggle to reach my current life of calm and serenity I don't want to jeopardise the peace I now enjoy.

Maybe just a quick coffee and keep it light.

Ll, buying Clinique in the USA makes it cheaper than Boots No 7

I might have a snoop around Superdrug or try some Aldi or Lidl.

Oh, candy, that's worrying. Take care. I hope things improve for you.

It’s a long time since I heard the phrase ‘a lick and a promise LL’ . Talking of skin creams there might be some good sets in the sale after Christmas

Good idea. Maybe we should all be on the look out and let each other know if we see something good. Bit of fun for January.
  • As regards moisturizers, I am really cynical as basically they are an oil and water mix. I once went to a training event where we made our own moisturizers for the company. It was enlightening as the waxy solid was agitated into the water. it remained mixed and like the product on sale for ages . Ever since then i just get the most basic really no more than 8 to 10 but i spend like crazy on serums, oil and elixers.

have you tried cerave moisturizer, i found it really nice and effective. VIchy and la roche posey are good value and effective i used to love johnsons moisturizer. I found the aldi one a bit too rich and use it as a cleanser like ponds. I bought a garnier one 3 in 1 moisturizer (day, night and mask) and it is so thick that you could use it as cement.

i think this time of year is highly pressurized and there is an exception of joy and happiness. However, not everyone is full of joy and festivity. it can be mixed. i suppose like a christmas cake, a total mix. .

Candy girl - if you can tolerate aspirin - a gargle with soluble aspirin is really helpful and soothing when your throat feels like someones gone through it with a cheesegrater!
Moisturisers list the ingredients in order of quantity - usually the first is aqua! The lower down on the list of the ingredient the less there is of it. I tend to buy something gwith a level of sun protection and if I can something with Retinol as it's the only effective ingredient for minimising wrinkles. Bio oil contains retinol and isn't expensive.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
