  • Just to say I am really pleased. I had some routine blood tests the other day and everything is fine, including my cholesterol, which I was worried about. Since I have lost weight, my blood pressure has been normal so I asked the Dr if I could come off my BP medication, he said yes. We have to monitor it for a month or two.

I am delighted and looking forward to losing a bit more weight.

Well done, that must encourage you to carry on. My husband had some med reduced due to weight loss, not BP, but it is particularly hard for him to control his weight due to his health condition, lack of mobility plus medication. He pretty well has to starve but he has lost almost 2 stone and now we just need to keep it stable. It is hard because as he says he hasn't got alot of fun going on in his life due to pain and mobility issues so food is important to him. His mother was also one who used food as a reward/treat so it affects his relationship with food and not having lots of goodies feels like a punishment. Philip Larkin was right, parents really can **** us up, you'd think in his 70s he'd have got over it but I don't suppose it will change now. I'm trying to do treats that aren't too bad but I haven't got a clue about calories so this is all new to me.

Have you been exercising or is it all diet? I would think the exercise must get easier as the weight comes off. You'll be a skinny minny by Christmas at this rate.

That really is excellent news 7DW for theweightloss but especially the medication. Well done!:T

DH did decide to cut back on some treats. We looked up the calories in his favourite Belgian Buns and it's about 400 each!:eek:We'll just try a few tweaks and see what happens (to his waistline) in the next couple of weeks.

I agree with you about food being used for rewards humpty. I put weight on purely because of a change of lifestyle and lost it when I cut back on bad habits (too much wine and then munching on cheese and crisps to go with it:o). But when I joined SW I met people with a poor relationship with food, mainly comfort eaters through stress but also 'chocoholics' and people who seemed to feel deprived when they ate healthy food. They're difficult habits/mindsets to change.
  • maman it is hard, I'm trying to do little things that he won't notice much like swapping his favourite Mars bars for a Kitkat, I think they were less than half the calories. I've also cut down on cheese as I discovered that was high calories and he will eat cheese till it is coming out of his ears. Lots of chicken sandwiches instead of cheese! Hopefully it will help to maintain the loss without making him feel to deprived.

If you find a low calorie replacement for Belgian buns I'd be grateful to hear what it is.

I think (this dieting lark is a mystery to me) that grilled bacon is quite good for breakfast so he has been having that instead of toast and marmalade but I'm not sure if that is good or not. I think I need a diet expert to give me some tips. The main thing I'm trying is just slightly smaller portions. I find it a challenge as I'm not a big eater so I find it hard to fill him up.

    Hello everyone
Back after my three week holiday and catching up.
We had a lovely time but I ate and drank far too much. However, did a bit of walking and a lot of reading. It was very relaxing.
I need to get back to some serious fabbing. Hairdressers on Tuesday for a start and no drinking and a lot of healthy eating.
Be back soon. Hope everyone is well.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Fresh fruit is good, fat-free yoghurt, sugar-free jelly, something like truvia instead of sugar.

I do go to the gym but not as often as I should. However I try to go at least once a week, I would like to go three times.

  • I'll try the yoghurt and sugar free jelly thanks. He isn't big on fruit unfortunately.

Lean grilled bacon and poached eggs with tomatoes (tinned or fresh) and boiled or grilled mushrooms is a good breakfast. Most boiled or microwaved veggies are fine, so cut down on his potatoes and give him more other veggies. Potatoes should be boiled or microwaved. Chicken and turkey (no skin) are good lean meats, use 5% fat mince for things like chillies and spag bols. Most white fish and tuna(in spring water) and either tinned or fresh salmon are OK. Wholemeal bread and pasta are better than white, but the dried pasta should be no more than a handful. Also try courgetti ('spaghetti' made from courgettes), and 'rice' made from cauliflower.

  • That's helpful. We do seem to be on the right track, he's having more fish (and that was a battle as again it was something he mum didn't do!) I've definitely upped the chicken and disguise the reduced portions with lots of veg. Potatoes are sacrosanct in my house, my Irish heritage I suppose but I have to have my spuds.

Hopefully with a few tweeks we can keep his weight stable.

Spuds are not too bad if you keep an eye on the portion size and don't have them too often in the form of chipped, roasted or fried :). I like my spuds too.

    Hello Ladies,

7DW you had done brilliantly on your weight loss. All of your hard work has paid off :D

LL 2.6lbs in one week is great as well :D

    Welcome back Tony's Friend :D

I went to a free event in Brixton Library that featured The Pegasus Opera Choir which is a Black classical choir. There were other adult choirs and a children's choir and The Lambeth Youth Classical Choir. They were all excellent voiced and so musically talented. :j:D As was the conductor, who was quite a character but a fit, good looking man with dark hair and Mediterranean skin. ;)

It was the 1st time I had attended an event in Brixton Library, but it will not be my last. :D

Life is giving me a few knocks at the moment which are beyond my control, but I am making the best of free and inexpensive events that bring me real joy and open up my mind and my life to new and exciting experiences.:D I am re-filling my cup so that it is always at least half full :D
