There is a church with a car park around the back that I usually use. There are no signs are either entrance saying no parking or private late, there aren't any bays in the car park either or any barriers. I park as out of the way as i can and move it when I can see it is a busy time.
I was approached this morning by someone telling me not to park there or theyll take further action. I've contacted the council before and they said there is no where around for me to have a permit and I cant afford £900 every six months to park in a public car park!
Can they take any action?! Am I allowed to park there?! Is there anything I can do if Not?! Thanks!
The reality is that in the short term there is not much they can do, but you can expect to come back one day and find a barrier installed, as other drivers follow your lead.
What were you thinking when you committed to having a car without a plan of where to keep it? £900 for six months parking sounds quite reasonable in such an area, £5 a day where there is no on street parking in walking distance? - a bargain.0 -
In my experience, even if you're legitimately parked down a side street, if people don't like you parking there they'll key your car and slash your tyres, you can't protect your car all the time and the police don't deal with car crime
I also got broken into once
And every car parked down my own side street had its wings mirrors kicked in, even though I had a permitThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You could always contact the Church to see whether they'd permit you to park there in return for an appropriate financial contribution ...:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Of course they do, didn’t you get a crime number?0 -
Got a crime number each time but they wouldn't bother to check for fingerprints when broken into or the CCTV when vandalised, they don't actually persue it like they don't attend burglaries anymoreThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Are you saying there was cctv and they didn’t obtain it?
For your info police still attend burglaries. Unless you’re talking about garden sheds where there are no forensic opportunities.0 -

Andy MC - yes to CCTV, but because it happened overnight they said it was too big a time range to fast forward through
I read that some forces would only attend burglaries on one side of the street at one time, because they expect the burglar to be long gone or hard to prosecute
And now they don't do shoplifting below the value of £200...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Perhaps strike a deal with the church where you can park your car for nothing on their land when it suits you, and their congregation can have a key to your flat and use the toilet and kitchen when it suits them? After all, I presume there are no signs at your door saying private? I’m sure the congregation would return the courtesy you have shown and use the far end of the kitchen and move when they can see it is a busy time for you.
Seems fair to me.0 -

There was nothing stopping you finding out what time it happened.
I read that some forces would only attend burglaries on one side of the street at one time, because they expect the burglar to be long gone or hard to prosecute
Ah you read it in the Daily Mail. You do realise that in some places the other side of the street could be another force?
And now they don't do shoplifting below the value of £200...Again more false information.
Come back with some substance to your arguement.0
