Can you not use HSBC branches to pay in ? (assuming you have one nearby)

We only have a Barclays and Lloyds here and Barclays are closing on 30th November. I don't know what banks are near DS yet, but I will find out. I haven't been to see the new house yet. Maybe I will fit it in tomorrow.
I have brought my trolley of trousers and hems to do but I am not going to do them tonight.
As I keep waking up around 4.45am I will maybe do some in the morning before I go out and about.

I have written to an old Pension fund to see if I can cash it in, as it tells me I will get £140 a Year when I retire.
I think I would rather put it with my Dreams/Pension funds.

Good idea to write to the pension fund.

Morning, I am starting the day tired, I wish my brain would switch off sometimes as when I wake up in the night I am struggling to get back to sleep. After waking at 3.45 I eventually nodded off after 5am while listening to a Hypnosis tape, as I needed it to distract my head.
So the alarm just now was not so welcome.

I made a momentous decision yesterday after talking with my Mum, and I am going to try to sell my business as a going concern. I don't have the energy to build it up any further. There is a lot of potential in the business, but I just want to sew or teach. The business was valued last year, and I have decided to look for the information I had and contact a business brokerage and see if I can sell it. Alternatively if I don't sell, I am highly unlikely to renew my lease next Autumn.
My landlord is not against the idea in principle, if a decent tenant is found.
The sale of the business should give me half a years income, plus the value of the stock.
I don't want to be working every weekend etc, I want to have more family time, and I can work from home for less hours and probably pay myself more.
I will have to organise my stuff both here and in the shop, and make sure my things that I want to keep are not sold in the stock inventory.

As I only pay myself £100-£130 a week on adverage, I am sure I will be able to earn that from home. And if not I will get a part time job somewhere else.

I am also going to tell my Son that I cannot take care of the boys and be the fall back for their mistakes. I believe that I want my time for my life now. I have Dgd and I want us to do more together while she's still interested.
I have listened to every ones comments, I am listening to my body, and I am listening to my heart. I don't want to end up resentful of my family, or exhausted all the time. I want to be free of the restriction that everything will put on me if I carry on the way I am going.
I may get lovely comments from the customers etc but all the money I earn goes back to the landlord , the insurance, the staff and the stock.

I thought I would be a failure if I said no to the boys or shut the shop, but actually I don't think I am. Now I have tossed everything around etc. The last 6 months have been tough, and I am still standing, but for how long?
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Definitely not a failure Mooloo - just a woman who has done her absolute best in extremely difficult circumstances. I know how hard it will be to step back from DS and the boys as I too had to do something similar. The heartbreak still hits me from time to time, so be prepared to have times when you feel you could have done more. I was "fortunate" to have given up work just before our family problems surfaced so at least I had the time to spend trying to sort things out. How you have managed to run a business at the same time I don't know, and maybe it is time to look at other ways of doing what you love best and sell the business. Again, definitely not a failing but working yourself into the ground would be, in my opinion. Time to make you (and DGD of course) the priority. By taking my "step back" I am finally (after quite a few months) getting to live the life I envisioned when I retired just over 4 years ago. I still feel despondent at times about my eldest's situation and prospects, and I still cry on the rare occasions I see my grandchildren (although they are happy and well-looked after by their mum and stepfather which is the most important) but I do have more happy days than sad. Also my relationship has improved with eldest as I keep things very neutral when I visit and keep those visits short. My relationship with youngest has also improved as I have more time for her without being so stressed and worn out by the problems, and I have taken up some new hobbies.
I wish you and yours all the best.
  • Wow mooloo, they are momentous decisions and I applaud you for them. They sound both instinctive and also well reasoned.
The last 6 months have been particularly tough. I am sure I am not the only one who will feel relieved that these are the choices you are making. They are good choices in my opinion.
Be proud that you have given your business your all but are now recognising that the business is not giving you what you want or need, physically, emotionally or financially and that your son's needs are are sadly likely to lead to a bottomless pit of utter exhaustion and poverty and by stepping back clearly this is his best chance and yours and dgd's too.
Old age isn't that far away and the next decade is your last chance to prepare financially for it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Wow! Your talk with your mum has helped you to clarify your thoughts, your wishes and your needs.

I'm certain that you will sleep better tonight, having made these momentous decisions, Mooloo! You've done well with your business, you started from nothing and look at what you achieved! A business worth a price which is nothing to be sneezed at. It may sell quickly, it may not - but having made that decision a load has been taken from you.

The decision about your son and his family is well-balanced too - they have to stand on their own two feet. DGD will be approaching puberty very soon - if she isn't already near - and it is important to concentrate upon her at this time so that history does not repeat itself which it could, if your attention is being spread too widely over your family.

    Good luck!

I've just logged in to catch up and a damp and dismal evening suddenly seems so much brighter . I'm so glad all your thoughts and ponderings have led you to the right decision Mooloo .

You can do this . You've been a striver all your life and I'm so glad your physical and mental wellbeing is now rightly taking centre stage at last . It's the old oxygen mask on the plane advice you can't help anyone if you don't put your mask on first .

Wishing you all the luck in the world . It may take some time to set a good sleep pattern after years of firefighting but it will come .

I'll be following your new journey . Have you thought of starting a new thread with your intentions for the rest of the year as the OP?
