I've been offered my existing contract plus BT sport free for 12 months. 28.99 a month for 12 months. Not sure whether to take that or go for plusnet. I quite like BT sport plus I'm on BT mobile so tempted to keep but as always they huge much better deals to new customers

BT are interpreting their email very strangely and preventing people from switching. It says

'You don't need to do anything but if you want to change something, please give us a call. If you want to leave and you're within your minimum contract term, you'll need to call us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early. You'll need to give us 30 days' notice to leave (or 14 days if you're switching to a new provider). We won't charge you for any increase in price during that time.'

So I rang up to say I would like to transfer (I rang 25 days after receiving the email). They said i can't I needed to do that within 14 days of the email. However I can cancel the contract ( 30 days notice - and then they would disconnect me). How on earth they interpret the email like that I don't know. They have had a number of complaints but will not back down. Am I being unreasonable to interpret it that way? I read that that i could give them 14 days notice to cancel within the 30 days of receeving the email!

Notice to cancel penalty free = 30 days .
Transfer within 14 days from receiving the email is how i read it .

You can always use your BT member help/ community forum to clarify .
Simply phone tell them you are cancelling within the 30 day period and then put into place a switch via your new provider .

Just call back and speak to another person.

I called on Friday (22 days after getting the email) and the person I spoke to said he had noted that I was cancelling due to the price rise, and as long as my switch was completed by 20th January I would incur no charges.

You have 30 days to tell them you wish to transfer or stop your broadband. If you are transferring, I think you should have your request sent from the new company within the 30 days, as when you sign up they send a notice to the old company advising of the transfer.

Don't worry about the 14 days, this is effectively how much line rental you'll pay, even if you moved tomorrow, you would still pay for 14 days. It certainly does not mean you have 14 days to switch.

BT are really bad when things go wrong - someone from Retentions called me back on Friday after I rejected their feeble attempt at keeping me (same price for 18 months, but no BT sport). I was called back on friday evening and was offered same price on a 12 month contract and keep BT sport for the same period for free too. I was in a bit of a rush at the time and asked that the person note down the offer on my account and can I call back after Xmas? Of course I can, was the answer. Now i call back this morning and theres no record of the offer. Sort of annoyed, but i think I will swallow the £2.50 increase as I only have until August on my contract, then go on Plusnet as theyre cheaper anyway. When Plusnet eventually increase their prices I'll move off them and come back to BT on another offer. A bit of a pain as I would be happy to stay on BT if they offer me a good deal. Oh well six more months of this, and i'm off.

Just had the same conversation with BT. My reading of the email is that I have up to 30 days to inform them that I wish to end contract and that I have to give them 14 days notice if I move to another provider, within the 30 day period - or 30 days notice to cancel and have line disconnected. According to BT I only have 14 days from the date email was sent to inform them of cancellation by way of switching provider. Not happy!

I've just had a missed call from BT, I presume it is to improve on the £29 a month / 18 month contract offer, I have no interest in BT sport or extra calls etc so wondering what they could offer me ? A reduced price and contract would swing it but they should of offered me this from the 1st phone call I feel.
I am about to sign up to the Plusnet offer of £25 a month for 12 months with £70 topcashback. I'll give it a hour or 2 to see if they call back.

I rang back and got a different story. They have allowed me to transfer. Don't really know what is going on. So my advice is to ring and talk to someone else. I recorded the call just in case. A pity we have to jump through so many hoops.

most likely it will be £28.99 a month for either 12 or 18 months.
Im a bit peeved at them to be honest - see my post above. Was offered that price (same as what im paying now) but as I was in a rush i asked them to note it on my account and i'll call back - see earlier post for details, but they havent honored that price which I agreed with them last week. Shame, as I would have signed up for another 12 months if they did when I called up this morning.

As it stands I'm happy to see out the remaining 7 months or so of my contract, take the £2.50 price hit, and find something else in August. If I leave now I will also have to battle with them to get a refund on the line rental I paid in advance, and also my BT mobile sim will increase in price by £5 a month. Im not in a contract with the SIM and can leave, but at the moment no other deals that offer 20Gb for as cheap as £16 per month

    Oh well.
