hi no. 15 here reporting my final update for the year, due to an unexpected gift of money my December figure is £3,500, bringing my total figure for the year to £12,866.16. I didn't think I was going to make target and in fact without the gift I would not have so not completely happy but still, can't really complain either. Thanks everyone for this year and especially slowlyfading for all her wonderful efforts running the challenge, have a Happy New Year, and looking forward to 2019 and the new challenge. :)
  • Just popped in my last update, taking me to over £12,600 in total - something I didn't think was possible!

Well done to all of those who've achieved their targets, as well as those who were still a lot closer to target than they would have been.

And a big congratulations to all of those who spent their hard earned savings on things that matter, whether that's a house, or a well earned break, or even on family that needed it.

And definitely a huge, huge thank you to the mistress of the spreadsheets, slowlyfading! Looking forward to 2019.

Well, the final total for me fell well short, unfortunately, due to a number of things:-

    1. Red October trashed most of my S&S ISA profits for 2018. I went from around £15,000 profit down to a loss of £-3818.69 in the space of 3 months from Oct-Dec (!!!).

    2. I was unable to make any deposits into my S&S ISA post-September due to:-
      A holiday during November
An expensive trip to London during December
      Christmas
      Road Tax
      Car Insurance
      House Insurance
Paying for trips to Vietnam & Portugal in 2019.
The end result is that I deposited £14,350 into my S&S ISA. From this, I have to deduct £3818.69 in 2018 losses, so my final total = £10531.31.

I'm not overly optimistic on where 2019 will take my ISA, as there's the ongoing trade dispute between the USA & China, issues around bond yields in the USA, not to mention a small problem called Brexit... But usually where there is volatility there's also opportunity.
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)

  • Happy New Year my fellow savers! Its fantastic to see all the totals coming in this year and how many people started and finished this great challenge!!

My total savings for the year was £17,189.12 which is 15% more than my goal of £15,000! I didnt think the £15k was possible at the start of the year so thank you to the people on this forum for keeping me focused.

Roll on 2019 where my total will be £15k again, it will be much harder to achieve this year as no bonus coming in but will aim for it!
