:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well - it's yet another chilly start to the day
here - brrrrrrr!
My goodness you've been mega busy with cooking rose - hope
your annual big family dinner was a huge success yesterday.
never heard of 'Distaff Day' Alfie lol,
something new I've learnt today thanks & love the
pics/info on it all :A :T
Your most welcome fire**fly. :A Today is Plough Monday which
follows on/has links to Distaff Day.
Plough Monday is the name given to the first Monday after January
6th, and it marked the resumption of agricultural work after the
Christmas festivities.
In some areas of England it was common for the farm labourers to
tour the villages with their plough in a money-raising trip, perhaps
with singing, mumming plays and dancing or even parading a
Straw Bear; the participants commonly disguised themselves with
costumes or by blacking their faces with soot, perhaps so that they
could not be identified if they ploughed up the gardens of
householders unwilling to make contributions.
The areas in which the celebrations were most common were in
the east midlands and East Anglia and it is in this area today that
most of the revivals are carried out, often on a weekend in early to
mid January. It was also common for church ceremonies involving
blessing the plough to take place either on Plough Monday or the
Sunday immediately before and some of these have also been
revived.

I love reading/hearing about the revival of customs/traditions in
our country - so very interesting. :T
Have a lovely and lucky day all and please take care whatever
your plans.xx

Alfie great to read your postings very interesting. I am going to pass the links on to the sister of my exDIL in America she has a number of looms and lives out in the sticks in America she will be most interested.
Firefly great to hear from you. Big hugs for this week.
Rose hope you enjoyed your family meal. Sounded delicious.
Shells so pleased to hear your father has had his operation. I was worried about his waiting time after last week when they announced cancelling operations. Do hope he recovers well and sees a big improvement in his health. Hope you enjoyed your days away. Sure you are relieved.
We went to North Hampshire for my nieces wedding at the weekend. She looked beautiful and it was a great day. Freezing cold but blue sky and
sunny. We stayed at Fleet Premier Inn on Saturday night and I would highly recommend it. Brilliant breakfast. DD1 booked two rooms and the breakfast for all was less than £100.
Well its back to normal today. DH has to go to DD! again today and hopefully boiler will be repaired.
Take care everyone and keep warm.0 -
Morning everyone. Frosty and really cold here. Had a fab dinner we all stuffed ourselves silly. Need to get back to normal now. Hope everybody is keeping warm. Wrap up well if you need to go out.0

hi everyone,
Have had a lovely break. If anyone watched "Vera" last night they saw most of where we were! Did loads of walking and fair bit of shopping too.
Alfie, we have been to South Shields several times - DH's favourite Indian is there and the beaches are wonderful. Think you maybe meant Tynmouth rather than Tyneside which is a large area in the North east. We walked to Tynmouth while we were in North Shields.
Sorry you aren't getting things sorted out FF.
Meal sounds great rose.
Glad you had lovely time at the wedding leanfun.
I saw my dad this afternoon and he is looking very well considering. Unfortunately things have not gone as well as we had hoped. He has to return in a few weeks to have a stent replaced as one is leaking. That will involve another operation of about 2hrs and another few days stay at Carlisle hospital. Obviously he is upset about this.
On the bright side IHG hotels have a sale on on their App for members so finding a few more bargains. DS3 will be coming down on Sunday so we might book 2 nights up there and collect him on the way back
There was a nice mug from PG Tips waiting on us when we got back. It had DS's initials on it. Must have put his on incase it came before Xmas.
He is really pleased anyway. Off to watch Corrie now.

Morning peeps. Cannot believe how cold it is out there this morning. Was supposed to be a bit milder today but it is certainly not here. Pavements are thick with frost and ice and pretty dangerous as they have not been gritted since weekend. I am staying at home today unless some emergency comes up. Hope everyone is warm and well.0

their shameful performance?
Your nieces wedding sounds absolutely wonderful. :grinheart
Staying at the Fleet Premier Inn sounds ideal - excellent
price too! :T

Good Morning,
Heavy frost here too rose. DD and her bf are in Glasgow for a couple of nights (£29 Premier Inn sale) and couldn't believe how cold it was the other night - they went back from pubs early as they were so cold in them! Then they found out they couldn't get their bedroom hot enough either. On the plus side they went to Loch Lomond and the scenery looked amazing.
Thanks Alfie, poor dad not happy and goodness knows how long it will be before he can drive again, which isn't good at 84.
I haven't manged many comps at all either.
I gave in to temptation and have booked a night at Stirling and one at Glenrothes at weekend so we can pick DS3 up and bring him back for our late Xmas celebrations! We haven't swapped presents yet as he wanted to wait until he was here. These 2 bookings were nice and cheap in the sale and will earn me loads of bonus points that I can use for stays at more expensive places in the summer so win win situation!
Always seem to find myself in Stirling and Edinburgh in January as they are expensive most of the time. Going to Edinburgh on 24th to see Miss Saigon which I am really looking forward to - used Ticketmaster win for it.
Hope everyone has a lucky day.

Hello, just popping in to subscribe, nothing to report on the comps front, though have some free bits to review. Hope you are all well, and warm. Frozen puddles here last night, and my trike skated home from shopping. How grateful I was for his safe wheels, and that I didn't have to risk a fall on ice. He was a competition prize, others have been more valuable, but 'Rossa' was the best ever. Ever.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0

Morning everyone, that's 3 days work done and have 2 days off now. It was freezing here yesterday, the wind factor didn't help.I have already been to local shops for a few bits and made appointment to have hair cut tomorrow. Sorry to hear you have to wait for coroners report ff, i know what that is like. Hopefully it won't take too long before they get back to you.Glad to hear you had a good time at the party rose.
Sheils it must be frustrating for your dad to have the op and then wait again for another one. Hopefully it will all be sorted with the other one. Glad to hear you had a good break away. I didn't know Vera was back on till a resident mentioned it. I will have to play catch up with it as i do like Vera.
Hope everyone has a lucky day..0
