Money. If your hair is a nice white then embrace your silver fox. And yes it’s very fashionable. My hairdresser tells me people pay a fortune to get their hair my colour. In Brazil boys as young as 11 are dyeing their hair silver. :rotfl:
I know not everyone wants to go au naturelle but my hair is in much better condition since I stopped having it coloured. And last time I had it done no one liked it:rotfl:
The Venezuelan lot rave about it because it is so soft and silky. Their hair is much coarser.
This sounds vain but it’s true. Going back to Humpty and wedding outfits.....
When DS got married in Barcelona it was in a cathedral. Very grand. I wore a silvery blue Jackie O style dress and short jacket and nude shoes. Very simple. I heard some of the Venezuelan lot saying
“Christopher’s mama es muy elegante”. Apparently they loved the simplicity of my outfit and my natural white hair. I heard the name Helen Mirren mentioned too. So I’m guessing they were comparing me to her.
Not bad, eh. :rotfl:0 -
LL Thanks for the info. I've had a Worcester in the past at my previous property and was very happy with it. I checked the Which magazine recommendations yesterday and Worcester was rated the best. A heating engineer who has been messing me about all week cancelling appointments & then not turning up for the rearranged times said its very hard to find anyone to service or repair Worcester which put the element of doubt in my mind. I think he just doesn't like working on them. On Worcester's website there's a couple of recommended fitters close to me so I'll contact them next week. I've had enough of tradesmen this week!!
I'm going to have a home spa day. All housework up to date so I'm going to dig out scrubs, face packs, epsom salts etc & have a thorough pamper session.
Keep up the fabbing ladies and hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Need to buy some cyclamens now!!:rotfl:0 -
Had an idea humpty that you could wear those nude shoes with your outfit. If you're not up for the stilettos that the Duchesses wear, I noticed that M&S have nude wedges in the sale. They might be worth a look.:)
Good news about the dining furniture chanie . You're home is really coming together. What's next?
Funnily enough I was thinking of having a look at M&S, I used to get my work shoes from them and they seem to suit my horrible feet better than most.0 -

Now that sounds like an excellent plan!:T
Glad you're improving a bit sugarbaby. Do you know what makes the pain flare up?:)lucywillow wrote: »Need to buy some cyclamens now!!:rotfl:
I love cyclamen but need to ask a (probably dumb:o) question. I think there's a difference between the ones that are around at the moment in pots and the ones that seem to be perennial that I often see under trees in woodland. Am I right? The pot ones are lovely but they don't like frost whereas the others seem hardy. Is it just me or should I be looking for a specific variety?
Not much urgent on today other than my meal plan for the week and some shopping. I'm pleased as it's been really busy lately and we're away tomorrow and Sunday. I need to check the weather forecast and work out what to wear both for the party and for travelling. We're planning to take a leisurely drive, definitely stop for lunch and possibly a NT property on the way and/or the way back on Sunday. Looking forward to it so it's good to have a quiet day today.
I did manage to fit in having my nails done yesterday. They're cut short again and deep red. When these start to grow out I plan to have a break until early December. I've not had 'au naturel' hair since I was in my early twenties (I have highlights 2/3 times a year) but I think it does my nails good to have a bit of a rest from polish, especially shellac.
Next week I'll make a podiatrist appointment. I can't see me wearing sandals much longer so I will take the polish off my toes too. Through the summer I've been having pedicures instead.
The sun's much slower getting out today, but it's trying hard!:D0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Maman. Not sure about the cyclamens. Mum used to buy them, keep them in the house the first year and then plant them out the following year. Some survived some didn’t. Maybe google them for more detail.
I tend to take mums approach to gardening. If it grows great, if not well que sera. Lol mind I fo seem to have inherited her green fingers so I don’t have too many failures
In nature there are always failures, seeds don’t slways germinate, seedlings die, plants get diseases. I tend to overplant and then remove the surplus. It helps keeps weeds down too.
I’m happy with the tree surgeons quote so going to fire ahead. I hate conifers with a passion. They can become monsters. The hedge here is pushing 30 ft and out if control. Left to its own devices it will easily reach 60ft. It’s going to cost me £2k to remove it and replace the fencing which it has wrecked - money that could be spent on better things. And all because it wasn’t maintained. Frustrating but I knew before I bought the house so it was as a planned expense.
As for the boiler. Well I never take a boiler at face value and I always budget for a replacement. Again all down to neglect and mismanagement. It never ceases to amaze me how people neglect their biggest financial investment.
I’ve been dancing too. Only in the house. Don’t think I have enough stamina for a full class so it would be a waste of money so fir now I will dance at home and build up my endurance. Won’t take long with all thus physical work I’m doing. I’ll be fitter in no time. Tested my blood sugars and they are back within an acceptable range already. Purely down to healthier eating and getting physical. Now I need to be them back to normal. Hopefully if I can shed a couple of stones that will help.
Willow. Good idea about trades. I personally think a good tradesperson is worth their weight in gold. When I find one I treasure them. I spoil them with snacks and treats, pay them well and give them an extra tip. They know that I respect their abilities and value them so they always respond quickly when I need them urgently. A bad or indifferent tradesperson is a liability. So I agree shop around and when you find a good one keep them happy. I’ve told my plumber he is not allowed to retire. Lol.0 -
Mamman - the big cyclamen in pots are houseplants but the little cyclamen that are usually sold in trays of 4 or 6 are outdoor ones. I usually get mine from my local Morrisons as they always seem well looked after and often survive quite a few years. In fact some of the ones I bought in previous years have been transplanted from the window boxes to the garden as they got too big and I noticed this year I've got lots of babies where they've set seed!
No fabbing this weekend - last sailing rally of the year - weather looks dry and bright but B cold - so wrap up and plenty of moisturiser and lip salve!
LL - so with you on good tradesmen! I'm lucky to have a son 'in the trade' so lots of good contacts. He's always said if a tradesman can come straight away be careful - the good ones always have a full order book and you have to wait a while - and its always worth the wait as a bad job always turns out more expensive.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Split the post. Still typing on phone.
Getting broadband next Wednesday. Wahoo. Talk talk shot themselves in the foot. I got so fed up I have swapped providers. Fingers crossed sky will be better. Saved myself £17 a month too.
Gave myself a manicure last night. Hands are getting better but still very dry so lots of hand cream. Thankfully my Feet feel much better today too.
I feel like I’ve really turned a corner. I love my new home and I think I’m going to be very happy here. Just need to lose weight and improve my fitness now. I have found out there’s a slimming world meeting within a 5 minute walk so I think I will sign up. Next Monday.
In the meantime more gardening today whilst the weather holds0 -
Silva. Mum always bought her cyclamens from Morrison’s. They seem to be good with their plants. I have bought trees from there, very reasonably priced and they’ve all done well.
Enjoy your sailing. Sounds fab.
Well breakfast and coffee break over. Back to work.
Have a fab weekend everyone.0 -
LL how is your new grandchild, a boy I think? Is your DIL recovering well from the CS? I can't remember how old the baby must be, is it 2 or 3 months since the happy event?0

LL - There's plenty of how-to videos on YouTube for dance of all sorts of descriptions.
I've got a Pinterest page specially for dances I like - particularly the how-to videos. I save all sorts of dance clips - line dancing, bellydancing, Bollywood dancing - as I've got a wide variety of types of dance I like. I have had to learn types that aren't "my scene" a bit since moving here - eg Strictly type dancing and so I can now waltz for instance - but I prefer types that are more "modern" basically if possible if there's enough choice available locally and I like circle dancing too.
Recently discovered that there is a tendency for particularly popular Bollywood songs to have a variety of people putting out their how-to-dance-to-it videos and I duly save several of any songs that are "major" enough we're aware of them here in Britain.
Wish there was a Bollywood dance class near me locally - but, unless and until there is, then I have to "do my own thing" re that.0
