I'm wonderynow whther we need to keep bank statements for long. In case of a problem, we could get duplicates. My file boxes are groaning eith the weight.
I can see a reason to keep credit card bills for a good few years. We had a problem with our dining chairs, but were able to use the cc statement as our proof of purchase.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Hello Ladies,
The last time I did my measurements they were bust/back 41" far too much back fat, waist 39.5" far too big and hips 43.5" too big
I recently lost 7 pounds in weight and I was really happy but now I have found myself gaining weight last week, so I had to take a good look at my food diary. I had been having too many snacks that were not healthy for me, so now I am taking far more notice of what type of snacks I am consuming.
I do so much better when I only have healthy snacks at home, but I have to buy cake, biscuits and other high calorie snacks for my 26 year old daughter. She is really healthy and does not need to lose weight and as she loves to eat cakes, biscuits etc, then sometimes I do not want to resist them. I sometimes get fed-up of depriving myself of cakes and biscuits. I normally eat lots of fruit and vegetables every day to fill me up and to stop me from eating unhealthy snacks.
I am going to set myself a goal waist measurement for when I am going on holiday next April to the Caribbean with 3 of my sisters, rather than a weight goal. I want to have the pick of my vast wardrobe of clothes to pack in my suitcases.
My older brother H needed help with filling out his Health Assessment form for his ESA claim today, so I paid him a visit. I completed the form and photocopied each page of the form before I sent the form by recorded delivery. I had done the previous one for him 6 month's ago, so armed with the photocopied pages of the previous form, it was not a laborious task to fill in today's form because I had all of the relevant information at hand.
I went to Karaoke last night and had a really enjoyable evening. There were so many other singers there that I only got the chance to sing 2 songs. I did get more opportunity to dance though.
I have already bought all the Christmas presents for my children and grandchildren. I just have to get them wrapped. I have also bought birthday presents for my elder son and daughter for their December birthdays. I spent a lot less than I have in previous years, but I got such great bargains throughout the year.0 -
The other thing is insurance claims.....it is essential to have receipts or bank and cc statements as proof of purchase. should you ever need to make a claim. I also take photos of valuable items, jewellery etc.
Gosh.....no wonder we are all drowning in paper.
Couldn't plant the bulbs, couldnt find a garden trowel. I know I've got 2. Nipped to the ironmongers, they'd sold out. Some things just aren't meant to happen.0 -

Having said that, when I retired I received a pension from a provider that I had long forgotten about because I didn't think I qualified for a pension. Turns out I did. :rotfl: which was nice......
Having said that I still have my P60s from the year dot.
I have now finally been able to get rid of all my husband's business papers. They came to several large crates worth. I still have a few bits and pieces from mum and dad but I think they can go pretty soon.
SDW I know you have sold your Spanish property as I have. How long do you think we should keep the records for that. I sold mine in 2009 but haven't parted with any of the papers yet. I was wondering if I can scan it all, if that would be enough. I realise the Spanish wills are now void anyway. I'd hate to leave the boys in a pickle though when I die.
Fabbing so far today......I have been shopping and stocked up on thermal underwear and tights and some fleecy lounging around the house leggings. And some dark red roses. :rotfl:
House fabbing.......going to plant some spring flowering bulbs in a minute whilst it is reasonably warm and then make a start on altering some curtains.
Just had a look at the weather forecast, definitely going to get colder this week. Need to get the draft proofing done and the thick curtains up and have a bash at putting up that temporary double glazing, although the windows are so big it's probably a two person job.
I have started using a heavier night cream because I've noticed my skin was feeling dry. I hate central heating, it really dries my skin but I guess it's better than being cold. I must remember to drink more water.
We sold ours in 2012. Still have all the papers in the loft. TBH, I had forgotten all about them. I would have thought ten years would be long enough. Would they even be able to find you, if you have moved house?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Yes, I thought about 10 years should do it.0

Do you do online banking? I don't keep bank or credit card statements any more as I can access them online. It does save on alot of storage.0 -
sugarbaby I do admire you and your karaoke, I have a real hangup about singing in public and I think anyone who can standup and sing in front of people is amazing.
I'm also impressed with you having the Christmas presents done. I started this weekend, online so the lazy way to stop. I'm planning on doing some more when Sainsbury's do their double up on nectar points. I've got £40 so I will have £80 to spend. I'll get the three little GC something to wear, they had some lovely little pinafores with a matching fine jumper and tights for £14 I think so that will be half my points gone. Then I'll get some bits for my sons to add to presents, probably socks or PJs. It all helps. I've got about £60 due from Topcashback so if that comes through I will get Amazon vouchers for somethings. Somehow not spending "real" money makes me feel I'm not spending so much. Terrible to be playing mind games with myself.
I should be thinking about birthday presents, I've got one child, one DIL and one GC in November and haven't got them sorted yet. I think I need you to sort me out sugarbaby.0 -
Thanks for the responses on paperwork. It's mostly financial stuff like accounts we used to have and things like that. That's the downside of shopping around and comparing, we keep swapping providers for just about everything. It's hard to keep up.
Other than the obvious things that need keeping, I think I'll mostly go with the 7 year rule that we used at work too.
I don't have paper bank statements so that's a bonus.:)
I did go into the city but didn't get slippers as was undecided and not that urgent. I returned the stuff to H&M. It was a shame as I liked the fabrics and the William Morris pattern but the sleeves were too short (more skimping:() on the dress and I bought the trousers to go with it so they had to go back too.
I tried on some velour jeggings in White Stuff. They are nice but I think £50 is a bit steep for what they are. I think I'll look around for some a bit cheaper.
My new phone is now up and working so now I have to get used to it. It seems to want passwords for everything, all of which I've forgotten. At least I can make calls and receive texts and What'sApp. Email on the phone might take a little longer as apparently I have a password for my email address??.0 -
I think that Sainsburys 25% off clothing starts tomorrow, incase anyone needs anything.
Like sugar I have nearly finished our Christmas shopping.
I am off work tomorrow, so I will be spending the day with the children. We will be meeting some school friends at a soft play, so whilst the children are playing, we can chat over a cuppa.0 -
Now I have a dilema! Do I buy things in the Sainsburys 25% off or do I wait for the Nectar double up? I can't decide. Think I need to see what else I could buy in the double up. Decisions, decisions.0
