Andy - With the vandalism, I wish they had asked the council - the police just said it was too big a timeframe - but surely the perpetrator must be on there, it may be someone the police recognise, who if later caught for other reasons might confess when shown the footage
With the car break-in I wish they had looked for forensic evidence that again might tie in with what they know
I do sympathise over cuts, we're getting similar problems in other sectors - defence, Nhs, social services, education, etc, to me it sadly looks like we can afford a lower standard of everything than we used to have - there used to be bobby's on the beat, now we can't afford that somehow? There used to be someone who answered the telephone in hmrc, now we can't afford more than a few call handlers, etc, can't afford bank branches, etcThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Personally I'd go with the suggestion to try and strike a deal with the church, putting to them that it would be good to have a regular extra income, up front, and somebody keeping a weather eye on the place. You might have to pay a few hundred a year but still cheaper than the alternatives.
As for the police attending crimes, around here they often don't and as my GF is in the security business (CCTV and alarms) she's getting very good at filling in police forms. They didn't turn up for £15 grand of mobile plant, nor a break in at commercial premises, but did do something about the latter criminals coming back to retrieve goods and threatening her. She did all the leg work in filming them, their car, discovering where they lived and putting together Facebook evidence. Something was then done, as one thing the police don't like is violence.0 -

I read that some forces would only attend burglaries on one side of the street at one time, because they expect the burglar to be long gone or hard to prosecute
And now they don't do shoplifting below the value of £200...
And this has relevance to parking because?0 -
