We have a "Shaw's drapers" and they sell balls for 85p each - it is like soft string....
Many thanks.. I've done a google search to see if there's a shaw's drapers up here in Manchester but there doesn't seem to be, sadly. Having said all that, there is a material shop in Manchester which i'm going to next week so if the cotton twine doesn't work, then i'll try there
thanks!!

Been busy scrubbing out the kitchen again today
I've packed away a load of clutter *lil_me will be so pleased* and decanted a load of stuff into jars or those klippy things (can't remember what they're called  )
My lakelands bits came today so I'm going to have a play with the burger maker thingy looks quite cool !!
Still not a lot of cooking going on just yet as still had 2 out of 3 kids home but next week I plan to go and have a dig around the garden and get some stuff brought in..the ground's been a bit hard to dig and seeing as I wave in the wind when I stand on the fork anyway,I don't need any other excuse to stay in the warm :rotfl:
After the kitchen I started on the lounge and sorted out my piles of sewing patterns and looked through them for storage projects..found a few good ideas which will make no dent at all in my fabric stash but it'll keep me out of trouble for a few hours:D
Packed a few of my read books away as well as my James Herbert collection to make room for my ever expanding pile of cookery books!!
Just need to catch up with the ironing tomorrow, did all the washing today so it got dry *ooh I cleaned the washing machine out too*
Hoping by getting ahead I'll have a bit of sewing time Monday :j I shortened a whole houseworth of nets yesterday (bargains from the sales) and feel the urge to do some more..It relaxes me just stitching bits of stuff together..very theraputic0 -
Well done
yes I am still spying on you :rotfl: **snarls with oven envy**
I'm back on a using up mission again, well trying to now we're all eating, I just have to resist spending, I need to defrost one of the freezers so must be done....One day I might be more organised...........

well i had loads and loads planned for today. wanted to keep on top of the blitzing i had started yesterday.
but i woke up this morning being sick and generally felt washed out.
however i've made a gorgeous fruti smooties with my little girl( hubby at work at mo) from exotic fruit juice , 1 banana , tin of mango slices and a handfull of frozen mixed summer fruits. and it is gorgeous. kids have a huge glass each and are enjoying it, and it is making me feel full up yet giving me some energy.
i've stripped beds and the machine nearly washed it all, so gonna put on line. even tho is only partly sunny. but thoght the blast of fresh air might help.
i made a batch of twinks hobnobs on thursday. and forgot to put lid on properly last night and they have gone a little chewy. there even nicer than they were. simple recipes are always the nicest i think.
Does anyone know if i can make a bakewell tart using marg instead of butter ? asi've run out of buter , but have loads of marg.0 -
Dishcloth cotton is softer than twine. My Grandma always knitted our dishcloths. You can get it on ebay under Dishcloth cotton or this seems good value http://www.bgpayne.com/haberdashery/dishcloth.html She always knitted them on fairly large needles, but I suppose that is just preference and my mum always boiled them to clean them- nowadays I suppose you would wet nuke them in the microwave
Oh dear jcr - noravirus?0 -
that is cheap.. but don't forget to add postage..
jcr16 - hope you are starting to feel a bit brighter now
well the bread rolls I made yesterday were wonderful! so soft and yummy! They were still soft this morning but starting to get slightly doughy - made good toast though! Recipe is here - I really recommend making them!! Next time I will use slightly less sugar as they were a tad too sweet plus I will make the rolls smaller so getting a bigger quantity but as they are so filling you don't need quite so much.0 -
Hello everyone!
Feeling a bit better today so went into town to do banking and met OH after work, we bought an Easiyo, cannot wait to start using that as I have a calcium deficiency (even though I take calcium, vit d, vit k, magnesium as per Dr instructions) so hopefully this will help me on my way to getting more through my diet, without begrudgingly buying shops own. It was the starter kit, half price in Julian Graves, so am chuffed with that
Gonna stick the chicken on in a bit, for rubber chicken, not sure what we''ll have for tea, prob will find something, haha. Maybe we could have roast chicken if I delayed the cooking a bit.... I can't cook it too late though as I don't want to forget it like last time as I wanted to get it cooled down properly. I'm getting there though!

Yes you can make it with marg and being the tight wad that I am I always do
I've been a good girl today as instead of hiding away in the kitchen cooking and baking like I love I have bottomed the house instead and it now looks lovely, clean and tidy. But as I speak all four of my kids have launched on a mammoth game of hide and seek so I suspect most of my work will be undone. We're having broth and dumplings for tea so thats simmering away on the hob, the bread is in tins and doing its stuff and I've made some apricot and plum jams for the kids to try and see if they like.I've only made them in small amounts at the moment as a trial but when the fruits are actually in season if they like them I'll do a big batch then.I was reading on an old thread about butter making last night and as I have some Double Cream that needs using up I might give it a go in a bit.
Dee you are so lucky I ordered some things off Amazon before Christmas and they still havent arrived.I've come to the conclusion that they are walking here and Snail Mail really is just that
