  • I've bitten the bullet and ordered it. I could only order it in one colour, there were two I liked but the jacket wasn't available so my colour was chosen for me. I'm crossing my fingers as I hate clothes shopping so this will be a big relief if it is all sorted. All I need then will be shoes (a whole new nightmare) and a bag which isn't such a big deal.

Forgot to say I got 1/3 off so quite a good saving.

Well done on buying your outfit. I love Roman Originals. There is one in our local House Of Fraser, which is closing. Don't know if Roman will go anywhwere else in the city :(

We have a stand alone shop in my city. I don't shop there myself but I know people who love it. It's so hard these days to know which traders are going to last. Even John Lewis has posted awful financial results this year. I think part of the problem is that many department stores have cut staff and so customer service and people have questioned what extra they offer. Ironically places like Primark and Aldi have lots of staff and they're doing really well. I'd say that shows the 'names' are cutting corners on the wrong things.

I hope it is a good fit, I lost some weight because I was ill but still have a bit of middleaged spread in my middle. I'm hulahooping for ten minutes a day and in the last month my waist has gone down an inch so I'm hoping I am in proportion and don't have to have it baggy on the bust and hips.

I didn't know Roman, as I said we don't have a local one and I'm not into fashion I do most of my clothes shopping in Sainsbury's or Asda. I think I should sell the dress and jacket I bought for son's wedding 6 years ago, it has just been hanging in the wardrobe. It was quite expensive from Monsoon, well expensive for me.

It is coming tomorrow so we will see.

They do have some nice things on line, of course you can't tell from photos.

I think you are right about some of the big stores, they are living on past glory.

I found a beautiful dress in Tesco last year! It's just a slim style but it's darted with no waist seam. I'm tall and dresses with waist seams end up too high for my waist and look wrong and feel uncomfortable. It's dark navy with sprigs of flowers in a peachy colour. I teamed it with a little fine knit navy 3/4 sleeve cardigan and navy mesh heeled sandals. I wore it for a big family wedding anniversary It looked very smart and one of my younger nieces complimented me!
Humpty if you know you will never wear the monsoon outfit again then sell it. It will just be taking up wardrobe space and the longer you leave it it may not be fashionable. One thing I learnt from the Kondo thread - it's dead money that's been spent and there's no value to be gained in keeping some things.

Funnily enough I bought a purple, jersey shift from Tesco a few years ago. It was brilliant with a purple, velvet coat I've got (from Primark) and it took me to a number of weddings.

I have the same problem as you with fixed waists. I returned an animal print dress to Sainsbury's this week as it looked ridiculous with the waist too high.

Apparently, retailers were citing MK as one of the reasons they are not selling as much. While I don't follow here slavishly I'm 100% behind needing to keep only the things I'm 100% sure of. I think I'm more William Morris than MK. To paraphrase: If it's not beautiful or useful, it's clutter!:D

I'm going to spend some time today clearing up paperwork and getting a bit organised and possibly some batch cooking. I started by activating a Virgin Experience gift voucher I'd been given back in March as it was almost due to run out:eek:. We've chosen a Jack the Ripper Tour in London so all we need to do now is fix a day then we can plan around it.

Have a good day all. Shame LL's broadband is taking so long to fix. I'd love to know how her move went.:)
  • Had to come and tell you my parcel arrived. I only ordered the smaller size as they didn't have the 12 in both the dress and the jacket. It fits like a glove, maybe shows my tummy just a little but hopefully 6 months with my hulahoop with slim that down and if not a pair of spanx might be the answer.

Silvasave thank you so much for the tip about searching for wedding guest not mother of the bride, it made all the difference.

It is really well made, lovely fabric and fully lined and with a third off a real bargain.

What a relief to have that worry dealt with, now for the bag and shoes!

Humpty - brilliant!! Really pleased for you. I was thinking about you earlier today and your comment that you are always in jeans (I'm the same!) I did wonder if a really nice 'Jump Suit' with a jacket would look nice - I've seen some that look really 'upmarket' but so glad you've got something you like that fits (and a bargain ;) )

Just a thought - get a bag with a long shoulder strap - clutch bags are a B nuisance when you WILL be asked to hold things!

  • Hi everyone just a quickie to let you know I’m alive and kicking. Still no broadband so trying to type this on my phone. I’ll be back soon.

    Xx
