Another interesting article from Historic UK ...
Today, April 1st is April Fool's Day, a favourite day for playing tricks
on friends and family...
April Fools Day 1st April
by Ben Johnson
“Whence proceeds the custom of making April Fools?” This was the
question asked of the wonderfully-entitled publication ‘British
Apollo or Curious Amusements for the Ingenious’ in 1708.
Unfortunately the origin of the ‘custom of making April Fools’ is
uncertain. One theory is that April Fools’ Day was purely the result
of its timing at the end of winter and the coming of spring. This
time of renewal and rebirth was marked with fun and jollity, not
dissimilar to the Roman festival of Hilaria in late March which was
celebrated with the wearing of disguises, rejoicing and
merrymaking.
Certainly April Fool’s Day has all the characteristics of such a
renewal festival, pushing the boundaries of everyday behaviour yet
with the resultant disorder set within a strict time frame. For
example, traditionally on April Fool’s Day all pranks are supposed
to stop at 12 noon sharp, with anyone playing a joke after midday
then considered the ‘April Fool’.... [Cont'd] >>

:hello: Good morning
Hope you're all ok. It's very blustery here this morning!
In fact, we've had very strange weather for the last couple
of days! Wednesday started with beautiful sunshine but sharp
frost. April showers kicked in for the rest of the morning. It
brightened up after lunch & by late afternoon the grass was
dry enough to mow, so I managed to have a tidy up in the
garden, plus a bit of digging.Meanwhile, not so far
away in Beaulieu, they had snow! :snow_grin
Yesterday was a complete washout - heavy rain for a good
part of the day so I decided to carry on with the dreaded
Spring cleaning!
My son & gf arrived safely back from Mexico yesterday.
They had a wonderful holiday & definitely noticed the change
in temperature here!I had a twitter win yesterday, The Grinch dvd, lunch box and hat. It's my youngests nephews birthday this month so that's his present sorted.
Brilliant win indie, perfect pressie for nephew's birthday! :T _party_
Have a lovely & lucky day all, take care.
