Money....you are giving yourself a hard time.

Just get your waist down to 34 as quickly as possible - for your healths sake. Ultimately that's what really counts.

Scarlett O'Hara might have had "the smallest waist in 3 counties". :rotfl: but remember she was a fictional character......;)

Our goal should be to have a strong, healthy body, one that will see us through to a long and healthy retirement.
  • I've got a large selection of bowls LL - from teeny to huge - and am guessing a sorta mid-size bowl is probably about the "correct" size. I think probably the best size I've got is 8.5" across flattish type bowls I have.

Re the waist - some googling later and I've just ordered a copy of "Fat around the middle" from Marilyn Glenville.

Time after time the websites are saying "Eat healthy - rather than eat processed". That message about wholegrain, rather than white, for instance. I'm okay on that front.

Time after time the websites talk about stress and I figure I should be okay for stress levels basically from here on in for rest of life - now that I don't have to do "That Awful Job" any longer (courtesy of retirement) and my income just rolls into my bank account regardless. That job caused one heck of a lot of stress to me - and it's an almighty relief it's gone now.

Also I've got through the first couple of years or so here and my house itself is basically finished and operating like a normal house now. So #fingers crossed and I'm expecting one or two blow-ups with my brother somewhere along the line (but as ready as I can be to deal with that and not to have it impact back on me any more than I can help).

Vivien Leigh however was a real person and she is the person you actually see having her waist reduced by a corset.

I understand that Stress can be a contributory factor. Stress produces a hormone called cortisol. Too much can lead to weight gain, especially round the tummy area.

So yes less stress in your life now might help.

Anyhow.....the sun is up and I'm ready to get cracking.

Have a lovely day everyone. Keeep fabbing.

Money - the BHF model says for women the waist measurement should be below 31 1/2. Above this to 34 1/2 is seen as increasing health risks and over 34 1/2 has a high health risk and they advise getting help to lose weight.
I do think as we age gravity sets in but the waist measurement apparently is the one to watch .
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Maman.....I meant to say, how impressive that you have managed to maintain your weight loss. I think the half stone window is a great idea.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm pleased that I've kept the weight off.:) While I agree with pollypenny that you shouldn't need to 'diet' for life in weightloss terms you do need to stick to healthy eating whenever possible. Over the years I've met loads of people that go on a diet, lose the excess weight and then just return to their 'normal' way of eating and put the weight back on again. That won't work as it's what made them gain in the first place. It sounds so obvious but loads of people think/behave that way.:(

7DW is right that SW do work to a window for maintaining your chosen weight. It's 3 lbs each way. Ideally I'd prefer to be in the lower end of my range but any lower and I start to look scrawny.
It's interesting the ideas and aids people use. My tip is plate size. Or more accurately I find the new trendy habit of using a bowl helps. Somehow portions look more generous than they are when served in a bowl. :rotfl:

And of course, my habit of substituting vegetables for rice or pasta helps. Last night was curry with cauliflower rice. Served in a bowl. :D

I think I posted this recently.

Obviously buying the plate from Matalan isn't necessary but the principle of what's on your plate as well as the portion size is a good one. I've not tried cauliflower rice but I did make cottage pie last week with a swede & carrot mash topping to minimise potatoes. That being said, I do eat carbs (potatoes, pasta, rice, noodles) but plainly cooked but I limit bread and cereal.

You're right about dress sizes money. There are so many variables that it's hard to equate weight loss on a sliding scale. I often look at people in magazines who say they weigh ? stones and they're a size ? but they're much heavier and shorter than me and yet (allegedly) a smaller size?? I'm happy as a slim size 12 but if I buy something from, say, Primark and I need a 14 I don't beat myself up. I know it's because they've (literally) cut corners with the fabric or whatever so I can live with it.

I had a productive day yesterday too LL. As well as the lovely walk, I sorted out loads of papers for filing, binned some and shredded others. Out of interest, how many years back do most of you keep papers (financial mainly)?:)
Did anyone hear Martin's chat on tv recently about Christmas and overspending and rampant commercialism. I thought it was excellent. Not that we go mad but our family have decided to scale back a bit and keep things simple. .

Yes I saw it and I heard him repeat the message on the radio. The gist was that if you get into tit for tat present giving you often end up with tat!:D

I wouldn't want to dictate because I know many people get pleasure from shopping and present giving but I don't do it myself. We stopped family presents (except for children) a few years ago. Both our DDs have birthdays close to the end of the year so we treat them then. Same with friends except for one group that we exchange token gifts with at our Christmas lunch. Last year I made them bags to hold Scrabble tiles (green with their names embroidered in red ). I put a scented candle (Aldi) in each and they doubled up as a festive looking gift bag. I'm thinking of an idea for this year??

It's another beautiful day here but much cooler. I might go into the city later as I could do with some new slippers!:D

Depends on what papers it is Maman as to how long I keep them. I have 2 guarantee folders for instance - one for the majority of stuff (ie 1 year guarantee) and another for longer guarantees (several years/lifetime/etc).

Bills - well I've just read something on another sub-forum on here that is going to have me keeping my water bills for evermore (reason being my house is in an unadopted road - and therefore I shall keep the proof that, of course, the sewers are Water Board's responsibility - as they are charging me for sewage:D). So - if bills might ever be needed for "proof" purposes - then they are kept as long as that might be the case.

Paperwork to do specifically with my house and the work I myself have had done on my house - will be kept indefinitely. I "inherited" a huge bundle of paperwork from year the house was built when I bought it. That paperwork has come in handy several times to find out info./prove points that aren't down there in writing on the modern day Title Plan/Registry entry.

I have two diaries - one for me (small carry-around for social life and appointments). One large one for the house (A4 sheet per day). Now how large the house diary has to be will depend on how much work one has to do/had to do on the house and how unreliable tradespeople in your area are. In this area - with its worse tradespeople and worse NHS etc - it's an A4 page a day diary. Normally - I'd only have an A5 page diary. Those diaries are going to be kept for evermore. Mainly from the pov of "Oh yes - those are the several decorators I won't be having back again. Oh yes - he's okay - but unreliable - so make sure I chase him" etc.

I think you are meant to keep financial records for 7 years for tax purposes. But I think if you were pre retirement age then I would think you would need to keep stuff like pension records etc until you have started drawing pensions.

Having said that, when I retired I received a pension from a provider that I had long forgotten about because I didn't think I qualified for a pension. Turns out I did. :rotfl: which was nice......

Having said that I still have my P60s from the year dot.

I have now finally been able to get rid of all my husband's business papers. They came to several large crates worth. I still have a few bits and pieces from mum and dad but I think they can go pretty soon.

SDW I know you have sold your Spanish property as I have. How long do you think we should keep the records for that. I sold mine in 2009 but haven't parted with any of the papers yet. I was wondering if I can scan it all, if that would be enough. I realise the Spanish wills are now void anyway. I'd hate to leave the boys in a pickle though when I die.

Fabbing so far today......I have been shopping and stocked up on thermal underwear and tights and some fleecy lounging around the house leggings. And some dark red roses. :rotfl:

House fabbing.......going to plant some spring flowering bulbs in a minute whilst it is reasonably warm and then make a start on altering some curtains.

Just had a look at the weather forecast, definitely going to get colder this week. Need to get the draft proofing done and the thick curtains up and have a bash at putting up that temporary double glazing, although the windows are so big it's probably a two person job.

I have started using a heavier night cream because I've noticed my skin was feeling dry. I hate central heating, it really dries my skin but I guess it's better than being cold. I must remember to drink more water.

I keep papers for 7 years, it is what we always did at work for HMRC so I suppose it is just habit.

I think those scrabble bags sound really nice, I bet they loved them.

I got some nice slippers in Sainsburys a week or two ago, they were reduced to half price and are lovely and warm.

    Have a nice shopping trip.

Just thought it can be handy to keep car stuff for longer, my car is ten years old and I have all the servicing/mot paperwork. Can be useful if I sell it, probably won't matter as I think one of the kids is having it but it's there anyway.

Ooh sorry forgot about house papers, guarantees, proof of planning permissions, work carried out etc. Yes, keep those indefinitely.
