I did buy myself a new set of plates pretty recently. They're really pasta plates I think - and just 9" wide. Got to be a better bet diet-wise than the massive square white Waitrose ones I bought as the set before that.
I think it's a combination of a set of ideas that helps. It all adds up. So, to date:
- those 9" wide plates
- more mindful eating
- high proportion of fruit and vegetables
- enough to drink (so I don't think I'm hungry - when actually I'm thirsty)
- try not to snack - but will have something if I'm genuinely hungry
- cutting back on booze (ie pretty much only have it socially and/or for celebratory purposes now). Decided it's not a "civilised" etc type of thing to do to pretty much automatically have wine with dinner when everyone else (well - quite a few people) are doing so too.
- using as little oil as possible (at any rate until I've lost the rest of the weight)
- trying on clothes I want to get back into at regular intervals to gauge progress (today's plus there was that last time I tried on a summer caftan type top of tunic length I have I couldn't even get it over my head). Today's try-on of that = I got it on easily, but it doesnt fit yet (noticeably too tight over the bust). Well - I think I'm about halfway back towards wearing it....:)
- I've found this yoga mudra to do daily for 45 minutes - ie holding back the ring finger on each hand as far towards palm as my thumbs will hold them (easily done whilst watching a tv programme or something anyway). It's supposed to rev up the metabolism or something.
So - those are my little things I've thought of to date as tips to incorporate regularly.0 -
Hope you have a better day tomorrow Sugarbaby.
Just a few ideas :I'm not saying you need to buy one but they have plates in Matalan to encourage healthy eating. Basically they're marked out with half a plate of veg, quarter carbs and quarter protein. It's a good guide.
I'd say, try to eat more veg than fruit although obviously fruit is better than sweets! I agree with mindful eating so definitely don't deprive yourself and keep thinking I'm on a diet ' or you'll give up. Carbs shouldn't be banned but have them as plain as possible rather than in cream sauces or deep fried. Occasional meals which are just protein and veg are good. So an omelette with salad or trick yourself by having something like a carrot and swede mash on cottage pie instead of potatoes.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Still trying to type on my phone.
Lovely by the diet tips. My next challenge. Lol I’m not happy with my blood sugar levels so I really need to get a grip.
You are all doing so well you put me to shame. It at least I hVe a fridge freezer now so I can shop and eat properly. Still a bit hit and miss with cooker. It’s all gas and I’m not keen on the oven.
Money. Sounds like you are doing really well. Your approach to fabbinG is very stetemnatic and thorough. Well done you.
I’m off to acupuncture this morning. I’m loving our Indian summer. Don’t know how long it’s going to last but I’m going to make the most of it ......try and get the garden a bit straighter before the weather breaks and keeping on top of the washing. I need to get a tumble dryer soon. One of my must haves I’m afraid. Can’t stand washing hanging around. One of my pet peeves. Lol.
Hope you’re feeling a bit better today sugarbaby.
Have a great day.......0 -
Ps. Meant to say I’ve discovered a nice salon just 5 minute walk away. Had my hair done there and a massage. Got another massage booked fir tomorrow. Sounds extravagant but massage is the best for me at managing Fibro and reducing pain and it’s a lot cheaper here then the city centre. I don’t recommend moving house for Fibro. Lol.
Missing my soaks in bath though. Hoping the plumber can do the bathroom fairly soon.0 -
Thanks re the "systematic and thorough":D
Yep...I've got a folder with different sections made out re body and clothes.
One of yesterday's tasks was to go through the "My size (ie currently too small)" clothes in my wardrobe and I've got a checklist of what I've got and what the gaps are in that wardrobe. Mentally running through what will go with what - for instance part of recent spending spree was a beady sorta necklace in blue and "colours" that I think will oomph up a basic blue jeans/teeshirt/new long-length blue cardigan I've just bought. My aim is one or two strategic accessories with any outfit I wear to add a "little je ne sais quoi". Got in mind one or two accessorising ideas I've not ever seen on British women - but I think they will look nice.
On that note - time for another diet lunch.0 -
I agree with you on the washing hanging around LL. This summer's been brilliant for drying outdoors but when that's not possible I do use my tumble drier when I have to. It can ruin d!cor hanging things on radiators plus I don't think 'Chinese Laundry' is a good interior design look.;)
I used the drier yesterday but just for a short time. I was a bit slow getting the washing out in the morning so I just finished off towels and pants in the drier.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »Thanks re the "systematic and thorough":D

Interesting post money. I love lists and folders. They seem to organise the mind and motivate me.
How have you presented your memoirs LL? Is it all written or illustrated? I've got a box of family photos that I inherited as the eldest. I want to at least annotate them, so looking for ideas.
French women (at least some of the city dwellers) are excellent at accessorising. Coloured shoes and scarves come to mind. That being said, it's not true of all French women. Over the years of visiting France I've seen more and more tat in the shops and many older women wearing synthetic dresses and cropped short back and sides hair dos, generally dyed red.:(
It's recycling day tomorrow and (at last) I sorted through a pile of magazines that I wanted to look through before throwing away. I extracted a couple of recipes but honestly they've just been cluttering up the sitting room far too long.:o I've also put some old, large tablecloths in the CS bag. I never use a cloth on the dining table as it's octagonal and if I ever needed to cover the one in the conservatory then I've got Turkish towels that would do nicely. MK would be proud of me.:)
I'm out for a meeting tonight but seeing friends first for a meal and drink. It's smart casual so I'll wear my black jeans but I think a thin jumper is called for and probably ballet flats.moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »On that note - time for another diet lunch. It's only a diet in the literal sense. Well I’ve had it with Talk Talk. Cancelled my order with them my son will sort something out for me soon. Bless him. He started his college course today. He loves it. He will be both working and studying. He’s aiming for a 6 day week. A bit much in my opinion but he’s going to give it a go at least until Christmas.
So neither of my boys had any real time to help me much. Do today I contacted a handy man. He actually turned up to quote fir the first job. Finishing clearing and then replanting the front garden. Hopefully next week.
Will see how we go. If he’s good and reliable then I shall engage him fir dome inside work too.

Manan. So far my memoirs are the written word. I will add some photos. When my husband did his he did it more like a photo book, with just short passages of writing broken up with pictures. Very effective. He couldn’t really sit and write for long so it was a good format for him.
I still haven’T sorted out my photos yet. I just couldn’t. Too painful but I think I can do it now.
I wrote the first 30 years a couple of years ago but couldn’t face writing about my husband until now. Then all of a sudden, once I settled in to my new house,I found I wanted to do it.
I know it sounds a bit new age hippy dippy but my house move does seem to have been a turning point in my widows journey I feel free and happy. All the bad stuff now just a distant memory. It’s been cathartic.
It also occurred to me that my grandson and any other grandchildren will never know their English grandfather and if I die before they are grown up then their source of knowledge about their history will be gone.
I did write about my husbands illness. I felt it was important ......just in case .....
Anyway it’s done and it’s a weight off my shoulders.

One of my Grandads siblings wrote their memoirs and it was fascinating. They grew up aboard and now all live i. Different countries, but it was nice to read up on all the different family members. The relative who wrote the memoirs lived in another country and I found out, through the memoirs that we went to the same University!
Maman I love the idea of covering your table with a peshtemal towel. What a great tip.
Speaking of tables, my new dining suite is coming tomorrow and I am very excited. We ordered a table, chairs and sideboard. Plus, because we had spent a certain amount, we got some free (ahem) gifts and chose a couple of mirrors. We inherited our table from my Mum when we moved into our home and she was given it by someone else. Its very old fashioned, but we werent in a position to buy one.
I do actually have a table cloth for it, which I bought in Greece last year, as we had planned on getting a new table. I forgot I had it until recently. In fact, that has reminded me to buy a table protector. I would love to not have one, but I think I will need one at least until the children are a bit older.0 -
Hello everyone
Just checking in to say I won't be posting for the next three weeks. I can read on my ipad but for some reason it won't recognise my password for this site to allow me to post. I've changed the password and know it's correct but to no avail. Nobody seems to know how to fix it.
Anyway, we're off to beautiful Northumberland for three relaxing weeks. Staying in Edinburgh overnight on Friday. I've booked a table at a nice little Italian restaurant for dinner. I hope the weather will be better than it is here today. Heavy rain and grey. Never mind, though. It's only water.
So, I'll keep up with all your going ons and see you in three weeks time.
Take care.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0
