It is a couple of weeks since I have done a top-to-bottom blitz of my house, and pockets of clutter are starting to accumulate.I don't think it is that stuff has been coming in,it is just that life has been so busy, that things are lying around, there is still stuff sitting around that I bought down from the loft.I just need a day to walk around the house and put lots of items back in the right place.

    Out of the house today:
    1008:bundle of paper,shredded

    Recycled:
1009:storage box ,missing lid,and not in good enough condition to donate
    1010:gift bag
    1011:folder
    1012:collection of kid's drawings/scribbles

    Out of the loft:
64:Strawberry Shortcake magnetic game in a tin.Missing instructions,no doubt some pieces as well. Most of it should be recyclable,so put in recycling box. Will soon find out if it's not......

Our backyard has been a nightmare for years-bits and pieces lying all over the place: some old outdoor toys, bikes etc, some of my partner's hoard, some rubbish still lying around that was never cleared away when we had the house extended 2 years ago.And my partner (and I :o) are very lazy about mowing the lawn,so it gets waist high :eek:.
So today I told him we really need to work on it,and I would help gather up all the bit and pieces lying around, and drive it to the tip.
I have had to think about how I am going to count the items.I already have separate counts for house and loft and don't really think it is worth starting a 3rd list for the relatively few items in the yard.So am going to add it onto the "house" count.
Out of the back yard today:
    1013:a single mattress
    1014-1017:4 kids bikes
    1018-1026:9 plastic beach buckets
1027:plastic railway track from pre-schooler's toy (said pre-schooler is now 14 years old )
    1028:frame of plastic drawers unit
    1029:one of it's plastic drawers
    1030:swing set,bought for 16yo's first birthday
    1031:old bike tyre
    1032:old bike wheel
    1033:plastic bowl
    1034:Ikea bag,disintegrated
    1035:tarpaulin

I am looking forward to another tip-trip tomorrow. Not sure I will be able to convince partner to do anymore strimming, though.(Easy stuff done, but there are a few awkward areas in the back corner).

Hello, everyone, I've been away for over a week, partly unexpectedly, to look after someone's pets in situ, and partly a planned short break with some friends
My house looks pretty cluttered and generally not as I want it, after seeing another beautifully styled holiday home. It was a converted byre behind a farmhouse, and was just gorgeous, simple, uncluttered, and well thought out. It just shows what can be done with fairly awkward material. Looking forward to reading everyone's progress later, as I'm off to lunch and an afternoon with a friend now.

Another day of working in the back yard (can't honestly call it a garden :o).Partner and I both worked, but he huffed and puffed a bit.Woud have preferred to be doing something more fun. And,unforunately,we are not always brilliant at working on projects together.Lots of stepping on toes, rolling of eyes, cross words etc.Hot and exhausted now,but this weekend we have:
    -strimmed the back yard
    -strimmed the front yard
-mown back garden (front too small)
-raked front and back garden, bagged up clippings to go to tip later this week
-been to the tip with rubbish each day
    -bought two watering cans
-let 3 youngest kids (14,11,9yo) loose with watering cans to absolutely drench the yards (and kitchen floor ),aiming for soft greeen lawn instead of the wiry, patchy, white grass we have at the moment.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can use to grow green soft grass, please let me know.I have literally never gardened in my 50yr life. But I would at least like nice grass so we can enjoy the summer outside.Going to buy the kids a trampoline, and an outside table and chairs set.
Will list things that have been decluttered today,on a new post.

Out of the garden,to the tip today:
1036:plastic swimming pool that has been lying, overgrown, for about 8 years .Shredded into about 3 pieces over the years
    1037:tricycle
1038:hard plastic sand/waterplay table shaped like a car, about 14 years old and disintegrated
1039-1040:2 more plastic beach buckets (as well as the 9 I got rid of yesterday. We didn't buy them as buckets-they are what kid's fish and chips meals were served up in on a Haven holiday a few years ago :rotfl:
1041:plastic climbing frame.Partner bought it at Aldi about 12 years ago.Again, the kids grew out of it,it was left to die in the elements.
1042:Esky/cooler,it's lid and a plastic freezer block
    1043:plastic storage box,disintegrated
    1044:padding for an old trampoline
1045:old water gun, plastic disintegrated in the elements
    1046:plastic step stool
    1047:old basketball,ruined by the elements
    1048:beach shovel
    1049:hammock metal frame
    1050:old wooden gate
    1051:old tent

My other big job today was tidying/cleaning under the stairs. My understairs doesn't have a door on it,and the mess drives me crazy.I have now set up (stacked) opaque boxes for different things,so I don't have to look at it all. There is an individual box for:
    -bike helmets
-footwear not used all the time (Wellies, hiking boots,roller-blades,etc)
-partner's shoes (a square otterman, only holds a pair of boots and a pair of flip flops :rotfl:).And he has not worn either pair for years,so he hasn't even realised they are there
    -cleaning supplies
    -cleaning cloths.
And the vacuum cleaner stands in front of it all.The other thing I keep under the stairs are my 2 clothes airers (don't own a tumble drier)
Decluttered from under the stairs today:
1052-1053:emptied and recycled 2 nearly-empty plastic bottles of cleaning solutions
1054-1060:7 empty fish-food containers .This is the sort of stuff my partner holds onto!We haven't had fish since 2011 :eek:.There was also a bowl of fish tank "decorations"(?),which he insisted he had to keep for when we get fish again (insert rolling eyes emoticon here.....)

  • Hi everyone, from an overcast but not wet Germany :(:)

The only thing I am decluttering at the moment is MONEY :eek: No worries though as having a great time - good food, cheap beer & great company :T:j:T:):D

Just getting ready to go to dinner - more decluttering :rotfl:
