Have a great holiday TF. I do hope this beautiful autumnal weather holds out for you. You're a real asset to our thread. It's been amazing reading about your progress in the past few weeks. Come back refreshed and raring to go!:)
You're house fabbing is going really well chanie. Hope you're delighted with your dining set when it arrives. I'm so pleased to hear about your young family wanting a table to sit and eat at. It says so much.:)
This is the Matalan plate that I posted about:
Obviously not essential but a good guide.
I've made an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed this afternoon so that'll be my main fabbing for today. I'm trying the Benefit bar in our local John Lewis. Previously I've used the one in Winchester Debenhams but there seems to have been an exit of the usual staff so I thought I'd try more local to home instead. I plan to have my nails done tomorrow as well. We're going to an anniversary party on Saturday evening so I want to look my best.:)
Thanks for the info on the memoirs. Interestingly my brother has been in touch because he's part of a Facebook page for the Primary school we went to. He sent me class photos for my year and his (2 years behind) and he's amazed that I remember so many names. I've promised to look out some photos for him and then hopefully that will get me going on the 'memoirs'. What I'd really like to achieve is to annotate all the old photos I've inherited so they mean something to the next generation.0 -
Maman. Yes definitely a good idea to catalogue the photos. My sister did our parents ones years ago. It’s amazing how you forget when and where photos were taken .....well I do.
TF. Have a fabulous holiday. The weather is wonderful, Scotland will be glorious.
Well my pet plumber came. I love that man. Apart from the fact that he’s like a big blonde 6ft 4 Viking he has such great money saving Ideas and, more importantly, he always passes his trade discount on to me for the materials we need. Bless him.
Anyway I have decided to go for a new boiler more or less straight away because whilst the boiler is ok the currrent system is inefficient. I’ll also upgrade the loft insulation whilst we are at it. It is inadequate.
Then he will install a nice glamorous new bathroom next June whilst I’m on holiday. I have thought about the kitchen and, although I’m not wild about the gas oven it is in good shape and I’m beginning to get used to it. (I have never had a gas oven in my life lol). The rest of the appliances are in good nick so I have decided to live with the kitchen for a while and just paint the units to give them a new lease of life and it should be good for another couple of years.
So basically just taking it slowly and gently so I can keep a tight rein on the budget.
Chanie. I meant to say I definitely agree with upgrading sockets to include
Charging units as and when you need or want to replace them. I did that in the last house. Makes life a lot easier especially for families when you have lot of electronic gizmos. Sounds like you are making good progress.
Had a nice massage today. Feeling much better.0 -
Great idea to start with the boiler LL. The last thing you want is inefficient heating through the winter so it's the best place to start. You'll have plenty of time to plan for your luxury bathroom too.:)
I read today that there's going to be a programme on at the weekend on ITV which is the first to be sponsored/full product placement. It sounds like a mix of Blind Date and Homes under the Hammer!:D It'll probably be awful but I might record one to see the interiors. It's sponsored by Dunhelm.
Very pleased with my eyebrows and also had them tinted. I'll certainly go there again. Also it was a great idea to go midweek when it's quiet. They volunteered to do my make up for me afterwards. A bit heavier than I'd do myself as I'm not wearing foundation yet but great to watch them use the bronzer and blusher. I didn't buy any products today but I will go back for a gift set they have.

It's a full size moisturiser so all the other bits come to about £5 so well worth it if a bit extravagant.
While I was in the city centre I browsed a bit. Tried on some jeggings in White Stuff: matt black and black velvet. They felt good on but I think I might be satisfied with something cheaper so I'll keep looking. My current 'best' black jeans are from Asda and there really isn't that much difference other than the label.;)
I walked through M&S and got an orange, fine cotton beach cover up. Pleased with that at £8 as I've got an orange bikini. I'd seen it at £18 and thought it was a bit much. They have sale rails in there: a few nice bits but loads of their usual mistakes.
It's been the most glorious autumn day here. Sunny and 20 degrees. Hoping for more tomorrow.:)
:wave:hope you're feeling better sugarbaby.0 -
Whew! That's me with a new exercise session each week lined-up. A type of dance I've not tried before. Went to it for the first time ever today.
Apparently the person who teaches it tends to revert to very slow and "basic" stuff when a new person turns up. I'm told to take it as a compliment that they didn't do so when I turned up - and it was as "fast and furious" as normal. Whew!!! Guess that's what comes from being used to "swinging your !!! around" anyway:rotfl:
Bit unfortunate that another new-to-me form of dance I started recently happens the day after (albeit not this week) and so I shall be spending two days in a row shattered each week I guess...gotta be good for the calorie burning...0 -
TF hope you have a lovely trip & the weather is kind to you. Personally I much prefer this lovely mild autumnal warmth we're enjoying at the moment as the intense summer heat is a bit too much for me.
Maman oooh Winchester now I'm jealous. I love Winchester, the history & the atmosphere. It's my fantasy 'move to ' location. I took my 13yr old DD a couple of times on the train during the summer hols as she's a bit of a history nerd. We're already getting excited about visiting the Christmas market outside the Cathedral as we've never been before. The Matalan plate looks interesting I think i might print a picture of it & put it in the kitchen as reference when I'm preparing meals. More MSE than actually buying the plate!:rotfl:
LL you seem to be settling in well to your new home. If you don't mind me asking did your plumber recommend a particular brand of boiler? I need to replace mine soon and I'm trying to decide which to go for. Not sure if you're going to be doing any painting but I've recently discovered Wilko paint pads with great success. Quicker than a brush but without the 'spray' you sometimes get with a roller. I recently painted a chest of drawers in Ronseal Chalky furniture paint in Dove Grey and was very impressed with the results. It doesnt need a protective wax coat on top like some other chalk paints.
Hope you're feeling better Sugarbaby.
On fabbing front I'm getting there. Managed to comfortably fit in to pair of Next jeans that had been too tight for the last 9 years!! Hopefully not all progress will take this long now I am a more determined fabber.
Keep up the good work ladies. You're an inspiration.0 -
Hi fabbers, our dining room furniture arrived today and we have set it all up, so it’s finalky starting to look like a dinning room. I dug out some place mats and coasters I bought when we bought our house 9 years ago, but never used them. By coincidence, they match the room, so I am pleased I didnt kondo them.
The furniture came i huge boxes and The children were delighted to come home and play with them. They built a tower-house with them.
I put our old suite for sale online and we didnt get ant takers. We thought about putting it in the shed and trying to sell it to a second hand furniture shop, but we both agreed that we probably would never get around to it, so we just stuck it outside with a sign on. Someone will take it.0 -
Had an idea humpty that you could wear those nude shoes with your outfit. If you're not up for the stilettos that the Duchesses wear, I noticed that M&S have nude wedges in the sale. They might be worth a look.:)
Good news about the dining furniture chanie . You're home is really coming together. What's next?0 -
Grrr. I hate typing on this phone. Just managed a post and then lost it.
Lucy sorry forgot the make of boiler. Plumber away now on a fishing trip. Won’t hear from him till end of next week. When I do I will let you know. Remind me if I forget.
Looks like we are in for some fine weather for
the next few days. I’m going to continue to concentrate on the outside. The garden still needs taming and I can’t see out of the windows. :rotfl:
Started exercising again yesterday. I ache all over but I’m determined this time. Money. It’s your fault you made me feel guilty. Lol.
Chanie. It sounds like your house fabbing is really coming together. Exciting.
I e got friends coming over tomorrow. He’s a semi retired builder I won’t ask him to do any of my work but I do like to pick his brains. He always has good ideas and money saving suggestions.
Another vote for nude shoes here. I bought some last year. I find them a great wardrobe standby.
Sugarbaby. Hope you are feeling a bit better0 -
Hi Fab People.
Glad you are settling in LLand I agree the heating system needs to work. It was about the only thing that DID work when we bought our bungalow, although we still replaced a couple of rads - a new one in the sitting room just because it looked better, a vertical one in the kitchen because a horizontal one wouldn't fit in our plan, and one incorporating a towel rail in the bathroom.
We had the place rewired, and how I wish we had incorporated charging sockets! I think we will change a couple as there is always phones or tablets or cameras or torches queuing up in the kitchen to be charged at the one spare socket(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
