That's brilliant!:rotfl:
We don't have a house name, just a standard number. I'm glad you've taken time to choose LL. Will you have a special plaque made? My DD has a really lovely slate one. She has a daffodil on hers to show her Welsh heritage (or maybe it's a dragon??).
When we last moved LL, I emptied cupboards, cleaned them and then packed the contents in a box and replaced the box inside the cupboard until moving day. I still have the lovely letter our buyer sent thanking me for leaving the house so clean for him to move in. It's a treasured possession as I do very little housework so it's a rare compliment.:D
TF, I find with my serum that if my skin is particularly dry it soaks it up. Your skin will 'tell' you how much product it needs.
I went to M&S today as it's next door to our large Sainsbury's. I was tempted my a cashmere sweater but it's early days yet for woollies so I can wait.

I also saw a much cheaper possible purchase. Sainsbury's Tu had a simple animal print dress for just £20. I might try that on at my local store when I'm next there.
Dull but dry here. Hope you enjoy your day on the water silva.0 -
:rotfl:You don't want to have my house name then LL.
I like the housename - but I admit I'd be very glad if my house just had a number and so did every other house in the road - instead of names.
I don't understand how many people are supposed to find the house they are looking for in my road - as one can't just walk along going "No 2, No 4, No 6 - a couple of houses time will be the No. 10 I'm looking for". It's walk past a name I cant pronounce & dont understand, then another name ditto, then another name ditto, then one I do understand/can pronounce, back to another one I dont understand/cant pronounce and so on. Most of the houses in the road are "dont understand/cant pronounce" and mine was too at the time I bought it (but I've changed it to a name I was familiar with anyway and do understand).
Every single time anyone comes to my house I have to go into explaining "It was called this and now it's called that, but you won't be able to tell until you see my new nameplate on my house - and I'll have to describe in detail to you how to find it". Oh - if only it was numbers......:rotfl: There's other roads that are also like this as well and one has to resign oneself to walking up one side of the road with a piece of paper in hand with housename on and hope you don't have to walk all the way up that side and then all the way back down the other side before you finally find the house....and that's assuming it's not one of the ones that is even more awkward (ie there isn't even a name to be spotted anywhere).
Mind you there is even worse - several roads with the same name on the one hand/roads without a name at all on the other hand.
I'm so glad I'm not a postperson here...0 -
Good morning lovely ladies.
First the bad news........ more delays, (my buyers onward purchase). Still no contract exchange and then my vendor has requested 2 weeks between exchange and completion. So we are now looking at mid September. She's an elderly lady, pushing 80, and only very recently widowed and needs to take things slowly, so, although it's frustrating, I'm ok with that.
On the positive side.......whilst I am fed up living surrounded by boxes it has taught me one thing........It really is only just "stuff" and I can live quite happily with "less". There is going to be some serious kondoing after I have moved......:rotfl: I reckon I could probably get rid of around 50% of my possessions and not really miss them. I am ready to truly embrace minimalism.
Loving the chat about house names etc.
Money - you made me smile about the struggles of our postal workers and delivery drivers......my sons house is an absolute nightmare to find - smack bang in the city centre but so tucked away no one knows it's there. And the sat nav directions are utterly hopeless. The One way system doesn't help either. :rotfl:
Our old family house was the same. A bland featureless 80s new build set in a tucked away cul de sac. Again no one knew the street was there because you had to go to down the bottom and then take a concealed right fork. It Made our road lovely and quiet.....
I got the directions down to a fine art. I used to tell people make sure you go down to the bottom and take the right hand fork.....you cant miss us because we are the second house on the left with the red door.
The red door was crucial.....because every other house had a brown upvc door. Very practical of course but I decided I wanted the house to stand out so I had a wooden door installed and painted it pillar box red, and painted the garage door to match.
At first the neighbours were a bit taken aback but one by one they all told me they thought it was a brilliant idea, how much they loved it and how next time they needed a new door they would go for colour. Apparently they also used my door as a reference point when giving directions. Next to the house with the red door, or opposite the house with the red door. :rotfl: You gotta laugh.
Dare to be different.
Well thanks to the fact that I really can't pack my life away any further at the moment I am just going to stop fretting, relax and have some fun for a couple of weeks.
Every cloud has a silver lining and although the delays are frustrating at least I now have time to get my hair cut next week, catch up with my fabbing, see friends and family and get out and about.
And make the most of the last of summer.
Have a great day.0 -
Maman....love the sweater..
Ladies.....a question about cashmere. Does it make you itch,
I simply cannot wear wool next to my skin, i have to wear something underneath, like a shirt or sleeved t shirt, a camisole isn't enough because it's my neck and shoulders which get sore and irritated. I can manage cotton knits or silk/cotton blends but that's about it. Anything else needs a layer underneath.
Are cashmere sweaters less itchy.0 -

LL I think so, more soft than itchy xx
I've never had a problem with cashmere LL, it is really soft but then my skin doesn't react to wool so it's hard to say.
Talking about your red door reminded me of this story: We were at a get together with neighbours in our Residents' Association and to identify ourselves we were saying we live at Number X. The response we got was 'Oh, you must live opposite the red wall'. At the time our neighbours had built this hideous breeze block wall across their driveway (mainly to keep their young children safe in garden) and then painted it red. It was an absolutely dreadful eyesore which, of course, everyone had seen and commented on. Fortunately it is long gone now and replaced by a wooden fence with climbers. Much more tasteful.;)
I'm a bit disappointed with the culottes from Zara. As they're really for Autumn/Winter I'd not taken them out of their bag (Zara give a paper carrier) until yesterday when I tried them on again. They're beautifully cut and I love the length but they are incredibly creased which is unusual for a thick fabric. I'm not sure what to do. I definitely wouldn't wear them if they kept creasing. I thought of ironing them and wearing them indoors for a few hours to see what happens but then they might not take them back?? Perhaps I'll try contacting Zara customer services.
It was raining here earlier but now the sun's out.:D0 -
Maman how annoying about your culottes. Have you decided on whether or not to keep them?
Ll how frustrating about the house, but it isnt uncommon. You will br moved soon enough.
I am really intrigued with house names. Having lived in London all my life, I am used to homes with numbers, so I am excited to learn that you can just pick a house name. Like money wrote, I did wonder how people would find the property. In saying that, though, some propertys in London can be difficult to find, when buildings are I converted to homes.
Work on our house is going on and on (and on). MIL said she would pay for some of the works and its Going to be more complicated than we thought. So, we have to get an electrician, then a carpenter then a plasterer. We have the latter two, but need an electrician!! Oh well, we will get there.
Work is getting interesting and I am feeling more settled. I have started to have waking meetings down by the river, which has been lovely due to the nice weather. I dont know what I will do when the weather changes.....
I hope everyone has a nice bank holiday weekend.0 -
I live in a block of 22 maisonettes and we have the weirdest numbering system ever. I'm no 25. Neighbour on the left in 27. Neighbour on the right is 11. I've lost count of the number of people who knock on my door looking for no 13.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0

Hello Ladies,
I am still battling with the pompholyx eczema on my left foot. New blisters keep appearing. I am obviously more stressed than I believe I am at this juncture in my life.
I am back with Wayne. Yes, I decided that I could forgive him after all. I missed all the ways in which he was not a little s!!t. :rotfl:
My grandson who is only 19 years old is convinced he is the Father of a beautiful, really cute baby boy. So here I am a Great Grandmother aged 56!!!!
On Wednesday I saw a preview of the film Lad, A Yorkshire Story for free and then I went to my local Odeon to see Swimming with Men which was a Silver Screen showing so only cost me £3 and I got a free cup of tea. I loved both films. Both were great British made films. Both are character driven and Swimming with Men was so laugh out loud funny. There were some brilliantly humorous scenes in Lad, A Yorkshire Story and I love the fact that it is based on a particularly inspiring person from the life of the writer/director. I would give both films 9/10
I now have £1.173.55 in my Caribbean holiday savings account0 -
Wow! Sugarbaby that's a lot of news in one post!
Congratulations on becoming a great grandmother!:T As for Wayne I don't know what to say other than enjoy it.:D
Thanks for the film reviews. I'm thinking I might like The Children Act with Emma Thompson.:)
I called Zara's Customer Services for advice about the culottes. It was an odd conversation. I explained that they are not wearable as they are so creased. After discussion with a manager, they told me that if I ironed them then they wouldn't consider them in saleable condition so I couldn't have a refund! What I've decided to do is try hanging them in the bathroom to see if creases fall out. If they don't then sadly I'm going to have to take them back.:(
I picked up the animal print dress in Sainsbury's yesterday (called in for the 25% off wine offer:D) but it doesn't look right on. The waist of the dress is too high for my natural waist so it looks odd.
I'm determined only to invest in things I really love. I don't mind experimenting and if necessary regifting from the CS but not if I'm spending quite a lot.
It's meant to be a bit cooler today so I've put on a long sleeved grey and white Crew Breton top. Not doing too much. While I can be flexible, I generally do my meal plan and shop for the week. It's just a habit.:)0
