  • Hello Ladies,

I had a very, very unpleasant incident with a Tesco delivery driver yesterday which resulted in the driver verbally abusing me, making me feel threatened, refusing to bring my shopping up to my kitchen and driving away with most of my grocery shopping.

I was very distressed by the whole incident, but I have made a Formal Complaint to Tesco in writing and I am waiting for a personal response from them and a refund for all of my missing groceries. :(

I have made it clear that I expect the delivery driver to be subject to their Gross Misconduct Policy. :(

I will update you all when I finally get a response from Tesco and get my refund.

Sometimes life just kicks you in the teeth and yesterday the kick I got was quite brutal.

Maman I meant to reply to your post about your bathroom refit.

I know getting older and more decrepit is something we don't like to think about but one thing I have decided is that I shall ask my plumber to fit the loo a little higher. I have noticed that using a slightly higher placed loo is kinder to my dodgy knees. :rotfl:

You are right about doing away with pedestals and replacing with wall hung sanitary ware, they definitely make the room more spacious.

    Love the dress.

I'm thinking about redoing the bathroom, too. The bath is too high and it doesn't have handles as our old one did. We bought a good looking vanity unit with sink from Bathstore but it's proved to be poor quality, with the vinyl wrap stuff beginning to peel on the drawer edges. It looks tatty now.

I'm thinking wall-hung, too, with undertile heating. It's ironic that we replaced a good-quality cream suite with this in 2007.

Re chatting in shops- all the time, unless I woukd hold up another person.

    Good morning lovely ladies.

Polly......underfloor heating in bathrooms. I am with you all the way on that one. Trendy towel rails look nice but they don't seem to throw out much heat and all tiled bathrooms can be very cold. We didn't do it in the last house, I shall definitely be doing it here.

I believe I mentioned this house is dreadfully cold. I think the energy rating is about an E. :rotfl: Being a detached bungalow there is a large uninsulated floor area and a lot of outside walls, single brick no cavity, two large single glazed windows to the front elevation and of course nothing in the loft. I must be heating up outer space.

I'll do as much as I can to sort out some quick fixes for this winter but I am resigned to large heating bills this time round. I Will definitely be addressing the insulation next year. I am also tempted to look at solar panels at some point in the future. DS2 will be able to fit them when he has completed his training. I can be his first customer......he can cut his teeth on my roof.

I did eventually manage to track down a secondary glazing firm in Sheffield. They will fit them For me but that will be very expensive because it would require 4 site visits and a lot of travelling time added to the bill.

I've had a word with my handyman and he says he'll do it for me. Phew - that will save a shed load of money. Luckily they are happy to supply only.

When my guy comes on Wednesday I will get him to measure again to double check my measurements and then I can get that ordered. Hopefully I can get that done before the real bad weather hits. In the meantime I shall double up on curtains and try that diy clingfilm type glazing. Need to try and get that done in the next couple of days. The nights are starting to get chilly. I think there was a touch of ground frost first thing. Still it looks like we still have few nice days ahead of us. We have been very lucky so far. I did read somewhere that we are in for a bad winter. Oh well. Can't be helped.

Some good news. I have lost 2.6lbs this week. The DIY diet is obviously effective, all that hard manual labour. :rotfl:

Now.....do you realise that it's only just over 10 weeks to Christmas. How did that happen.

Anyway I've set myself a Christmas challenge. Lose 10lbs in 10 weeks.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I have a couple of nice outings planned.

    Have fun and keeeeep fabbing.

SUgarbaby......what a horrible experience for you. I read something similar recently about a young mum who lived in an upstairs flat. She had two little ones and so shopped online. The delivery driver dumped the lot in the foyer and refused to help her take the shopping upstairs. He too was rude and abusive. Can't remember which supermarket.

It really is not good enough. I hope you get some satisfaction. You seem to be having a bit of a run of bad things happening at the moment. Hope things pick up for you soon.

That's a dreadful experience sugarbaby. Was it just because he didn't want to bring it up to your flat? Surely that must be commonplace for them particularly in London. Hope you get an efficient response from Tesco PDQ.

I'm still thinking about the bathroom. Now you've thrown underfloor heating into the mix pollypenny!!

DH has 'decided' that we should replace the bath we never use with a large shower. I'm OK with that and if we really missed it (which we won't) then it's not an irreversible decision. I've spent a while looking at suitable trays/enclosures. One end of the space/shower tray needs to be narrower or open because of the window. They seem to make those P or L shaped baths but not similar shower trays?? I'm also thinking that maybe I don't need a completely enclosed unit as we're happy enough now without one for the overbath shower and from my experience in hotels it can feel claustrophobic. Apologies for thinking aloud. I'll get there.;)

I'm undecided about the new clothes:think:. The shirt dress is good but sleeves could be longer. I like the mid calf length of the trousers but not sure how practical for the time of year as footwear becomes an issue. I think maybe I'll return them and just use the experience to make me think about what I really want to refresh my wardrobe. I do like the 'paper bag' trousers though. They have an elasticated waist and are quite forgiving over the thighs so really comfortable but you'd have to wear a really loose tunic over them or something tucked in as they have a 'frill' at the waist. Maybe I'll buy a full length pair.

:T Well done on the weightloss LL.

DH has been looking through his wardrobe too. He's got a number of suits where the jacket fits well but the waistbands have shrunk on the trousers!:D We're going to a black tie do in December and as his dinner suit is one of the shrunken ones he says he's going to do something about it. We'll see. I need a decision from him before I go shopping and buy biscuits.;)

Glorious autumn day here again. After lunch I'm off to Aldi. Exciting!:D

    Hello Ladies,

I can hardly get over the fact that once again the sun is shining in London, but it is so MSE as I do not need any central heating for my home, so I am saving a lot of money at the moment. :D

I try not to think about that whole incident with that particular Tesco delivery driver because I find it more distressing that it was a young female driver that treated me so dreadfully. She actually used the f word twice!

I have received no response yet from Tesco with regards to the Formal Complaint but I have received a full refund for the groceries that were taken away. Mind you I did have to phone Tesco's customer service centre about the refund as 3 items I had not received had not been included in the refund. But they issued me with a refund for those 3 items today and I also received an e-coupon for £10 off my next shop as a goodwill payment, but that is not in resolution of my Formal Complaint. :o

I went to Brixton Ritzy this morning to watch the documentary Tough Love for free. It was very eye opening as until today I did not know of this brilliant community project AFEWEE. It is a local project that is extremely successful at supporting young people in the local area to become a success and to fulfill their hopes and dreams through football, boxing or through realising their own goals for their own lives. :j There was a brilliant question and answer session after the 15 minute documentary, with the founder of AFEWEE, the 2 film makers and one of the teenage boys who has realised his dream of becoming a professional football player. :D

I am going to a musical event in Brixton Library this evening, which I am really looking forward to. :D

I'm basking in the low sun through the living room window at the moment. The heating won't kick in for a long time as the sun is also pouring into the Hall and the thermostat.

LL, did you try 5:2? While you're so busy the low calorie day's should be very easy for you.

  • Just to say I am really pleased. I had some routine blood tests the other day and everything is fine, including my cholesterol, which I was worried about. Since I have lost weight, my blood pressure has been normal so I asked the Dr if I could come off my BP medication, he said yes. We have to monitor it for a month or two.

I am delighted and looking forward to losing a bit more weight.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
