I love it when sugarbaby shares all the exciting things she's doing especially as many of them are free or very mse.:money:
My DH has been involved with our local library, mainly arranging events to increase the footfall and raise funds. We're delighted that the local council is now prepared to pay for refurbishment of the building and funds raised by the 'friends' will pay for new seating etc and total refurbishment of Children's Library.:D It's hard data that impresses the council so the footfall is very important.
:T that's brilliant TF. Well done. I agree that it's fine to have a few treats as part of a balanced 'diet'. It's when the treats become part of everyday eating that the problems start.
I haven't read widely into nutrition but I do know (from DH's GP) that there is some cholesterol that responds to diet while other can be genetic so won't necessarily respond. My reasoning was that eating the healthy food, having some exercise etc. is good for you whichever type of cholesterol you have.
I'm going to have the shellac taken off my nails this week, cut them short and left 'au naturel' for a few weeks. While I love the shellac, it does encourage me to not look after my nails properly although I do use hand cream daily. When they're not painted I take a lot more care with cleaning them:o, shaping them, buffing them, oiling cuticles etc.
The weather is still glorious here. Hoping to get out for a walk later.:)
My local library is very small but it is a real hub. We have coffee mornings on a Monday when you can sit and have a coffee and put the world to rights, Wednesdays is music for the toddlers, I love choosing my books with all the little ones ringing their bells and banging their drums while mums and group leader sing along, it lifts my heart. Then we have the trips, every couple of months we hire a coach and have a day out, next one is the Christmas Market in Bath but I can't do that one, it is too far for DH and it would be a long day for him on his own if I went so I'm giving that one a miss.
Your husband is doing a great thing helping the library, the cut backs are forcing so many libraries to close or cut back which is such a loss.
I quite fancy having my nails done with shellac, I might treat myself for Christmas.
I've never had my cholesterol done, I don't think my doctor is concerned as I have low blood pressure, so low that my DIL, who is a doctor, was quite concerned about it but I've always had low blood pressure so I just reassured her that it was normal for me. I do think sometimes that if I was ill something might be missed if they thought my BP was normal when in fact it would be high for me. My husband has always had terrible eating habits, his job didn't help but habits learned in childhood do stick with him, I don't know who was more surprised when he had his cholesterol done and it was perfect. Sometimes these things are luck or as you say genetic.
We are getting ready for a little outing to the beach. I can park DH as he likes sitting looking at the sea and I'll have a walk, unfortunately that will probably be followed with tea and a cake at the beach cafe but their home made cakes are so lovely it would be rude not to and if we don't use it we might lose it. That's my excuse anyway.0 -
Girdles don't have the same effect as a corset. Corsets will change your shape and posture if worn correctly. You can look it up as corset waist training. People do have amazing results but I couldn't do it, I'd be like those Victorian ladies who were always fainting.0

Re waist measurement, I read that it should be half one's height. In early 2016 I hit 11st 4lbs, heavier than in either pregnancy, and was appalled to find my waist measured 38". I'm 5'3".
I read Michael Mosley' 5:2 book, cover to cover and started immediately. By September I'd reached my 9st 7lbs target. I seem to have settled at around 9 - 9.3 now. Waist 28.
Humpty, like you, I love potatoes, but once a week now is enough. I've re-educated my taste somehow. Loads of recipes in the book.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Just a little tale from my holiday. There was a fashion photo shoot on the beach and the two models were changing in the local pub/hotel. They were very ordinary (albeit reed slim). Honestly, you would have walked past them in the street without a second look. But, when they changed into these fabulous dresses and got in front of a camera they looked completely different. Fantastic photographs. It made me wonder though about these fantastic looking celebrities. Is it due to:
a) confidence
b) fabulous clothes
c) a good camera man who knows how to edit
Just a thought.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
So many interesting topics today!
First, I just had to measure my waist and it's 30 inches! That sounds a lot but I'm really quite slim and 5 ft 9 so definitely in proportion. On those height / weight charts I'm right in the middle of the healthy range so that suits me.:)
I posted about girdles the other day. I had a panty girdle many years ago as it helped to stop tights falling down! Even now I buy large or extra large to get the length.
When I was pregnant, I'm convinced having a hideous maternity corset helped me to keep my shape, flat stomach and avoid any stretch marks.
TF , I think we're on a hiding to nothing if we think that we're on a level playing field with celebs. On top of the air brushing that goes on there's the fabulous clothes, tailored to fit. Then they have make up people and hairdressers. Then for some there's the plastic surgery and dental work. We can but try!
I love spending time down by the sea. I particularly like it out of season. I enjoy a brisk walk but also happy with a coffee watching the waves. We have a good cafe too. I think it's a great idea to have cake when you're out. That way you can just have a single slice. At home there's the temptation to have more.
We had a walk for about 2 hours. Some of it brisk but also taking in views and a wander round the village church. Weather is amazing!
Now to make us a lovely roast.0 -

What really amazed me was just how ordinary these girls were. Actually, one of them wasn't even pretty (god, that sounds !!!!!y!) but she was very tall, straight up and down, no figure to speak of. In fact she was quite masculine looking. Yes, you're right, we can't compete but I wonder how many young girls try.
Anyway, the dresses were gorgeous. Not that I could afford them and I'd look like a sack of potatoes so I'll just plod on trying to be well groomed and feeling comfortable.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Polly I can't give up potatoes, well I suppose that should be I don't want to. I'm lucky as I've never had a weight problem so I haven't had to face the horror of giving up my potatoes. I'd heard that about the waist being half the height, seems a nice simple way to work it out.
Maman I couldn't believe how busy the beach was, I suppose nice weather plus half term does it. The cake was lovely, I had lemon cake and he had chocolate and we got a good table so glass all round us with a beautiful view, it wasn't quite warm enough to sit outside.0 -
TF. I think it's probably a combination of all three....... they say the camera never lies......but oh it does.:rotfl:...... but it also reveals great truths. It can capture images and frame a moment that the naked eye can miss. And it's the mark of a great photographer when they can transform the mundane into the sublime.0

I read Michael Mosley' 5:2 book, cover to cover and started immediately. By September I'd reached my 9st 7lbs target. I seem to have settled at around 9 - 9.3 now. Waist 28.
I'd be interested to know if you have details on that statistic:).
Right at this moment - my waist is 37":(:(. Now I'm 5'4" (well I was - though I suspect I've shrunk an inch or two in recent years). Which would make me due to be 32" waist (which I see is the size of my "normal" size jeans I can't get back into yet). Don't know if it makes a difference that my "normal" jeans are mens ones?? (which seem to work better for me - as I don't have big hips).
I'm still trying to figure out what weight I was when my "normal" size jeans were "swimming" on me and thinking that must have been when I went down (not by trying) one time to 7 stone 12 lbs.
Well if you can go to a 28" waist at 1" shorter than me - then I would say that gives me hope.
I think I'm about 9st 7lbs right now - judging by the fact that that was the weight I was when I moved here 5 years ago. I've been doing more clothes trying on today from my wardrobe and I think the fit of a pair of jeans I wore coming over here feels much the same as it did then.
Well at least I've lost the "Welsh weight" then - ie what I gained extra since coming here:)
I shall be going down about another stone yet - sighs at the thought of yet more effort - but it can't be that much longer....:cool:0 -
Money not sure where Polly got it from but this is a link to where I saw it in a newspaper. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/9260091/Forget-BMI-just-measure-your-waist-and-height-say-scientists.html0
