Custardy..if you are reading this can you offer any thoughts on a suspicion I have? Talking to others it seems to be that standard post is getting through in most areas, mine certainly is virtually up to date now. However, it seems that the items being held back are recorded delivery things where a sig is required. I wonder if due to weight anything that might not get delivered, like recorded which needs a sig, is not going out on the walks on a daily basis? This would account for the amount of recorded delivry items that people ar ereporting have not arrived..either that or they aren't bothering with sigs any more and buyers are generally getting more dishonest and claiming item has not arrived?

shouldnt make a difference really.they are in normal mail till the final sort at the delivery persons frame/duty section so should go out as they hit the DO.
even if a walk was streamed(where mailsort is removed) the RD should still go out.
pakages again on van runs should be going out daily but if workers are working to thier hours(not going in early, taking breaks etc as some have mooted)then they will struggle to complete on some duties.
obviously im specualting but i can see this happening.in my own office we are short of staff and the office functions on overtime and people working their days off.if this was removed then the office would be struggling to cope on a daily basis with normal mail loads

The no overtime rule is what hits me here as I am on the end of a walk. So when a postman reaches his time he may well head back to the depot before getting to me..it happens rarely but it does happen.

As for recorded..it was my last ditch attempt to explain why recorded seems to be so much slower than regular mail, oh well, I only use it for documents anyway so I know they have arrived.

yup i cant really give a reason.im not in work just now so im not seeing how the live mail is flowing.
i know last week some delivery offices had sporadic quiet/very busy days which is dictated by what the mail centres send down to them.
idealy a delivery office will 'clear' on a daily basis with nothing left.
if you have little mail from the mail centre there is little can be done.on normal days where the mails quieter ,mailsort will be added to the mail to bulk it up as its has a set delivery period it must be delivered(so comes with a delivered by date) but once it hits the delivery office its usually out the day it arrives

mail centres sort by the postcodes(which is what a delivery office is dicatated by) so dont sort beyond that so 1st,2nd,recorded makes no difference to them they just sort it to the postcode and forward it to that office

as you say those at the end of walks often lose out on 'cutting' and TBH this may become more common(depending on new practices yet TBA) as less people are willing to go in before their start time, skip their breaks etc under job & finish if they are going to be penalised for the early finish

i already said on this thread ;) strikes are off for now.
    expect an announcement today

@soolin,ive done a bit off digging around and mail seems sporadic over the country.some areas seem back to normal but somer are still dealing with substantial backlogs.
eg bristol mail centre reports they are using the mail storage they use for xmas mail!!
a lot of DO's reporting that its busier than xmas but a lot are saying RM are refusing/limiting overtime so its a vicous circle.
i hope todays announcement is good news
although ive just heard of at least 1 office where they were told to concentrate on clearing DSA(downstream access) items. unfortunalty this tends to be bills/junkmail

Delivery in E Midlands still makes no sense. No sign of a bank statement posted on 26th Sept, or credit card statment on 28th, and I still haven't had a 1st class packet posted on 6th October by an ebay seller whose other stuff is getting through (I checked feedback). Recent mail seems up to date, but I have had nothing like the volume I'd expect, and neither the on foot delivery nor the van is running any later than usual.

yup,ive been looking into it and basically there is no pattern im afraid.
some offices severly backlogged and making little headway.
others are as good as clear.
a lot can be attributed to different managerial styles.some are playing hard ball refusing overtime in any form coupled with the later starts.
in real terms RM would be far better reinstating night shifts over this period to clear it out
