Money not sure where Polly got it from but this is a link to where I saw it in a newspaper. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/9260091/Forget-BMI-just-measure-your-waist-and-height-say-scientists.html

I think it's something useful as an indicator for easy home use. It's a bit like how Diabetes UK use weight /hips or the height / weight charts. Obviously proper medical tests would be better but they're all a help to give you a goal and measure progress.

Personally I find the clothes that fit help me most to keep in check. Nothing like the ' clean jeans test '!:D

Yes, Maman we can but try. :rotfl: that's what Frump to Fab is all about.

I realised today that this thread has been going since December 2010. Can you believe that.

Have I accomplished my mission yet. Am I fabulous yet. Nearly. :rotfl:

In all seriousness I do feel that I have come a long way, there have been setbacks and hiccups along the way but I have weathered the storms. I was in a dark place then but life is good again. And it is in no small measure thanks to the support, kindness and good humour from you lovely ladies.

    I'm almost there. :D

What a lovely post LL. I can't believe we've 'known' each other that long. I know I've gone from feeling like an invisible bag lady to feeling fab and confident. I must have joined just a few weeks after starting to lose weight as it was just what I needed at the time.

Well, I suppose I feel fab most of the time. I think part of the answer is not standing still. :)

I can understand what they are saying about it being easier to use than BMI, I know you can use a calculator on line but if people don't use a computer it is a bit of a faff to work out.

I agree about the clean jeans test, it's the easiest test of all :rotfl:
  • Has anyone been watching the new Dr Who? I think she is brilliant and she's pretty fab too. I think it has really revitalised the programme.
  • Both WW and Slimming World say up to 2lb a week is about what you should aim for....anything more could possibly be losing it too quickly (although not necessarily, there are many variables).

Don't sympathise with LL, she doesn't need your sympathy, , any weight loss is good :)

Never mind any weight loss is good, I told my husband the first thing is to stop gaining :rotfl: He's cracked that one.

Yes that is good too, and maintaining your weight can be as hard as losing it.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

    Just as well:rotfl:

I know I've often wondered how on earth things would go if I were married and we both needed to lose weight - and I was the only one doing so:cool::mad::cool::mad:

Somehow it always worked out with boyfriends that "daylight didn't take long to dawn" on them and few of them had any surplus weight to start with - and those that were carrying a couple of stone extra decided of themselves:cool:;) to lose it. I will admit to wondering what would have happened if they hadnt though - but my own weight had been okay.....

What I was used to growing up was that both my parents kept an eye on each others weight as well as their own. I don't remember my mother doing anything other than making a couple of semi-jokey comments to my father - probably rather less than his comment to her after she had her first child (ie he gave her a present of a girdle):rotfl:.

I think it's really only in the last few years (ie their late 80's) that they've stopped keeping an eye on each others appearance, as well as their own.

Tell me about it! I try hard to stay in a half stone window. I'm fine eating at home but RL like holidays and meals out make it a challenge. :) But I've done it for over 7 years so now it's my new normal. :)

And she didn't kill him? I think I'd have been very tempted to take a frying pan to his head and I'd probably have got away with it.
