how about making balls from the melon and keeping them in the freezer until u need them , or just cutting into cube's if u don't have a melon baller.
i saw in tesaco recently a tub of melon ball's and i thought it was really expensive.
balls of melons would look great on skewer, along with other fruit when making fruit kebab's or similar.
or chopping up and adding to a trifle ?
i not really sure on many ideas for melon as we all love it so much it never last's. but i'm sure someone has got some fantastic ideas to give u.0 -

HI all
Hope you don't mind if i join the thread. It has taken me about 3 weeks to get through the whole thread and what an inspiration!
I now have a BM and a SC and have been trying out lots of the wonderful recipes from here, all of which are going down a treat.
We are a family of 4, me hubby son and daughter and with eldest daughter and grandson who seem to be here more than their own home lol.
I have a veggie patch and a greenhouse and have been very interested in all the things everyone here grows. I am a volunteer for our local community fresh veg co-op and get my veg from there. It's all locally grown and fantastic. We have just got a local farmer to supply meat packs once a month as well.
I'm in Somerset and we have been told to expect snow tonight. We are surrounded by hills and so rarely get the snow like they do up in the hills.
Thanks to everyone on the thread for such wonderful reading and good recipes. I used to be very good when eldest was little and batch cook and freeze most of it and I used to make a lot of her clothes but over the years have got lazy but this thread has got me all inspired again.0 -
Hi all! Just thought I'd share my day - not used to being at home in the week, I am usually saving people money on elec & gas! Well Mr Homebase and Messers M&S anyway..
Today I have "customised" a baking sheet, yep, "pimp up your tray" has hit the uk!! Okay, I bought a new Anthony Worral Thompson sheet in Mossers at a bargain price, got it home, chucked bread roll dough in the BM, knocked back, shaped' proved (proudly, on new tray) and found the tray wouldn't fit in the oven
Ten minutes later & a hammer sorted that one out! (Well, as I had used the tray I figured I couldn't take it back to the store...) :rotfl: Quite therapeutic I found
Made individual bakewell tarts ( I am freezing stuff like crazy to help with pack ups next week) from Dee's recipe, thanks hon!!
And also cooked a loaf in the BM, DD2 wanted that and not bakewell for pudding. She ate the crusts first, with shop bought she leaves them. Sheesh! Kids eh? :rolleyes:0 -
D&DD thanks for the recipie - I have lots of left over turkey that I will use up in this. Just one quick question when you use the paste in the curry do you add any liquid to it to make the curry sauce eg cocount milk, water etc or do you just use the paste and the chicken/Turkey??
Have decided to do an inventory of my freezers (both are crammed full now after Xmas and new year left overs lol) and also my cupboards and then menu plan for January to use some stuff up and also to minimise expense.
Have some cakes and biscuits to use up as well but will be canny with those as have a few excess lb's to lose and then I will start home baking in bulk - my little one will love the rainbow cakes lol.
Yes Maisie add enough coconut milk to your personal taste (sorry most of my recipes are "throw a glug of that in or chuck in a bit of that")
I'm being bumped off again ... OH has been hogging the laptop watching a flippin' Ebay auction
DS3 is back at school tomorrow BUT if it snows I'm keeping him home so he can enjoy itI LOOOOOVE snow :j

I have been so good today - hehehe. I have spent absolutely no money in the last 2 days (a miracle in our house lol) - well yesterday everything was shut but today would normally go out and buy loads of unnecessary stuff but refrained and stayed home.
I boiled down some left over roast beef yesterday - and used the stock to make tomato and mozzarella soup (from a packet but the stock gave it a richer flavour).
Today I boiled down the chicken carcasses from the 2 chickens we had for lunch yesterday (the chickens they sell in german shops are tiny compared to a normal one you could buy from Mr T's), strained it, added the little bits of chicken meat that were still on the bones (the good stuff only lol) and then added all of my leftover veggies from the fridge that looked like they were almost at the end of their lives! Hopefully the soup will be rather tasty tomorrow - I still have to blitz it with the hand blender as youngest DD will not eat lumpy soup lol.
And to top that off have written a stack of letters to try and reclaim mis-sold payment protection on loans. Hubby is a soldier so is paid if he is off sick and well I'm not covered cos I stay at home so we dont need the PPI and we can get it for 5 quid a month if we want it and that covers everything including the car payments so keep[ your fingers crossed!
Wil be back a wee bit later as am haveing a bit of a clear out - have managed to get rid of a wardrobe we were given when I was expecting the little one this time 4 years ago. My next door neighbour wanted to buy one for her little boy who is 3 months old and I went round earlier and am giveing it to her - didnt cost me anything so really wouldnt feel right taking money off her - but its giving me some free space in oldest DD's bedroom!
Thanks for the ideas on melons - am going to cube it and bung it in the freezer till I can decide what I want to do with it - after all "waste not want not!"

Hi jcr16, yes I did use a muffin tin - had to get a bit creative with the pastry cutter though! The largest I had fitted an ordinary bun tin, but looked a bit "mean" in the muffin tins so I used an old babycham glass which turned out perfectly! Probably not the best use for the glass, but gives me a reason to keep it in the kitchen cupboard. (It's in the glass fronted cupboard and looks nice.) :rolleyes:0
