Lessons pleased to see you are well.

Humpty great news on the wedding outfit.

Maman and Silva I also have problems with fixed waists, because I am short, high waisted and put weight on around my middle. I find that dropped waists suit me.

I picked up a bargain today, which was some trainers (sports lux, not ones for exercise) reduced from £145 to £79, using some birthday money. I wouldnt have paid full price for them though. I happened to come across them when I was browsing on line and they only had them in my size so I snapped them up.

We had the electrician around today and he replaced all of our traditional plug sockets with ones that include USB ports as well as traditional plug sockets. I was saying to OH that the house feels super modern now. If you are in a household with lots of electronic devices like phones, tablets, lap tops etc, I would recommend investing in them when the time comes. We were always running out of plug points and now we can charge 4 items from one double socket of needed.

Hope everyone is enjoying the glum weather.

Humpty - brilliant!! Really pleased for you. I was thinking about you earlier today and your comment that you are always in jeans (I'm the same!) I did wonder if a really nice 'Jump Suit' with a jacket would look nice - I've seen some that look really 'upmarket' but so glad you've got something you like that fits (and a bargain ;) )

Just a thought - get a bag with a long shoulder strap - clutch bags are a B nuisance when you WILL be asked to hold things!

Good tip, I'll remember that when I go hunting. I've sent DD a link to the dress and jacket and she loves it so all is good.

Good to see you LL. Thanks for popping in.:)

The trainers sound great chanie.:) I don't normally wear trainers but I'm thinking of getting some and, like you, not for exercise. We've booked a trip to India for February (my present to DH for his birthday) and I thought they might be useful as there'll be quite a bit of walking involved. I was wondering about Skechers. I want them to look good but they must be light and comfortable.

Your home sounds really high tech now. I hadn't thought of having USB ports fitted. That's a great idea as we always seem to have gadgets charging up all over the place.

So pleased you liked the outfit when it arrived humpty. What colour shoes and bag are you thinking of? Will you wear a hat/fascinator?

I have 3 jumpsuits, 2 are sort of evening wear and the other is a summery one. I don't think I'd wear one to a wedding though. I found it a pain wriggling out of mine on Thursday for every call of nature. ;)

Maman I bet will be amazing. I think sketchers will be a good bet, as they are lightweight, comfy and wont stand out too much. I am forever indebted to your sketchers recommendation and I mine.

I must have been living in denial because we have way more clutter than I thought we did. Today, OH pulled out three boxes of DVDs which were hiding under the stairs. I tried to convince OH that we should sell them, but he isnt budging. I looked a few of them up on music mAgpie and some were coming up for under 20p, so hardly worth it. I did manage to clear out a miscellaneous box containing, amongst other things, 2 crucifixes, the children’s baptism candles, 5 photo frames, a couple of wooden statues (including one of Ganesh) some blank cds and a friendship chain. It was a rather strange assortment of items.

Chanie - we are in the process of updating our kitchen/ dining room and I didn't think of changing the plugs - will do now! Thank you ;)
Have booked for a 10 day holiday to Greece next year. Hold baggage is an expensive extra so going to try to pack everything in my overhead case - gonna be a challenge but I'm sure I can do it!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • maman I won't be wearing a hat, I think my hatred of hats goes back to wear them at school. My DD is happy with that, she said it wouldn't be her mum in a hat.

My outfit is navy, coral and white. I'm thinking of getting a coral bag and navy shoes. Not sure if I can match the coral so might have to rethink it. I think navy shoes and bag might be a bit dark so I'm hoping I can crack the coral bag.

I like the look of skechers but haven't actually tried them yet.
  • Hello Ladies,

I took my son to his Urbanest student accommodation last Tuesday. We had to take a mini cab because we had so many bags, his boxed laptop and a suitcase full of his clothes. As he is only in Westminster it means he can come home as often as he wants or come home to drop off his dirty washing and pick up more clothes etc. He had to call me for advice on how to use the oven on the cooker in the kitchen that he shares with 2 other students because it was electric. :) I have always preferred gas cookers.

He really enjoyed Freshers week but from Monday he will start his degree in earnest. :D

Having a woman only home now, you can really feel the difference in the dynamic of the my home. I am loving the added space and freedom. My youngest child i out in the world starting his own personal journey as a young adult and I am so proud of him and my other 3 adult children.

LL I am glad that you were able to pop in and say hello.

Humpty well done on finding the perfect dress for you. :D

Chanie your house fabbing is coming along great and as you are sharing with us all we can all gain new knowledge as per the sockets. :T

I went to the pub last night for a night of dancing. I had a great time by myself. :D I had a few admirers but I was polite and disinterested. All the male attention was flattering though. :D I had to wear my M & S coat and my Van Dal black leather ankle boots with my red scarf and red leather gloves with my outfit because it was cold and drizzling when I left home. I layered my perfume with the matching body powder and body lotion and also wore black mascara, bronze brown eye shadow, clear nail polish and clear lip gloss.

Hi gals and guys ! I mention the guys specifically because it aint fair to leave them out. Some want and defo some NEED a thread like this ! I used to be a snappy dresser and looked after myself but recently, well maybe a year or three, have dropped the ball. I want a recommendation for a body brush, does it matter what price? is paying more worth it?
I mean to start from the basics and work my way out. I am carrying more weight round my middle than I ever have before, made to look worse as my legs are still very slim, verging on skinny but still well shaped. The skin on my body has become dry and I'm seeing signs of cellulite that I dont think I ever had. I will go back to college, not to study but to avail myself of the cut price beauty treatments on offer, love a good pamper, and get the finger and toenails sorted out i'e. painted and manicured, and try for the lash lift and tint which make a big difference without putting on mascara everyday, which invariably ends up under my eyes undermining the whole idea of fabulosity. My friend has a surplus of dry skin cream from the docs, so will get that slapped on regularly until I'm soft enough to use scented lovely cream. I will let you know how I get on.

I didn't really feel like fabbing when I got up yesterday but I made the effort and went to meet our friends. I am so glad I did. They commented on how nice I looked and that gave me a great boost.

Having to avoid wearing perfume at the moment in case it aggravates the skin on my arms. I'm hoping that this will be a temporary state of affairs. I've got used to smelling fabulous!!

Hi Toni'sfriend, can you not put something in your pockets that smells of your fave scent ? then you can smell nice without the agro of itchy skin.

I've long held to the "cost per wear" theory. It makes a lot of sense to me.

I recently bought a few cheapie (ie £5 a go or thereabouts) teeshirts at cheap shops - just to do me until I'm back to correct weight. I'm certainly not going to spend much on "temporary" clothing. I've only worn one of those teeshirts 3 or 4 times and it's just gone in the wash - and it already looks a bit "bobbly" and like it needs replacing.

Yep...those calf boots and the handbag were both not far short of £200 - but I reckon I'll get a lot of wear from them.

I was sitting people-watching a couple of times recently and analysing to see what "lessons to learn" or "things to copy" from them. Then it struck me why a couple of people have commented to me over the years about A.N. Other we both know that "Their clothes aren't cheap...." and I thought "How can you tell?". Sitting there people-watching and daylight began to dawn at the visible difference in quality I could see on different people.

Bring back the days when Marks & Spencers sold reasonable quality clothes:(. I remember when I bought a basic navy blazer type jacket from them MANY years ago and I think it can't have been that far short of £100. Go in there these days and I spotted ones in similar style - and I wouldn't even look at them personally - as I could see from feet away why they are now only about £30 from there. You could tell a mile off that they were very cheap fabric/cheaply cut/etc these days:(. Not quite sure how much inflation would have added to the cost in the time since - but I would have thought an equivalent quality one would now cost between £200-£300?? and personally I'd rather pay that and it would be in their former better quality.

I agree with most of what you say about quality, buying out of season is my favourite thing. The problem is some shops are selling high cost, low quality garments now. A hundred years ago a young lady I worked with (she was quite posh, and in a higher position) who always dressed really well, gave me cause to rethink things. I was on a very strict budget at the time and shopped regularly in, if anyone still remembers, What Every Woman Wants. I happened upon this young lady shopping there ! I am not ashamed to say I stalked her through the store for a while paying attention to what she was buying lol. In the coming weeks I saw her wearing some of the garments to work, I had to look hard as they didnt look quite the same but much better, thanks to the way she wore them and with what accessories she added. I wish I had her vision as I am rubbish at it lol.
