I didn't know my Aunt Vera very long as I was adopted as a baby and only found my birth Mother and Aunt in 2012. Vera died at the start of 2015.

She obviously loved you a lot , I also was left a house as a inheritence from my Uncle . Complete shock . as i never ever expected it to come to me , and other family members were fuming. and still bitter about it , But my Uncle actually wrote in his will that he was leaving it to me because i had been there for him , and his own family was not . ( He was my Aunts husband , so not my own blood line if you know what i mean ) , Its been a life changer and a life saver for us , and im sure you know what i mean , Weve been very blessed by the kindness of others

We certainly have, and I still say thankyou to Vera on a regular basis. Your comment that she must have loved me, made me cry.

    Another story about her.

She was a practising Christian, the only immediate member of either of my families, birth or adoptive, to be so. As I am also, this meant a lot to me, as I'm sure you can imagine.

When we were coming back from her funeral, a 'video' started playing in my head. Now some Christians get things like this on a regular basis, but I am not the mystical sort and never have been, these things don't happen to me.

I saw my Aunt Vera, as a young woman, but still recognisably her, in a fuchsia red dress, dancing in a field of flowers. She had her arms spread out and was twirling around and around. She had her face uplifted, and the sun was shining on it and she was radiant, with a lovely smile. I knew straight away she was telling me she had come home. It was not like a dream, it was far more real, it was wonderful.

Then of course the bathos set in. I really felt I should tell my mother Doris about it, as it was her sister. We were still in the funeral car, coming back after the funeral. Anyway she is deaf, so I told her into her 'good' ear (luckily I was sitting on the correct side!). However, she didn't hear, so I had to say it again, more loudly. Bearing in mind there were other people in the car - I ended up having to virtually bellow it and all and sundry heard. They must have thought I'd gone crazy! In the end my mother just said 'oh yes, very nice' :rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Just to say again Ta Vera and enjoy the dancing.

Thanks for posting about your uncle moll. Both yours and 7DW's stories are so heart warming. It's good to know that there are such good, kind people out there, wherever they may be.:)

I'm reading about the tips for down days with interest. I wasn't exactly down yesterday but the weather was so appalling that there weren't many choices of how to spend the day. I ended up reading and then watching some early Morse programmes on TV along with cooking and listening to the radio. Not the most exciting day but I was happy enough.

I must admit that I'm not one to drool over dishy film stars. I really don't understand what people see in Daniel Craig for example. The actors I liked when I was younger, I still like: John Thaw, Martin Shaw, John Nettles and Denis Waterman (although he went down in my estimation:().

One thing I must do through the winter is make myself get out in the fresh air. Perhaps I'll start making a list. I like lists!:D

Dancing this evening, last of the summer classes before new term starts next week. I'll wear one of my skirts, probably a White Stuff one with a short sleeved top.

Weather is so much better today. It's dry, reasonably warm and the sun is even out sporadically.:)

A weight loss question - I know that people who are carrying larger amounts of excess weight find their shoe size goes down when they lose it.

Now I know I've got feet that are size 5.5 and standard width (ie the "real" standard width - width C in Clarks shoe shops and not the D they now call standard width instead).

I've got a shopping trip or two coming up soon and checking out websites and found a pair of suede type ankle boots that I fancy as replacements for a pair of trainers that have "had it".

As they arent cheap ones - ie £100 - then I wonder whether someone who just has to go from 2010's size 14 back down to "real size" 14 is okay to buy them - or whether I'd find that ones that felt correct to me now would feel too big once I am back to real size 14?

(Yep...it's one thing monitoring the fit of clothes one currently has - as the weight comes off. But I don't want to risk throwing away £100 to find they are going to prove too big for me when....).

On that note I'm okay again in a "label size 14" (ie real size 18) dress I have - so I know that's going to have be sent to charity shop once I'm back to "real size 14".

Not bothered about a label size 12 (ie real size 16) dress I bought pretty recently becoming too big for me at some point - at this moment I'm still slimming my way back into that and think I should be able to wear it soon now. That dress was just £5 from a car boot sale - so having to give that to a charity shop at some point it won't bother me too much if I only land up being able to wear it for a matter of weeks.

Fingers crossed I'll stand a reasonable chance now of "getting back to normal" - as I reckon the first time I was noticing the need to buy bigger clothes seemed to coincide with when a period of noticeable stress started. I could almost date how the "life stress" was going by my bras going from 36C to 38C to 40C to 42C. It was a VERY VERY prolonged period indeed - ie I'd say around 25 years or so and only really has come to an end at last (fingers crossed) about 2 years ago. So I guess that stress hormone cortisol might have been a large part of why the weight gain happened....??and hopefully my body has stopped producing that now.

    Hello Ladies,

7DW and Moll thank you for sharing your stories about your inheritance. Both of your relatives were wise and left the bequests to both of you because they knew you were the most deserving of their largess. The gratitude and the humility that you both have shown, shows that they made the right decision. :D

7DW what a beautiful tale about your vision of your Aunt as her younger self. She wanted you to know absolutely that she had gone to a better place and her spirit was now free and happy. :D

I went on a date with Wayne on Saturday night. He spent approximately 30 minutes in my company throughout the 3 hours and 30 minutes that we were in the pub. :( Suffice to say that his repentance was short lived and I am not willing to give him any more chances. :D

I was getting a lot of admiration from other men, and that was the only reason Wayne spent any time with me at all, just to make it clear to my male admirers, that he was 'with' me. ;) Jealousy is such an ugly emotion and Wayne is a terrible sufferer. Well at least now he is no longer my problem. :D

I had such a great time dancing in the pub on my own all night. :D I decided at the end of the evening that I simply did not want to spend any more time in Wayne's company. So I took the usual 2 buses home rather than accept a lift home in his car. I was not suitably dressed for the cold weather but I was so tired of Wayne.

I wore perfume and layered it with the matching body powder and body lotion. I wore my brown Coast chiffon lined skirt, my M & S brown sleeveless cotton ruffle v-neck top with my M & S lightweight brown jacket with 3 hook and eye fastenings with my red flower embellished Van Dal wedge sling back sandals and I was carrying my red Osprey hand bag. I wore solid gold jewellery with my gold plated Tissot watch. I wore a brown sparkly eye shadow, black mascara, clear nail polish and clear lip gloss.

I am having a lazy day at home and catching up with recorded TV programmes and reading today. I do feel that Bank Holidays are lovely indulgent days in which I can pamper myself. :D

Money.....a friend of mine lost around 4.5 stones, she went down a shoe size and had to have her rings altered.

Maman Still pretty cold and miserable here but the good news is the forecast looks better for later in the week. I don't think we've quite finished with summer just yet.

Moll & SDW. Lovely stories about your gifts from your families....there are some truly lovely people around.

Getting back to winter days......I actually don't mind winter at all. I think every season has its delights. I don't mind curling up by the fire on a dark winters night, listening to the elements rage outside. As long as the house is warm and cosy I'm happy. And I love the cold crisp sunny days, it's when the dark dismal dreich days go on for what seems like an eternity that it gets to me. I think perhaps we get a lot of those in the Midlands. We don't get extremes of snow or gales but we do get a lot of damp, cold foggy weather.

For the last few winters I have made a point of taking a winter sunshine holiday, and of course when my husband was well we used to swan off to Our apartment in Spain. I haven't booked anything for this winter, mainly due to the house move, but I'll keep an open mind. Although to be honest I think I'm going to be quite busy. And I do have my big Iceland trip booked for Next June. But, never say never....I might just decide to take off at the last minute. Lol.

I have had a quiet weekend, and my tummy has finally settled again after my nice rest. Also gone back to strict paleo, drastically reducing dairy and have gone back to lacto free milk. Seems to have done the trick. :D

    Oh Wayne:eek:. He'll never learn.

To try to answer your question money, my feet got a bit smaller but not really enough to drop a size comfortably. I think what happens is that when you're overweight you manage to 'spread' your shoes so making them bigger. I don't think it'll be a problem with boots so I'd go for your normal size. You're likely to wear socks with them anyway.

That being said, I tried on some shoes last week in M&S. I was just drawn to the gold colour but they came only in the Extra Wide range. I tried them on and I definitely needed a smaller size but these were pumps so would have fallen off if too big. You wouldn't have that issue with boots.

SUgarbaby.......Oh dear....that Wayne. :rotfl: It's not a word I like to use when describing another human being......but really .....what a total loser. I'm sure he probably has some redeeming points but maybe not enough to outweigh the bad ones.....;). But I guess it's up to you.

I notice a speed dating event is coming to Derby next week. You have to be under 35 though......:rotfl:

If that is something they would do for over 50s then that is definitely something I would consider. You get about 15 mins to chat with someone, so not really a "date" just an introduction. I don't know but it seems A bit more "real" and authentic than internet dating. I tried a couple of internet sites but no joy. :rotfl:

I really don't know what to say, Sugarbaby. I don't know you that well. But good for you for leaving him and going home on your own. Love the sound of your outfit.
LL - I'm a bit like you. Love listening to the rain battering against the window and cold crisp frosty days.
Well, I haven't managed any more walks. We started out yesterday but the rain came pouring down and we had to turn back. Today I was waiting in for a workman so couldn't plan anything until he eventually arrived by which time it was too late.
Eating lots of fruit and veg and generally healthy food. No thanks to himself who bought me two of the most chocolatey puddings you could ever hope to see as a treat. Nice thought but he's eating them himself. I sound ungrateful. I'm not but I don't think he has a clue of what is calorific and what's not.
So still keeping up the routine. Thanks for the support.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

    Hello Ladies,

TF thank you. I felt really good in that outfit even though I have put on weight. :)

I can not afford to wait until I have lost a lot more weight to continue to enjoy my life. I have to grab the opportunities as they are presented to me, because in the future my 3 types or Arthritis will inevitably make life difficult for me.

Wayne asked for one more chance. He got it. He disrespected me again. End of Wayne.

My grandson has promised to come and visit us tomorrow. I am going to my local Odeon in the evening with my daughter as well. :D

I have regained a few pounds of the weight I had lost. :( I had a good look through my food diary and could see that I had slipped back into too much unhealthy snacking. I need to get back on track and try to fit more exercise into my daily life without over doing it. I am determined to look a lot better by next April when I will be going on my Caribbean holiday with 3 of my sisters. :D My meals were on the healthy side in the main and I eat smaller meals, but I have to get my snacking back under control.

I made homemade chicken fried rice for our dinner today. I find the local Chinese takeaway version far too fatty and salty.

I booked theatre tickets for myself and my 2 sisters to see Dreamgirls today. My sister H will be giving me back the money as she agreed to pay, but I was able to get them cut price and saved her £103.50. :D We will be sitting in row D, so we will have a great view of the action as it unfolds on stage. :j

The temperature has really dropped, so I think I will have to wear boots soon. I bought new Van Dal boots in the summer months from eBay when they were being sold very cheaply. I was surprised to find I had actually bought 3 pairs. I tried them on and decided which pair to wear as my everyday pair. :D
