Today I am grateful for my counsellor, for getting plenty of walking done, for doing a workout, for dh meeting up with me to do the food shop, for dd having a good day, for my sister calling and we talked for about 90 mins (yikes! But she gets free minutes. Phew!), for doing some proof reading for a colleague, for step ds making some important decisions.

Horrible cold weather here too - it was trying to rain, hail and snow on me all at once this morning. Spent on more soft food. I was only going for mum's stuff but had drunk my through the fizzy water and coke supply (was giving up the coke but it is the only thing that gets rid of the nasty taste in my mouth and it is giving me a little burst of energy).

Spent £10 of mum's yesterday (few pence change) and £10 of mine (£9.99 spend) today. Hit on a small haul of ys goodies including melon for mum and raspberries for me (good for me and soft enough to eat but usually too expensive). Can't even stand the thought of eating a cut up apple atm, did open a tin of mandarins but that causes other problems (ration them over 2 - 3 days normally). Going to count both yesterday and today as spendy and add £10 to my total. Annoyed that 'soft food' is costing so many spend days and that I don't even have the energy to do some other shopping at the same time.

Went to mum's, checked food stocks - soup mountain is proving it's worth. Want to aim for doing a restock for her to be delivered next week.

Aiming for an early night but if I can't fall asleep I will continue plodding. Feel guilty because I planned to start on the kitchen but need this room completely sorted first. I did take down a shelf to put a rail underneath it but that is as far as I have got.

Today I am grateful for having got this far into winter before being ill (under par OCT- Dec last year), for being able to get some things done (focus on what I can do not what still needs doing) and that I am not a binman - the bins are going to be going down like ninepins this week and they are still dealing with the Christmas backlog. Tomorrow I will have an empty paper bin again:j:j:j. Take pleasure in the little things.

    Hi all turtles

Janus So this is a time to look forwards - where do you want to be in 12 months from now? I would like to have the house much clearer. Slow progress but small steps.. 5 years? House completely clear & clutter free, DD settled in her own home. 10 years? Spending half the year in Ireland, half here

Activity. This is a BOGOF one. Take up a new hobby or resurrect a new one. Really believe I have enough craft supplies to see me out, keep discovering yet more I had forgotten about..

ALSO, be active. Keep moving. Have been in the garden clearing, it has helped being in the fresh air. No time in garden today as morning spent working in CS. Then afternoon out finished off with heavy snow...

    Non-negotiables:
-18 NSDs (if not, why not?) still on 9/18

-your budgets are set by the start of the month and are fixed. Nearly - think I will say £250 for us & all animals, should not need near this amount so all saved will go to another project. Filling in book with receipts, found most of them. Kept receipts from shopping, will fill in book later. Still to do..

-£5 to foodbank / charity Finally managed to do this! Today received item from charity

-pay money to your debts FIRST - do not wait to see how much is left at the end - and live within your budget Do not have debt but have a cc paid off in full each month, which gives vouchers I use at Christmas. Has been a v spendy month, will cut down as much as possible. Will be prepping to start selling some of this stuff ASAP. Tomorrow I will sort at least a few things.

-meal plan Lunch was beans on toast for DH, leftover portion of risotto for me, supper was a treat of YS steak peppercorn sauce mushrooms & chips..

Unabashed, unambiguous, unconditional, undaunted, undivided, unerring, unshakeable devotion to your goal(s). [more on this later] Do not exercise as was - like many people - put off at school. And I was also rubbish! Put off swimming by being pushed into the deep end (by the swimming teacher!) which instead of having the desired effect of getting me swimming, actually nearly drowned me..

Always plan your meals; always take a shopping list; always take your lunch to work and drink + snacks when out and about; avoid all coffee shops, vending machines, work canteens... Making shopping list for tomorrow now, don't work outside the home but do a bit of voluntary work. Deviated a bit from shopping list, but not much, took fruit to work & get free brews..Don't drink coffee & never go in coffee shops..will try & take snacks, drink when out & about..

Reduce, re-use, repair, re-gift, recycle, recover, refuse! And read. Returned books to CS but did bring home a few more. No staff in CS except me & boss on till, just so much to do...

You are the key to reducing your debt, living modestly, keeping as fit and well as you can. So look after yourself - physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Determined to look after myself & pamper a little each week, have already had a face pack yesterday, need to do things for myself instead of being a in constant rush doing stuff for family Not much on this front tbh, seems pointless.

I want to re-introduce Bob's s t r e t c h challenge for January: how much extra can you earn / save off your food shop / move / remove.NO sign yet of said shoe but will keep identifying items to sell. Have realised that we have a ton of food still to eat, that's before we start on the 2 chest freezers (& little one inside fridge). There's only 2 of us (but often 3)..Returned some items to MnS & used coupon for shopping, then received yet another. Remembered that voucher bought for us for Christmas can be used there, so will use that next time, making the shopping free or nearly so..

Would joining the 1% thread help you? Or the MFW for 2018? Or the pay off all your debts by xmas18? Does reading mrmoneymustache or frugalwoods inspire you? Have joined Frugalwoods challenge already & will be interested to see how it pans out. Have been on MMM & introduced his philosophy to DH, applied the principles so we are now MF - wish we had done it years ago, wasted so much time/money etc. in the past..

I use the liquid hay fever meds. If you ask the chemist for the name of the active ingredient - in my case it is cetirizine hydrochloride, it is £2.99 for a 500ml bottle, whereas a much smaller of branded liquid is £5-7.

What is the name of what you are looking for? Aldi do a 14 pack for less than £1, and many other supermarkets have under £1 ranges. Is it a specific one you prefer?

Hi Foxholes, that's the ingredient I'm looking for - I might try that at the weekend and see if I can save some money that way. I know it's not hayfever season but my doctor recommended the meds for my eye infection as they think it's allergy related (but to what we don't know lol).

Kerry Woman I am so sorry things are tough for you at the moment.

Janus- looking ahead trying to be as organised as possible for the year, budgeting for any big planned expenses.
activity- rubbish, I am blaming the snow
non negotiable- meal plan done, NSD #6 today. seems unlikely I will hit 18 but hoping for 15 at least. budgets need redoing after I paid for hol , will do it soon .
unbashed- all extra funds going into things I know will need this year as money likely tighter.
always plan- lunches made for tomorrow
reduce reuse repair- trying to get thr most from things we already have .
S T R E T C H- rang round & got lots of quotes for our hol, saved £££s , got a free call from Mickey to tell my kids,
