I’ve free-cycled two big rolls of carpet that were in the loft before we moved in, which meant there is now room for Christmas box, seasonal box and suitcases. On the minus I just bought 15 packs of nappies at a bargain price so these will have to be squeezed into the garage!!

I made a start on clearing out the kids room and got a bag of rubbish out of there! Called that 20 items though was probably a lot more. Also bagged up some old shoes and clothes and sorted out too small baby clothes creating a pile to sell.

    1. IF I NOTICE SOME SMALL TASK NEEDS DOING - I WILL DO IT IMMEDIATELY

    2. I WILL LEAVE A ROOM TIDIER THAN WHEN I WENT IN - WITHOUT HIDING THE CLUTTER EXCEPT for the wardrobe room which is currently the storage room (sr)

Hi everyone :hello: - I’m back :rotfl: and I see that everyone has been ticking along nicely even with the distractions of glorious weather, World Cup football & Wimbledon :rotfl:A’s well as RL work & family :D

I had a lovely holiday - DH & I got back yesterday evening & DSis had made a Shepherds Pie which was scrumptious :T:). (The full report is on today’s Daily Thread :rotfl:) My house is still standing :D but DSis has now made herself more at home by encroaching in my living room, kitchen & bathroom - the living room now has a small dark wood side table & lamp which really don’t go with the decor but, looking on the bright side, it means the garage is a bit emptier :T,
my completely empty double cupboard kitchen shelf is rammed full  & now I hate opening the cupboard - I know, I know very petty but an empty shelf did bring me an inordinate amount of pleasure :o & the lower double cupboard where I could see what I had is now also rammed full  + there is a full crate next to the fridge/freezer with various bits piled on top  but I did remove the new microwave DSis bought, off my very minimal workspace  However the dining room now only has about 40% of the original crate/box mountain :T as she has sorted a few more bits & put stuff in the loft :):T & the bathroom now has a wicker laundry basket rammed in between the sink & the bath - the consolation with that is when the bathroom is rejigged there will not be any space for it :j:j
I WILL STOP MOANING NOW & THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR FORBEARANCE :D

Today is a lazy day as it is too hot to do anything strenuous :D My pottering today has included emptying all bar one of our bags from our holiday, doing all the washing including DSis’ towels which are in the TD, all our clothes are being dried outside, washing down the kitchen work surfaces, filling the coffee & tea bag jars, putting away the washing up, airing & making the bed & general tidying. DH has put a new battery in his iPhone as it was losing 5% of its charge every couple of minutes  & has been continuing his ongoing mission to declutter his office :T

    So to resume counting

B1314 - B1315: DSis binned two large bags of shredding
    B1316 - B1321: Plastic milk cartons rinsed & recycled
B1322 - B1336: DSis has binned old Stained/ruined clothing items
B1337 Cardboard toilet roll inner recycled
B1338 non recyclable plastic tray & packaging binned & the contents being put out for the fox tonight :)

Tomorrow we will get back into the swing of things but I need to create a list of all the tasks that need doing in the next couple of weeks. Most important is to get in touch with the CS to arrange house & garden furniture collection - I will get space :rotfl: as I am now fully reinvigorated :j

    Hello ! :j

I started 'Declutter and Clean 2018' about six weeks ago. The unfinished house was looking like a DIY project and jumble sale storage facility.

Four boxes of books went to WeBuyBooks ££ and another two have gone to Oxfam. I also gave selected books to my mother. There's a pile of books in the hall, awaiting boxes. They've all had Gift Aid stickers added, which tops me sneaking them back onto the shelves.

All pre-2017 magazines went in the recycling.

Went through my make-up toolbox and was ruthless.

Walked around house collecting metal stuff I didn't want and Mr Stepford got £30 for it at scrappies. Since found more in two small boxes under stairs so that's in hall awaiting Mr Stepford's next date with the scrappie.

Two boxes of DVDs for Cash Converters are in boot waiting for Mr Stepford to have a meeting in town with CC

Cleared out utensil drawers, some to my mother, some in scrap pile, others in CS pile.
  • Hi everyone
    Room for another one?! :)

Need to get a grip on decluttering , it's not a jam packed house but lots of "stuff lying around without a real place to go " not sure where to start I seem to keep re doing the "easy " rooms ( like bathroom) but never really feeling I get on top of it before it's time to start all over again!
MF planning for the simple life :j

Hi Downshifterella & welcome to our merry band of declutterers :T:j

There are various ways of starting & eventually you will find the one that suits you :D

One way is to pick a small area - e.g. a table. Initially clear the table completely & then only put back what needs to be there like a vase of flowers. Every night just before you go to bed make sure the table is clear. If you get into the habit you will automatically clear the table as soon as you have finished dinner, your paperwork etc. Once that habit is formed, you can pick the next small area. There is also a lady called Marie Kondo & lots of people use her methods - for me I love her folding methods as you can store lots of clothes in a small space until you finally make a decision to rag bag or donate to cs :)

Whatever method you choose, we love reading about successes but more importantly there will always be someone to give you ideas and a shoulder to lean on & an ear to listen. I know that when I get stalled in my decluttering efforts I just go back to the start of the thread & start reading & hey presto the decluttering mojo reappears :rotfl:

So again, welcome & I look forward to your next post :D

Yesterday was very hot again, so I went back to pottering whilst making sure that the three of us were fully hydrated :rotfl: but DH & DSis braved the heat & did repairs to the decking supports using the wood that DH had saved from another project :D The decking is now safe :T They also went shopping :T Today it is hot, hot, hot again and DH is currently outside putting extra lights on his motorbike with the assistance of my DSis who has small fingers to get into the small spaces :rotfl: Also the window cleaner visited yesterday so now I need to clean the inside of all my windows :(

I have resumed my two mantras, so over the last two days I have - 2 x aired & made bed; vacuumed stairs, landing & kitchen floor; vacuumed sofas & turned cushions; 4 x filled birds water bowls; 3 x washed down kitchen work surfaces; put away all the washed & dried holiday clothing & DSis’s washed & dried towels; the last holiday bag has been emptied & contents put away; the last drawer in my CofD has finally been sorted & it only took 10 mins :rotfl: not the hour I had convinced myself it would take :rotfl: ; filled sugar bowl & tea bags jar; darned 3 pairs of DH’s socks & mended 4 pairs of my knickers :D; 4 x washing up, drying & putting away; general tidying while making dinner - only salads of course :rotfl: & lastly decanted new tea bags into their container.

B1339 Empty coffee tin filled with kitchen detritus & Binned
    B1340 - B1346 Non recyclable packaging & pots Binned
B1347 - B1358 Three plastic bottles, two plastic milk bottles, three tin cans, one glass jar & two glass bottles all rinsed & recycled
B1359 - B1360 Plastic tray, plastic fruit drink ‘shot’ container - Recycled
    B1361 - B1362 Cardboard Boxes dismantled & recycled

DSis also put a few items in the CS bag & I added a few bits as well :D

B1363 - B1378 DSis’s items:- 4 karate belts, 2 belts, 2 CD’s, boxed child’s cutlery set, French magnetic wall calendar (date & month only), hm photo frame, 4 styling hairbrushes & a ceramic ornament - man on horse - ALL to CS

B1379 - B1385 Pack of 15 curtain hooks, belt, hair Scrunchy, 3 Alice bands & a packet of 25 ponytail bands
