Postal Strike Effect

Has the postal strike affected your eBay selling? Has anyone tried for a refund already? Are you petrified that things have gone missing? How will you deal with it if things have gone missing? Do you worry that buyers may try it on?

I posted a lot of things the morning that the strike started (I really couldn't avoid not posting) and according to my feedback only one has arrived (I know, others could have but it's still not great for my nerves ;))

I also posted a load of things on Friday too, I hate selling on ebay if I'm honest, so many things can go wrong!

But yes, if anything goes wrong I don't know what to do - do you refund instantly? (I really can't afford to do that - I was selling to raise money for Christmas) and then ask RM for a refund? Or do you think Paypal will be more understanding (HA! As if ) That because of a strike we can't really be held accountable for what has been dumped/lost/whatever.

I'm dreading things going wrong and things not getting there, I really am!

I carried on posting every day throughout the strike and so far have had no complaints or reports of missing items.

However when something does go missing I usually ask the buyer to wait until week 2 and then just refund in full and after 15 working days have elapsed I reclaim from the RM. I do not wait until I can start my RM claim as that is between me and the RM and is nothing to do with the buyer.

As a buyer I would expect my seller to refund me within a couple of weeks. If a seller tried to stall me for too long I would just go to a chargeback and reflect my unhappiness in my feedback.

I posted on the Wednesday and then the day after the strike finished, (weds) out of the 28 sacks taken the day after the strike, there seems to be a few stuck somewhere, the ones posted on Thursday/ Friday last week have mainly got through

I also get them to wait 2 weeks, I usally call the delivery office and check to see if it is waiting for them (some posties dont put the card through), and then refund / replace, I claim later from Royal Mail, (sometimes get paid, sometimes not) - its not the buyers issue, its mine

rather than go through customers services from Royal mail to get the customers local delivery office numbers check

    https://www.192.com

put their postcode and royal mail as the search and it will bring up local delivery offices, as waiting for Royal Mail is like waiting for christmas..

Apparently they are still planning talks so we are Ok for a few days. However there are currently two wildcat strikes, one of which is in East London (blast it) and I don't recall where the other was, somewhere oop North though I think.

  • I'm still waiting for something that I won on 2nd October. This is a seller that i've used before and never had any problems. She has already left me positive feedback and asked if I would do the same. I emailed to say that I havent received the goods yet but she hasnt responded. How long should I wait before requesting for a refund? I paid via Paypal.

According to her "terms" she says she does not give a refund for any item lost in the post. Is this allowed?

Whether her terms state that or not, if you open an item not received process with paypal you will get a refund if she cannot provide a signature for delivery.

Buyers need to understand they have to be a lot more patient at the moment. It could take a few weeks before all the backlogs are cleared.

Smickan please don't stress too much about all that can go wrong. If you have packaged and addressed your items properly, the chances of them going missing is very small.

If you need to placate a buyer, you could send them their recorded delivery tracking number (if you have one), or a scan of the proof of posting slip.
