Snowed quite a bit here last night but the roads are pretty good this morning, sleeting now and is freezing. DH was supposed to be off work for the rest of this week but he has been called back in today so the decorating jobs we were going to do will have to be put back.

DD is off school today, she is full of cold and having a real problem with her ear, I think it is the cold but I have made a doctors appointment to get it checked.

I sold an item on ebay yesterday so that is another unwanted item gone, will nip to the post office whilst out at the doctors.

Not working today as I had got up to date with it yesterday in preparation for DH being home so will catch up with some cleaning.

I am very thankful that my boiler is still up and running although it does make me feel like we've jumped the gun on the replacement and should have waited but it's so cold at the moment and if it conked completely we would regret it.

I almost forgot, yesterday was spendy, I booked our train tickets and hotel for a trip away at Easter, it is on the CC at the moment but I have the money to pay for it, it is in cash and I need to pay it into the bank though.

  • Checking in. Still in budget with groceries and transport-I include parking and buses in this. Unfortunately my free bus pass has secretly whilst stored in my purse run out, have renewed but will be 8 days to delivery. Will have to avoid buses!. Had my second grocery delivery of the month £77, a lot but stocked up on things I always use which were on offer. Have managed 8 NSD, and donated to the food bank.

Have bought my travel insurance for my holiday in July, had my watch repaired so down £179. will spread it out over 6mths. Dreaded the dentist as had broken a tooth. It was however repairable as had large filling in it so only £40. Next need new lenses in my glasses - only going to get one pair for now and sunglasses in the spring. So far a spendy month, all on my overdraft at the moment will aim to clear it in 6 months.

My shoes and boots have arrived from the ho..er sale and I love them, so comfy, they make my old shoes look dowdy.

I think I have finally got to grips with YNAB and understand it except I am running in my overdraft, d/d's coming out all over the month and income spread throughout the month with 8 payments coming in over the month. So I am working on debit balances until the end of the month. Do any YNAB 'ers have the same problem and know how to solve it except of course getting rid of the overdraft?

Using up out of pantry and freezer going well, just buying extra ingredients to make meals. Cauliflower pasta cheese bake tonight.

Started doing my colouring books again and had forgotten how relaxed they make me feel. Not got the knitting out yet though.

Lots of hugs to those who need them.

    xx
    NSD 1/3,
My mantra is After I ....I will. eg After I make my morning coffee, I will take my medication. Eventually this will become a habit,

((Hugs)) to Kerry Woman, take care pet, it is early days yet :(

Does anyone else follow Mrs Frugalwoods? I find the Marie Kondo approach to decluttering 'a bit much' so was interested in this alternative real life approach :) If anyone is interested, you can read at http://www.frugalwoods.com/2018/01/17/how-decluttering-saves-me-money-time-and-stress/

apple muncher, sashanut, laurenh1, and DawnW - Thank you for your lovely comments.
    NSD achieved today - 10/18
Had to fill out a form to close down my Mum's account where her pension went into at the post office. Gave in the relevant paperwork and they will send it off.
Gave a big bag of Mum's clothes that were suitable to a cs today. Did found that hard today, but the longer I leave it the harder I think it would be. I did keep a couple of her cotton dressing gowns.
I did have an M&S voucher so treated myself to a few food treats and underwear. Also 2 bunches of daffodils which my Mum loved and keeping them in the flat.
    Grateful for:
Support from my brother and sister today.
    Thoughtful people on this thread.
    M&S.
    A little bit of walking.
    Achieving what I could today.
    Self care.
For starting to apply for permanent work. Will wait until February for temp work.

I am currently trying to clear my F-I-L's flat before it has to be handed back as he only rented - its really tough to go through everything and decide what to do with everything as it was all part of their life. I want to do right by him and the environment but at the end of the day I have to remember that I only have so much time and I can't please everyone.

Reporting in 3 more NSD's for Mon, Tues and today.

Was expecting some payments in for auditing which I would use for STRETCH challenge but it hasn't been paid in yet.

Eager_Elephant - It certainly a lot tougher for you as you only have a certain time. It is also very stressful. Are you getting any help from anyone else? Sending you hugs.

I have my DH who is step-son but he has mental health issues and is not coping well at all, at the weekend it was just me who went to the flat on both days to do some bits.

FIL had 2 other sons but they were estranged so it's mainly me sorting things.

I have rehomed some bedroom furniture so things look a lot better but there is just so much stuff, he has a huge stamp collection, 1000's of CD's etc

I can see a lot of it coming to mine to sort out slowly.
  • KerryWoman pleased to see you treat yourself. I like the idea of the daffodils.
DawnW: Don’t Complain, Take Action <- where I am at ;) I have heard of Frugalwoods, (possibly because of the book) but not a reader.

YAY I made it to an NSD! I was beginning to think those things were extinct.

Budgets and plans: Food planning done for the week. I roll over into payday with a positive balance tomorrow. We're getting there!
DD1 seems to have forgotten she has a party present to buy, so I will raid the pressie box.
Activity Gym today - sticking to my goals on this. Another 1lb off this week. 4 to my first goal.
STRETCH: Quidco emailed to confirm a pay.

As someone, (Dotty?Dawn?Dolly?) mentioned Dry January has indeed highlighted DH's drink crutch. Thankfully he was open to talking about it - how it's affecting his weight.
What he's not seeing is how it's now causing depression and withdrawal from everyone and everything. It's hard to think it's not 'me'/pressure of work etc. So I'm doing a bit of research on how to help him out of that - suggestions to go to the doc are not being well received.
What was that question about being defined by what we do again:rotfl:

Kerry woman - I associate snowdrops, crocuses and hyacinths with my dad at this time of year, as we always used to compare notes onhow far on our respective gardens were. This is only my 2nd (approaching) spring without him, so it still makes me well up. But it is a good memory.

I spotted our first dark purple crocus yesterday, which made me smile and think of him.
